Revealed: Accounts worker, 35, who was dragged off roof of Tube train by furious commuters - as even his fellow Extinction Rebellion comrades attack stunt for 'jeopardising the movement'

  • James Mee, 35, from Bristol, was filmed being dragged off train at Canning Town
  • Buddhist Mark Ovland scaled a train at Canning Town and unfurled an XR banner
  • Grandfather-of-four Phil Kingston, 83, also yesterday glued himself to DLR train
  • Green Christian Ruth Jarman, 56, was also pictured protesting along the network

An Extinction Rebellion protester dragged off a London Underground train by angry commuters has been revealed to be an accounts administrator from Bristol - as his environmental comrades condemn the stunt for 'jeopardising the movement'.

James Mee, 35, was part of a gang including a Buddhist teacher, a grandfather and a vicar who brought chaos to three stations east of the capital: Canning Town, Shadwell and Stratford.

He and Mark Ovland, 36, were dragged from the top of a Tube train at Canning Town before being roughed up by enraged commuters.

Their actions have led to Extinction Rebellion cancelling its planned Gatwick 'shutdown' as members high up within the organisation condemn the splinter group for halting trains despite a group-wide poll deciding against the stunt.

GERARD BATTEN: We Must Defeat The NEC In This Power Struggle, or UKIP Will Die
by Gerard Batten · 9:52 am, October 17, 2019

Image

UKIP is now engaged in a desperate internal struggle for the survival of the Party. On one side is the National Executive Committee, and on the other the Leader Richard Braine and the Party membership. This power struggle has now come to climatic head and must be resolved immediately.

Let me say without equivocation that the problem lies squarely with the NEC. Their behaviour is either caused by phenomenal incompetence or through a deliberate intent to collapse the Party; either way the outcome will be the same unless the members remove them forthwith in the imminent NEC elections.

And therein lies the problem. The NEC is hell bent on gerrymandering the election to ensure that only candidates acceptable to them are allowed to stand. Today an electronic communication was sent by Neil Hamilton to members saying that an earlier email from Jeff Armstrong, the Returning Officer for the NEC elections, was a “forgery”. This assertion is a defamation on Jeff and is actionable in law.

I am going to me MOST disapointed in the so called "Spartans" if they vote for May's Deal 4.0

'It's painful to choose': ERG locked in internal talks over Brexit deal

‘Spartans’ had originally indicated they would follow DUP, but now several hardliners suggest they will back Johnson

The 28 Eurosceptic Tory hardliners have not said “no” to Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal, giving No 10 hope that they will swing behind the prime minister.

The group, known as “the Spartans”, had indicated they would take a lead from the Democratic Unionist party, which categorically said it would vote against Johnson’s deal. But several of the Tory hardliners – from Peter Bone to Andrew Bridgen – suggested they were likely to vote for the agreement.

It was not unanimous, however, as the European Research Group’s steering committee, made up of senior MPs and former ministers, met on Thursday for a “deep discussion” about the new agreement, which they went through line by line.

Saturday Parliament...

Kick off 9:30 am..... VOTE likely at 3:30 pm? (Maybe later?)

To pass... Treaty (deal) needs 320 Votes........

I STILL hope the deal is not passed..... as far as I can tell that would mean "no deal" would be certain!!

For many reasons... for example
The "deal" is only the start... there will be a YEAR "transition period" negotiating a "free trade deal"... and that could be extended.
The 39 billion has to be paid ... which is NUTS!!

----------------
PM faces Brexit extension even if his deal is passed
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -is-passed

And as if it wasn't already silly enough we have.... "The Letwing ammendment" :doh

The Conservative and Labour MPs will table an amendment allowing parliament to withhold its approval until the legislation to implement Brexit has passed.

And looks like Letwin has support... so we get that and NOT an absolute aproval of the deal??
I do not see how that works.. since it would Leave the Benn Dover Surrender triggered? And Boris having to seek an extension. :wall

Image

I assume there will be a record of how MPs vote?

I hear people suggesting that EU may REFUSE to grant an extension

Ummmm... DREAM ON!! :roll

No matter what EU people say.. the are NOT going to force UK out. That would mean losing 39 Billion ... not to mention the further 1 billion every month that they keep this scam going. And....... apparently any deal retains UK commitment to European Investment Bank... said to involve a further 30 - 40 billion.. and likely more since the bank is liable to financial problems in all 28 EU countries

Live updates - Guardian

Earlier....
The Speaker, John Bercow, has announced that MPs will vote on Oliver Letwin and Hilary Benn’s amendment, which would see the House of Commons withhold support from Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal until the relevant legislation has been passed
If it passes, it would force him to request an extension to Brexit by 11pm tonight, the deadline set in the Benn Act.
------------------------------
Government sources are suggesting this morning that if Letwin passes – as appears highly likely – the whips will simply order Conservative MPs to go home, effectively boycotting the vote on the motion as amended. They are not making clear whether they will request an Article 50 extension.

Boris presented his "deal"

Corbyn responding with a a load of old toot....
He spits out the word "Trump" as a negative.... "Trade deal with Trump" Bad :doh
Corbyn: “Trump trade deal … exposing our families to chlorinated chicken”

That SNP tosser Ian Blackford, banging on about Scotland not getting same as Ireland.. all he wants is Scottish independance.

DimLib leader, Jo Swinson... anti deal of course. Whenever she gets up, Bercow does a warning about not heckling, interrupting her.. and yet people are not especially noisy?.. Bercow virtue signaling as a "white knight"... vey misogynistic :)

Having watched for 2 and half hours...

It seems to me that it is desirable that the Letwin amendment is voted down (or withdrawn)... otherwise Boris will have to seek an extension today (unless there is a trick to avoid that)... and the "Deal" is not fully accepted. Not voting for letwin means the Benn Dover surrender Act is completed... and done with once a deal is accepted. Also there is a glimmer of hope that the legislation needed for the deal.. will FAIL to be completed by 31st.. and UK will "crash out"

Like many people... I am fed up... accept the deal... wiggle out if possible and you are brave enough... else dribble on with negotiating a free trade deal for 2 years. As mentioned... even if that goes well.. it will be more than 6 years after the Referendum before UK is even a little bit out of EU.

this deal is CRAP... For a start there are the BILLIONS UK have to pay EU... and there is DELAY until at least December 2020.... transition period to negotiate (free) trade deal between UK and EU.. and I assume no other trade deals allowed to be negotiated (with USA for instance)

These jerks (labour via Keir Starmer).. are still banging on about "crashing out with no deal"..... fear that a free trade deal will not be negotiated in such a short time (over a year).. and there is no "backstop" so it will be WTO rules after December 2020.....

Keir Starmer: "This is a trapdoor to no deal." :roll

Letwin is on his feet... moving his sneaky Amendment

He wants an extension... regardless of deal passing or not

SNP tosser...an Blackford.... moaning about Scotland independence (as always).... I WISH they could divide Scotland and give Independence to the daft half... with a BIG WALL to keep them out of UK... and in the EU where they want to be.

Finally at 2:30 Bercow puts motion that amendment be accepted...

MPs are now voting on the Letwin amendment (amendment A).....

And its a Division... with all the traipsing out...

------------------
The government loses. :doh

322 to 306.

This withholds approval of the prime minister’s deal until the legislation to enact it – the EU withdrawal bill – is passed.

--------------
Boris says he WILL NOT ASK FOR EXTENSION... and neither does the law compel it

The legislation will be introduced next week, says Johnson.

Corbyn says Boris MUST write letter....ask EU for extension

Parliament whiners not happy....

As they go on debating whether the PM can be forced to write the letter to the EU requesting an extension, Number 10 is keeping mum.

Jacob Rees Mogg... says they will debate a bill (part) of EU Withdrawal act.. on Monday.... not expanding or giving an explanation.

Members not happy... asking what is happening with Queen's speech debate and vote.

Bercow is humming and ha-ing... says he will "take advice"... :lol

What does the Letwin amendment mean for Brexit timetable?

The Benn act set a deadline of 11pm on Saturday for Johnson to win parliamentary approval of his Brexit deal, or request a delay. He is now legally obliged to do that but has not given any details on how and is insisting he is not legally compelled to ask for an extension.

Instead, the Conservative party said in a statement: “Parliament has voted to delay Brexit again. The prime minister will not ask for a delay – he will tell EU leaders there should be no more delays and we should get Brexit done on 31 October with our new deal so the country can move on.”

The Letwin amendment was a way of trying to close a loophole, with some of its supporters fearing MPs could support the deal on Saturday, meeting the requirements of the Benn act, but then the legislation implementing Brexit could fall, allowing a no-deal exit on 31 October.

When will the next votes be held?
The next opportunity is Monday, when the leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg, said the government would seek to hold another meaningful vote on Johnson’s deal. In a point of order, the MP Chris Bryant said it was not good practice for the government to repetitiously hold debates on the exact same subject.

Monday’s emergency business statement and motion are likely to disrupt the debate and votes already scheduled on the Queen’s speech. The Commons Speaker, John Bercow, said he would have to consider whether to allow the government’s plans.

Boris Johnson news - live:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 62581.html

Rumours akimbo.. who knows what is true.

I have heard Boris will send letter (has sent letter)... maybe not signed?... but as he says he will not "negotiate an extension".. so EU will have no idea of terms, reasons etc.. so should NOT grant it??

Rumour Bercow will sign letter make request. I think that rumour may have come from a reply I heard from Bercow... he was talking hypothetically IF there was instruction to do that by Parliament or Court.. and as yet there are no moves to make that happen

Also rumour...Sky and ITV both report that Emmanuel Macron has ruled an extension out.

BREAKING.....
Boris Johnson sends EU unsigned letter seeking Brexit delay along with another advising against it

Prime minister's gambit is denounced as 'pathetic' by MP who vows to bring legal action within days

Andrew Woodcock

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sent two letters to European Council president Donald Tusk – an unsigned message relaying parliament’s request for an extension to Brexit and a letter from him setting out why he does not believe delay would be in the interests of the EU or UK.

Downing Street said it believes the move fulfils the requirements of the Benn Act, which required the prime minister to seek an extension beyond his 31 October deadline if he was unable to secure parliamentary approval of his Brexit deal by the end of Saturday.

But Scottish National Party MP Joanna Cherry dismissed the PM’s gambit as “pathetic” and said she would be pushing for legal action in Scotland’s highest court on Monday.

Responding to the news of the two letters, Ms Cherry – who led a successful legal action against Mr Johnson’s five-week suspension of parliament – said: ”This is pathetic. Boris Johnson promised the Scottish court he would comply with the Benn Act and not seek to frustrate it.

“Looks like he’s breaking both promises. Fortunately, no need to raise new proceedings – our existing case is back in court on Monday.”

Boris Johnson sends the EU THREE letters: One (not signed by him) asks to delay Brexit beyond Oct 31, the second makes clear the first is from Parliament - not the Government, and the third urges Brussels NOT to grant an extension

  • The first was letter demanded by Benn Act, which asks the EU to delay Brexit
  • Second was covering letter saying the first was from Parliament not Government
  • Third was from PM disavowing first letter making clear he does not want delay
  • In it, the Prime Minister said any further hold-up would be 'deeply corrosive'

Late tonight – just before the midnight deadline stipulated by 'wrecker' MPs – a total of three letters were due to be sent from the Government to Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council

The second (pictured) was a covering letter, written by Sir Tim Barrow, the UK's Permanent Representative in Brussels, which made clear that the first letter was from Parliament, not the Government

Seems Boris wrote other letters as well....

Brexit news latest: Boris Johnson sends 'unsigned' letter to EU requesting extension to Brexit deadline
Rebecca Speare-Cole and Tim Baker

[......]
The PM rang European leaders, including Mr Tusk, declaring that the letter "is Parliament's letter, not my letter".

The development came as the PM wrote to all Tory MPs and peers insisting that he will tell Brussels a further Brexit delay is "not a solution" to the situation.

In a letter to members of the Tory parliamentary party, the PM said: "I will tell the European Union what I have told the British public for my 88 days as Prime Minister: further delay is not a solution."

He added: "It is quite possible that our friends in the European Union will reject Parliament's request for a further delay (or not take a decision quickly)."

Spoiler:

The PM also discussed the situation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.

I see Boris sent 2 (3) letters as predicted. :)

The WORRY I have is if this deal (treaty) does happen on 31st then that is it.. no way to get out of it regardless of who wins the next election.
I have not seen mention of a clause (like Article 50) that enables ending this thing at all. The "transition period" could even mean extension for many years unable to agree to a (free) trade deal with EU
