I am 68. It seems to me that "yonguns today" are unaware of even recent history; even their parents and grandparents history, their own family history, political and social events of the recent past. Even as a child I was aware of debate around the EEC. I gained more detailed understanding as things developed and I got older. I am in awe of the advances in communication and the access to information we all have, and yet it seems to me that people have become more ignorant. Funny that?

Brexit is NOT about the economy... it's about Sovereignty, stupid
But the economy will thrive as well :)

UK Parliamentary break away group "The Independent Group" (TIG) are renaming themselves "Change UK" (CUK) :lol

London (CNN) Britain is getting a new political party opposed to Brexit.
The Independent Group (TIG), a cross-party bloc of anti-Brexit MPs, has formally applied to be registered as a fully-fledged political party. They will be called Change UK and have appointed the former Conservative MP Heidi Allen as interim leader.

UK Parliament Continue the farce today.....

On Monday, MPs will take part in a second round of votes on alternative Brexit proposals. They all FAILED to pass last week... but hey.... Voting is like road bypasses... ya gotta have voting :roll

Voting is expected to begin at 20:00 BST. Here's a breakdown of the options listed on the order paper.
-------------------------------------------------
Motion A: Unilateral right of exit from backstop
An amendment to Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement. That would allow the UK to exit the so-called Irish backstop whenever it wants, without the EU's permission.
(NOTE: The EU have already said NO to amending May's deal... so it's daft to pass this) :doh
-------------------------------------------------
Motion B: No deal in the absence of a withdrawal agreement
Brexit with no deal on 12th April. (my fave) :roll
-------------------------------------------------
Motion C: Customs union
-------------------------------------------------
Motion D: 'Common Market 2.0'
-------------------------------------------------
Motion E: Confirmatory public vote
A second referendum :wall
-------------------------------------------------
Motion F: Public vote to prevent no deal
A second referendum :wall
-------------------------------------------------
Motion G: Parliamentary supremacy
-------------------------------------------------
Motion H: EFTA and EEA

EU expresses doubts on alternatives to May’s Brexit plans
Choice boils down to accepting PM’s exit agreement or a long delay, says Brussels

Jim Brunsden in Brussels 11 hours ago

EU officials have expressed concern that British MPs’ alternative plans for Brexit are detached from reality and fail to acknowledge the basic choice between approving Theresa May’s exit treaty and remaining in the union for much longer.

MPs are set to vote on rival options to Mrs May’s overall deal on Monday, including softer variants on Brexit and a “confirmatory referendum”. But there is concern in EU capitals that the leading options do not take account of Britain’s position less than two weeks before the UK’s scheduled April 12 exit from the bloc.

In particular, EU officials insist that the exit treaty negotiated with the UK prime minister is non-negotiable and that the rival plans would not excuse Britain from taking part in elections to the European Parliament scheduled for May 23-26.

“The discussion in London seems as always a bit detached from how the reality looks in EU27 capitals,” one official said. “The withdrawal agreement is closed. Time is running out.”

The official added that if Britain wanted to pursue Brexit — rather than revoke the Article 50 exit process altogether — there were only two options: “Either the UK asks for an extension beyond May 22, in which case it must participate in the European Parliament elections, or it must adopt the withdrawal agreement.”

I TOLD YOU SO!! :cool

It is getting (got) to the stage that Brtain's best (only) hope is that the EU will simply tell them to piss off. (on 12th April)

It seems Bercow is already putting a thumb on the scale?

Not putting all motions up... very selective

John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, selected motions G, E, D, and C. Earlier in the day, the Labour Party voiced its support for the motion D, so-called Common Market 2.0.
Motion G calls for government to revoke Article 50 as a last resort to prevent no-deal Brexit.
Motion E calls for confirmatory referendum to approve Brexit deal.
Motion D calls on government to seek an enhanced 'Norway-style' exit deal known as Common Market 2.0 deal.
Motion C calls on government to seek to negotiate a permanent customs union with the EU.

The voting paper...

Image Image

One hardline Brexiteer MP, David Davies, scribbled a message on his ballot asking why a no-deal break wasn't included. The Commons Speaker, John Bercow, ruled earlier that voting on a no-deal split was moot, given that it is the current legal default.

It is NOT surprising that REMOANERS are dead set against "hard Brexit" yet willing to embrace all these "options"

What they all have in common is that they assure UK remains in aspects of the EU... in fact they are all worse than remaining in the EU in total because UK have all the restrictions and yet no say in future rules.

The Options are in effect all REMAIN options.

I dont see how a General election will help?
There may well be some backlash by voters against individual MPs but in general the same 650 MPs will be returned
Sure the deckchairs on the Titanic will be shuffled around... but it will be the exact same pack of ignorant buffoons pushing their own agendas

NOTHING got a majority again... :lol

Here are the results of Monday's votes:
Motion C, Customs Union -- Lost by 276 votes to 273
    Motion D, Common Market 2.0 -- Lost by 282 votes to 261
Motion E, Confirmatory public vote -- Lost by 292 votes to 280
Motion G, Parliamentary Supremacy -- Lost by 292 votes to 191

And STILL some dope stands up and says "No Deal" is not an option?? :doh

An extension looks likely... but WTF is the point of that? No matter how long they delay the position will be the same?

And..... having done this twice and failed... there is MORE on Wednesday!! :doh

LETS HOPE sanity inserts itself in Europe.. and they REFUSE an extension.

With Parliament pushing to find agreement on MPs second favourite option... They may be advised to consider....

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet - Democracy

Hard to understand WHY Parliament are voting on various "Remain" options when REMAIN lost the Referendum?
Beware.....Parliament voting on "Remain options" (such as remain in the Customs Union)... they might wind up with "YELLOW"... an option that NOBODY have as first choice.

I hear that 200 MP's (maybe more by now) have written to May calling for no-deal Brexit....

Conservative Brexiteer Andrew Bridgen: ‘I wouldn’t sign up to May’s deal if EU were paying us £39bn for the privilege’
1 Apr 2019

Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen was one of the signatories of a letter to Theresa May calling for her to back a no-deal Brexit.

The next move in the farce.... 5 hour Cabinet Meeting Today.

Cabinet to gather for 5-hour meeting to consider way out of parliamentary gridlock

On Tuesday (9:00 am)Theresa May’s badly divided cabinet gathers for what is likely to be a brutal and potentially decisive meeting to discuss what route, if any, can be charted out of the Brexit morass.

Possible Options....
Vote on The prime minister’s Brexit deal (for a forth time) and hope like hell it passes :doh

Brexit Plan B - Soft Brexit? NOTHING has been agreed on and they are all variations on Remain. :roll (and unlikely to be approved by EU)

General election - I can't see that helping?

No-deal Brexit - Makes sense to me but being denied as an option.

Second Brexit referendum - Democracy Dead. What is the point of another referendum when the last one was ignored?

An extension of Article 50 AND an MEP election... indefinite delay will get them no further.

Lets hope that the EU gets fed up with all this.... and triggers no deal.

Apparently..... May went against the Cabinet... even after the 7 hour meeting.....

Theresa May ignores Cabinet support for no-deal Brexit as she turns to Jeremy Corbyn for help
Theresa May ignored the will of her Cabinet by ruling out a no deal Brexit and choosing to extend Article 50 as she asked Jeremy Corbyn to help her find a compromise.
