The chaps at The Duran were commenting that Boris could ignore this crap... even after passing House of Lords... simply by not sending it to Queen for "Royal Assent", but........

Bercow rules that Queen’s consent is not required for bill blocking no-deal Brexit
By Charlie Proctor, 4th September 2019

The Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, has ruled that The Queen’s consent is not required for the bill being debated in the House of Commons on Wednesday which seeks to block a no-deal Brexit.

This partly scuppers the government’s hopes to block the bill from coming into law should it be passed.

The Queen’s consent and Royal Assent are different things and shouldn’t be confused.

Queen’s Consent is required before Parliament is able to debate a bill affecting royal prerogatives.

Lewis Goodall from Sky News explained: “The Queen’s Consent is more esoteric and is required when it’s deemed legislation affects the royal prerogative.

“Royal Assent is royal authorisation given at end of legislative process.”

The Queen’s Consent is occasionally denied, but Royal Assent can never be denied.

The guys at Duran seem to disagree. It would cause a shitstorm... but Opinion is that this dsaft law is "unconstitutional" and so Boris could justify not seeking Royal Assent..... IMO Boris should do it... this No Brexit sketch has got too silly

House of Lords Filibuster...

They have tabled 86 amendments to the bill, a move that the opposition branded a filibuster.

But... after Voting in the 17th filibuster, according to Lord Adonis, they already caved

It will be back to Boris.... to have the courage to NOT send it for Royal Assent :roll

IMHO this sketch is now well past being TOO SILLY!!
As much as I want BREXIT NOW.. no deals... no elections...no more "peoples vote" etc. It is anathema to see ANOTHER extension of a50 and a delay to next year and beyond. I see no alternative but to have an election... NOW!! (on 25th October).
Having said that... with elections, the people get the Government they deserve. If the British people fuck this up, then so be it. :cool

There could be some hope that the Bill will get through Lords (and Royal assent) by Friday and that Corbyn will let the election go ahead???
But I fear that Boris will stick with the narrative that he can "get a deal" (which will be May's deal with backstop rejigged) :doh

I dont see Farage making a pact with him.. and so I expect the Conservative vote to be split... likely a Corbyn government....
Like I say.. The people get the government they deserve. :roll

Brexit: Decision to suspend Parliament ruled lawful by High Court

A legal challenge over Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament has been rejected in the High Court.

The case was brought by businesswoman Gina Miller, who argued the move was "an unlawful abuse of power".

Rejecting Ms Miller's case, Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett said she could immediately appeal because of the important points of law at stake.

The appeal is expected to be heard at the Supreme Court on 17 September.

Ms Miller said she was "very disappointed with the judgment".

She added: "We feel it is absolutely vital that Parliament should be sitting. We are therefore pleased that the judges have given us permission to appeal to the Supreme Court, which we will be doing, and they feel that our case has the merit to be handed up."

A similar legal challenge was rejected at Edinburgh's Court of Session earlier this week.

Following an appeal, judges at Scotland's highest civil court said on Friday a decision would not be made before Wednesday.

DONT PANIC!....
I remember life BEFORE the EU (and the EEC). Britain THRIVED even though the 6 EEC countries OPENLY worked to shaft Britain!! That is why they set the damned thing up.

As things stand....

There really HAS been a coup. The legitimate government of UK... the Queen's Prime minister and the cabinet.. has lost control of Parliament. We have the opposition proposing (and passing) legislation. THAT IMO is "unconstitutional" just on the face of it... but it gets worse. This legislation BINDS the legitimate Government to action (PM supposed to not only request., but must obtain an extension to A50)... but it gets worse.... the legislation GIVES sovereignty explicitly to a foreign power (EU) to set even longer delay, perhaps years.... but it gets worse... The EU have a call on continued funding by UK (taxpayers) (1 billion per month)... for ever if they chose...And I guess the EU could make that 2 billion, or 3 billion or more. They do need money to start an Army, ya know. Talk about "Taxation without representation".
At the LEAST this crap has to be put to the people (election), but the Coup leaders are even blocking that. You only have MONDAY vote left. This demo Saturday is YOUR LAST CHANCE BEFORE MONDAY.

Bercow must go...

Image

But that requires a vote of Parliament... and that wont happen with the current crop. Maybe after the next election? Apparently, by convention, main parties do not stand candidates against the Speaker in his own electorate. Glad to see Tories are breaking with that tradition in next election..

"Breaching convention, the (Tory) party plans to oppose Mr Bercow in his Buckingham constituency at the next election."

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-49624334

--------------------
THE SUN SAYS

BIASED John Bercow has tirelessly worked with Remoaners to block Brexit.

The smug Speaker is now considering standing as an Independent MP at the next General Election if he is dropped by the Tories.

That would be the first independent thing he’s ever done in his life.

Last Election result - Buckingham 2017

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckingha ... nstituency)#Elections_in_the_2010s

----------------
ETA.... Bercow has quit..

Said he would go today if election called... but now it will be 31st October.
That might make sense if there is Brexit extension... but if Brexit DOES HAPPEN there will be mayhem after 31st already and end of Bercow will only add to that?

Johnson prepares plan to legally stop Brexit extension - The Telegraph
September 9, 2019 / 9:14 AM / Updated 2 hours ago

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has prepared plans to legally stop any Brexit extension, the Daily Telegraph bit.ly/2ZP87Yc reported late on Sunday.

Johnson’s advisers held a meeting on Sunday to counter the strategy to prevent the British parliament’s attempts at enforcing a three-month Brexit extension if no new deal is agreed, the newspaper reported.

A plan under consideration would see Johnson sending a letter alongside the request to extend Article 50 setting out that the government does not want any delay after Oct. 31, according to the report.
