Split Enz was NZ first big BIG overseas band success.. and somewhat limited.. they moved to Aust (as all NZ groups have to) and then to London. Did gain some international fame, but failed to match internationally their sucess in NZ and Australia. Originally a group of guys.. in and around Auckland University scene when I was there.
Entered a naff TV talent show.. not sure if they won? Cant remember. Lead singer was Tim Finn... the group was later joined by his younger brother Neil... as soon as he was old enough? Neil wrote (and sings) this song.. and others of their hits. Neil later went the extra step to full international aclaim as driving force of "Crowded House". Neil still pops up as solo artist here and overseas.. his NZ home is near where I live... paisano!
