Good gosh almighty, breaking news. THIS is a Teeny-Tiny Ugly. :roll
So this guy knew Gates & Manafort back in 2012 when his lawfirm worked with them. He lied to FBI about something(?) and this is related to Muh Russia, how?

Ex-Skadden Lawyer Is Sentenced to 30 Days in Russia Inquiry
By Sharon LaFraniere | NY Times | April 3, 2018

WASHINGTON — A former lawyer for a powerful international corporate law firm was sentenced on Tuesday to 30 days in prison for lying to investigators in the special counsel inquiry about his communications with a Trump campaign aide and a Ukrainian businessman with ties to Russian intelligence.

The former lawyer, Alex van der Zwaan, who is the son-in-law of a Russian billionaire, was the first person to be sentenced in the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. He was also fined $20,000.

Mr. van der Zwaan had faced up to five years in prison for deceiving federal investigators who were examining the links between Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s former campaign chairman; Rick Gates, Mr. Trump’s former deputy campaign manager; and the Ukrainian businessman, who was not named in court records. People familiar with the matter have identified him as Konstantin V. Kilimnik, who for years was Mr. Manafort’s right-hand man in Ukraine.

Mr. van der Zwaan, a 33-year-old Dutch citizen, knew all three men because his law firm, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, had assigned him to work with them in 2012 on a report used to defend Viktor F. Yanukovych, the pro-Russia former president of Ukraine, from international criticism over the prosecution and incarceration of a political rival.

Rosenstein memo on Mueller gives OK to probe Manafort, Russia collusion
Fox News

Special Counsel Robert Mueller was given the green light to investigate President Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and his work with the Ukrainian government as well as claims Manafort colluded with the Kremlin, according to court documents filed late Monday.

A newly disclosed Aug. 2, 2017, memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein shows that Mueller was authorized to go after Manafort on multiple fronts in an investigation that has resulted in criminal charges against 19 people and three Russian companies.

The August memo was disclosed in a court filing by Mueller’s team of prosecutors in response to Manafort’s lawyers, who asked a judge to dismiss the charges against him. Manafort is arguing that Mueller, who was assigned to investigate potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign, overstepped his authority by investigating allegations that took place before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

But in their new filing, prosecutors revealed that Rosenstein — who appointed Mueller — wrote a memo last August that outlined the scope of Mueller's appointment.

The memo, which had not previously been released publicly and remains redacted in parts, said that Mueller was empowered to investigate allegations that Manafort "committed a crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials" to interfere with the presidential election.

None of the charges Manafort currently faces allege coordination with the Kremlin, and Manafort's attorneys had used that point to argue that Mueller had exceeded his authority by bringing charges against him, accusing Manafort of various financial crimes and acting as an unregistered foreign agent on behalf of Ukrainian interests.

It seems to me that Mueller (his lawyers) are presenting this evidence to show that he was "authorized" to extend the scope of his witch hunt beyond "Muh Russia"... because.... Rosenstein!....

Rosenstein authorized it :neener

Mueller MISSES THE POINT!! :doh

Rosenstein is NOT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.. he can not ACT as AG other than in matters that Daft Jeff recused himself from.

Ukraine/money stuff YEARS ago is NOT "Muh Russia" collusion/2016 election stuff. :roll
Sleepy Jeff SHOULD assert his authority over such matters.. it should be BEYOND Rosenstein's pay-grade

‘Rosenstein and Mueller Colluded to Break the Law’ Attorney Gregg Jarrett Calls on “Unethical Mueller” to Resign After Rosenstein Memo Surfaces
Cristina Laila by Cristina Laila April 3, 2018

An August 2017 memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to Special Counsel Robert Mueller surfaced late Monday evening in a court filing. Mueller used the memo to defend his scope of the investigation against a recent motion Manafort filed to dismiss his case.

In the heavily redacted memo, Robert Mueller admits Rosenstein’s order appointing him to Special Counsel was intentionally vague.

“This violates the special counsel law that requires a specific statement of facts to be investigated,” says Attorney Gregg Jarrett.

I don't recall seeing this OIG "Interim report" February 7 2018?...

Anyway... here it is

THE CLINTON EMAIL SCANDAL AND THE FBI’S INVESTIGATION OF IT

An Interim Report

February 7 2018

A Majority Staff Report of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs United States Senate Senator Ron Johnson, Chairman

pdf (25 pages)

What I DO KNOW is that even with all this evidence of Clinton Crime... still no indictments have been announced and there is no sign of any in the near future. Hillary has continued her money grabbing book tour and show no concern.

The Curious Case of The Andrew McCabe Legal Defense Fund
April 4, 2018 jonathan turley

Below is my column in the Hill newspaper on the curious timing of a legal defense fund for Andrew McCabe — started and closed before the release of a report on his conduct. With the sentencing of the first Mueller defendant, Dutch lawyer Alex van der Zwaan, there are obvious questions of why people like Flynn and van der Zwaan should face prison for single false statements while McCabe is accused of lying four times, including twice under oath. Mueller’s office insisted that anyone who lies to investigators deserves to be sentenced and punished, but that standard appears to change be somewhat fluid when a former high-ranking FBI official is implicated. Nevertheless, I can certainly understand McCabe’s interest in a legal defense fund given the ongoing IG investigation and addition of a prosecutor to the team. However, the money was raised before donors could know the full account of the allegations against McCabe. Moreover, McCabe can use this money for any legal needs as he enters private life.

NUNES WARNING: Demands FBI and DOJ Turn Over Un-Redacted Documents
Committee will pursue "all appropriate legal remedies, including seeking civil enforcement" for noncompliance
Sara Carter, April 5, 2018

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) demanded Wednesday that the FBI and DOJ comply with the committee’s subpoena to review documents pertaining to the bureau’s Russia investigation. In particular, the committee wants the un-redacted version of the original investigative document, also known as “Electronic Communication” that launched the FBI counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, according to a letter issued by the Chairman.

Chairman Devin Nunes, R-CA, sent the letter to Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray warning them that their lack of compliance with the committee’s original Aug. 24, 2017 subpoena to turn over all requested documents could result in “the Committee pursuing all appropriate legal remedies, including seeking civil enforcement” in a federal district court. The committee gave the FBI and DOJ until April 11 to turn over all the documentation requested.

The request for the un-redacted version of the originating “electronic communication” is new and it reveals that the committee is looking into the FBI’s initiation of the investigation into alleged collusion between President Trump and Russia in the 2016 presidential election. The document would be a detailed report of the FBI’s reasoning to move forward with the investigation into the Trump campaign after the bureau was informed by Australian authorities of a conversation Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos had with one of their diplomats at a London bar.

FBI agent Peter Strzok was told of possible breach into Clinton's server but didn't follow up, sources say
By Catherine Herridge, Pamela K. Browne, Cyd Upson | Fox News

During the final months of the Clinton email investigation, FBI agent Peter Strzok was advised of an irregularity in the metadata of Hillary Clinton’s server that suggested a possible breach, but there was no significant follow up, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter.

Sources told Fox News that Strzok, who sent anti-Trump text messages that got him removed from the ongoing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, was told about the metadata anomaly in 2016, but Strzok did not support a formal damage assessment.

One source said: “Nothing happened.”

Fox News is told the Justice Department Inspector General, Michael E. Horowitz, is aware of the allegations.

According to intelligence community directive 732, damage assessments are done “in response to unauthorized disclosure or compromise of classified national intelligence.”

Intelligence beyond top secret was identified on the Clinton server. As secretary of state, Clinton chose to use a private, non-secure server for government business.

The FBI had no comment to Fox News’ questions about Strzok, his awareness of the metadata issue, and what actions, if any, he took. There also was no comment from the Inspector General’s office.

What Is the FBI Hiding?
The bureau still won’t comply with an eight-month-old subpoena from Congress.
By Kimberley A. Strassel
April 5, 2018 7:25 p.m. ET

Bit by bit, congressional investigators have wrested important truths from a recalcitrant Federal Bureau of Investigation about its suspect 2016 election dealings. But there’s one secret the G-men jealously guard: how central that Steele dossier was from the start.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes on Wednesday sent another letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray to demand yet again that they comply with an August 2017 subpoena and hand over, among other things, the electronic communication—“EC” in investigative jargon—that officially kicked off the counterintelligence investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion.

Justice to let all members of intelligence panels see Carter Page surveillance application
By Laura Jarrett, CNN
Updated 0115 GMT (0915 HKT) April 7, 2018

(CNN) The Justice Department is allowing all House and Senate intelligence committee members to review the application that it and the FBI used to obtain a surveillance warrant on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, according to a letter obtained by CNN Friday.
Lawmakers will be able to review the application and renewals at a secure location at the Justice Department— something the department calls an "extraordinary accommodation."
The concession comes amid fresh demands this week from House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes to allow all members of the committee to review the materials.

The California Republican also wants to review an unredacted version of the document the FBI used to formally begin its investigation into potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign in Moscow's efforts to influence the 2016 election, an issue not addressed in Friday's letter.
Separately, Justice Department spokesman Ian Prior said the department on Monday will supplement its document production to the House Judiciary Committee by producing another 1,000 pages of materials in response to a subpoena issued by committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte.

The department did not meet a Thursday deadline for a response to the subpoena. Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, is seeking a variety of materials on the probe into Hillary Clinton's handling of email as secretary of state, the Page surveillance warrant and the firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. The FBI recently doubled the staff reviewing the documents for production.

Funny... I do NOT remember any FBI raids on Hillary's lawyers... despite the fact they were very much implicated in the CRIME and the cover-up.

No raid of Hillary IT companies and staff.. despite evidence they intentionally deleted Subpoenaed evidence etc etc.

Robert Mueller reportedly probes Ukrainian businessman’s $150,000 payment for Trump speech
By Chris Sommerfeldt | NY Daily News | April 9, 2018

Special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into a $150,000 donation made to President Trump's namesake foundation by a shadowy Ukrainian steel mogul during the campaign, according to a report.

Victor Pinchuk, a wealthy Ukrainian businessman, made the hefty payment to the Donald J. Trump Foundation in September 2015 in exchange for Trump making a 20-minute video appearance for a conference in Kiev, according to records subpoenaed by Mueller earlier this year.

Mueller is looking into the unusually large donation as part of his wider examination of a flow of foreign money to Trump and various Trump-connected businesses in the lead-up to the 2016 election, three people familiar with the matter told the New York Times.
[...]
Pinchuk is more widely known for his ties to Hillary Clinton and her namesake foundation, which he has donated more than $13 million to since 2006.The conference that he paid Trump to record a speech for focused on developing better ties between Ukraine, the U.S. and the European Union.
