David Bowie's Last performance 2006

Published on Nov 30, 2013
Davids last live performance at the liverocks concert in 2006. This is him sick after a heart attack the previous year. You can clearly see he is bruised and weathered with an IV bandage on his hand and wearing slippers.

Grammys 2016: Lady Gaga’s David Bowie tribute was too busy to do him justice
Updated by Alex Abad-Santos on February 15, 2016, 11:01 p.m. ET

The nicest thing I can say about Lady Gaga's Grammys tribute to David Bowie is that I fully believe Gaga believes it was a tribute. She sang David Bowie songs. She dressed in David Bowie costumes. She sounded really good.

But still, the tribute felt a little messy and chaotic.

I have to agree. However, in the back of my mind I cannot help but think that Bowie would have approved. He liked going totally sideways =p

Placebo's Brian Molko writes emotional tribute to David Bowie
Tuesday 12th January 2016 by Andrew Trendell Staff

They worked together on 'Without You I'm Nothing'

The loving tributes to David Bowie continue to flood in, with friend and collaborator Brian Molko of Placebo writing a long, heartfelt message to the Thin White Duke. Read it in full below.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Bowie had died after losing his 18-month battle with cancer, just days after he turned 69 and released his brilliant new album, Blackstar.

Quote:
“Dearest David

Wherever you are now, I miss you. Not only do I miss you but my heart is broken. You were my idol, then you became my mentor and my friend.

I learnt so much from you, just by being in your presence, the conversations we had and, of course, watching you perform. You always had time for me. My band and I were tiny when we first met. Nonetheless , you took us under your wing. You believed in us and gifted us with so many fantastic opportunities.

Without you, your tutelage and your wisdom, I don’t think I would be where I am today, as an artist but also as a person. For that I will be eternally grateful.

Float around the ether, David. Bounce gracefully off planets light-years away as you become one with the Universe, as you dive into the Great Unknown.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Iman, Lexi and Duncan, whose hearts I know are far more broken than mine. As for me, I will treasure every memory of every moment we spent together.

Dear David, beautiful man and force of nature, you are immortal. You live beyond the veil of the big sleep.

Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo.

Namaste"

"Brian Molko"

When I Met You

When I Met You
David Bowie
Album Lazarus (Original Cast Recording)

You knew just everything
But nothing at all
Now the moon is dark
Feels like pain again
You could feel my breath
You opened my eyes
For I could not see
When I met you

When I met you (You're feeling depressed)
I could not speak (You're drowning in pain)
You opened my mouth (You're walking in midst)
You opened my heart (You're leaving again)
My spirit shows (She tore you down)
The marks and stains (Happens all the same)
Could not exist (You were afraid)
When I met you
Now it's all the same
It's all the same
The sun is gone
It's all the same
But when I met you
When I met you
When I met you
When I met you

When I met you
You were afraid (When I met you)
She stole your heart (When I met you)
You don't understand (When I met you)
Should be ashamed (When I met you)
You should have walked (I was the walking dead)
She tore you down (I was kicked in the head)
She tore you down

The edge had become the center of my world
The seams of my life
The streams of daydream
Like the wounds of a friend
And not the kiss of a foe
The peck of a blackened eye
A Lie for the crown

When I met you
I could not speak
How I met you
Then I met you
My spirit grows (You're feeling again)
My kind of truth (You're drowning in pain)
Could not exist (You are afraid)
When I met you
Now It's all the same
It's all the same
The sun is gone
It's all the same
But when I met you
When I met you
When I met you
When I met you

When I met you (You were afraid)
When I met you (She stole your heart)
I was the walking dead (She tore you down)
I was kicked in the head (She tore you down)
It was such a time (When I met you)
It was such a time (When I met you)
I was crushed inside (When I met you)
I was torn inside
When I met you
When I met you
I was too insane
Could not trust a thing
I was off my head
I was filled with truth
It was not God's truth
Before I met you

Marianne Faithfull, David Bowie - I Got You Babe
Jan 11, 2016
Capital of Sorrow

Quote:
The duet was recorded for American television on October 19, 1973 at the Marquee Club in London. The producer Burt Sugarman had approached Bowie about appearing on his late-night NBC program The Midnight Special. According to the Ziggy Stardust Companion, Bowie agreed to appear on the show after being granted complete artistic control for a one-hour special. He put together a cabaret-style show featuring himself and a couple of acts from the 1960s, performing on a futuristic set. Bowie called it “The 1980 Floor Show,” as a pun on the title of his song “1984,” which was played during the opening title sequence. Filming took place over two days. The audiences were composed of Bowie fan club members and other special guests. Due to the cramped quarters in the nightclub, the camera crew wasn’t able to cover more than two angles at any moment, so Bowie and the others had to play the same songs over and over.

On the day “I Got You Babe” was filmed, the musicians and crew worked for ten straight hours.

Faithfull was invited to appear on the show as one of the back-up acts, along with The Troggs and the “flamenco rock” group Carmen. At the very end of the evening, Bowie and Faithfull appeared onstage together–he in a red PVC outfit with black ostrich plumes (he called it his “Angel of Death” costume) and she in a nun’s habit that was, by more than one account, open in the back. “This isn’t anything serious,” Bowie reportedly told the audience. “It’s just a bit of fun. We’ve hardly even rehearsed it.”
