WOW, indicted by a grand jury on three counts! Ouch. Read where Ali Watkins previously worked for Politico and Buzzfeed. :roll

I just looked at tweet where I first heard about this, an AP Breaking tweet over an hour ago. AP still hasn't published a story about it. Amazing.

Thanks for all the information, Rumpole. I would be SOL if still waiting for Associated Press to report. ;)

Tom Fitton tweeted..
The laws against the improper dissemination of classified material apply to journalists, too.

Lock Ali Watkins up...

Funny.... the Congress/Senate are SUPPOSED to be getting to the bottom of corruption in DoJ/FBI.....yet this is the Congress staff being crooked :doh
It's "an indictment"..... but a small fish in the greater scheme of things.

I couldn't even finish watching the clip, Rumpole, but thanks … another time.
Can't watch Maddow without picturing her crying the night Trump was elected. Why do good people die and she keeps breathing (thinking outloud)?

But I am getting a kick out of reading some of Watkins' tweets back when she was getting the leaks. OMG

I agree with you. Lock her up too. ;)

FWIW... according to CTH..... likely the consensus on Twitter :roll

Image

From the indictment [Note Male-1 is Carter Page]:

Reporter #1 is likely Manu Raju of CNN.
Reporter #2 is definitely Ali Watkins of New York Times.
Reporter #3 is likely Marianna Sotomayor of NBC
Reporter #4 is likely Brian Ross of ABC

I see a lot of Twaddle about the RIGHTS of "Journalists"

Umm... I can see the need for "freedom of the press"... The right to publish information provided by "sources" but....

As I always say... with RIGHTS come RESPONSIBILITIES!!

For instance it is NOT OK to publish information that reveals "sources and methods" of law enforcement. Nor is it OK to publish information that puts people's lives at risk.. or perhaps prejudices ongoing investigations/judicial proceedings.

ALSO.... in most cases these HACKS are NOT actually "journalists" at all!! :roll

They are Political and ideological operatives.... spewing propaganda and actually intentionally attempting to pervert the course of Justice and/or bring about political damage to persons they regard as "the enemy" (eg Trump). In many cases they are NOT simply revealing facts that are leaked to them. They are omitting some of the information or spinning the information to push a false narrative.

Any special 1st amendment "rights" afforded to "Journalists" DOES NOT APPLY to ACTIVIST HACKS!!

ANOTHER letter........... :roll

Nunes sets deadline for DOJ to provide documents on alleged FBI informant, claiming 'obstruction'
Fox News
By Samuel Chamberlain, Catherine Herridge

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., has given the Justice Department until Tuesday to provide access to documents concerning the FBI's alleged informant looking into any Russian ties to President Trump's 2016 campaign.

In a letter sent Friday to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Nunes said the records should be provided to all committee members "and designated staff" rather than just the so-called "Gang of Eight" -- which refers to Republican and Democratic leaders in both houses of Congress as well as top lawmakers from the intelligence panels.

"DOJ continues to obfuscate and delay its production using an array of tactics, such as incorrectly categorizing the requested documents as Gang-of-Eight-level material in order to limit access," wrote Nunes, referring to an April 30 subpoena for the documents. "Such conduct by DOJ is unacceptable because the Gang-of-Eight is a legal fiction that has no basis outside of the confines of Presidential approval and reporting of covert actions."

Nunes also wrote, "Your continued refusal to permit Members of Congress and designated staff to review the requested documents is obstruction of a lawful Congressional investigation."

The DOJ did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

Mueller says that his evidence is SO SECRET it can not be revealed?
Kinda means he CAN'T then make a case :roll

Russia Keeps Meddling, Mueller Says in Bid to Guard Evidence
By David Voreacos and Andrew M Harris
June 13, 2018

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller warned that Russian intelligence services still have active “interference operations” into U.S. elections and that handing over certain evidence in a criminal case could imperil ongoing investigations.

Mueller on Tuesday asked a federal judge in Washington for an order to protect voluminous evidence sought by lawyers for Concord Management and Consulting LLC, one of three companies and 13 Russian nationals charged in a February indictment alleging election meddling via social media. Prosecutors have uncovered evidence of other individuals and entities who are “continuing to engage” in similar activities.
[.....]
Mueller Filing
Unauthorized disclosure of such evidence would help foreign intelligence services in Russia and elsewhere while undermining U.S. law enforcement and national security investigations, Mueller’s prosecutors wrote in Tuesday’s request for a protective order.

U.S. documents identify “sources, methods and techniques used to identify the foreign actors behind these interference operations,” Mueller wrote. Improper disclosure of that information would tip foreign intelligence services about how the U.S. operates and let them “adjust their conduct, thus undermining ongoing and future national security operations.”

What a fiasco…

The British (US) system of justice is based on the prosecution presenting evidence to prove a case. The ONUS is on the prosecution… always. IF the prosecution CAN NOT present a case (even for the silly “it’s a secret” reason claimed by Mueller) then surely there is NO CASE?
This is nuts

PS: Sorry I called you Shirley.

Andrew McCabe and his lawyers are suing the FBI and DoJ.......

Lawsuit: Justice Dept. Failed to Give McCabe Info on Firing
By The Associated Press
June 12, 2018

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has repeatedly refused to provide former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe with documents related to his firing, according to a lawsuit filed on his behalf Tuesday.

The complaint says the Justice Department has publicly defended the firing yet failed to identify for McCabe the policies and procedures it followed before dismissing him. The department has withheld the information, McCabe's lawyers allege, for fear that the materials could be used against them in any additional lawsuits.

"We don't create or adjudicate under secret law or procedure," David Snyder, one of McCabe's lawyers, said in an email to The Associated Press.

Jeff Sessions is the guy who actually fired McCabe (March 16)…..
A VERY rare event… Jeff waking up and doing something…. and he gets sued? LOL.

Rosenstein threatened to 'subpoena' GOP-led committee in 'chilling' clash over records, emails show
Catherine Herridge reports from Washington.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein threatened to “subpoena” emails, phone records and other documents from lawmakers and staff on a Republican-led House committee during a tense meeting earlier this year, according to emails reviewed by Fox News documenting the encounter and reflecting what aides described as a "personal attack."

The emails memorialized a January 2018 closed-door meeting involving senior FBI and Justice Department officials as well as members of the House Intelligence Committee. The account claimed Rosenstein threatened to turn the tables on the committee's inquiries regarding the Russia probe.

“The DAG [Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein] criticized the Committee for sending our requests in writing and was further critical of the Committee’s request to have DOJ/FBI do the same when responding,” the committee's then-senior counsel for counterterrorism Kash Patel wrote to the House Office of General Counsel. “Going so far as to say that if the Committee likes being litigators, then ‘we [DOJ] too [are] litigators, and we will subpoena your records and your emails,’ referring to HPSCI [House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence] and Congress overall.”

A second House committee staffer at the meeting backed up Patel’s account, writing: “Let me just add that watching the Deputy Attorney General launch a sustained personal attack against a congressional staffer in retaliation for vigorous oversight was astonishing and disheartening. ... Also, having the nation’s #1 (for these matters) law enforcement officer threaten to 'subpoena your calls and emails' was downright chilling.”

Rod Rosenstein’s Subpoena Threat: He’s Conflicted, and He’s Acting Like It
By Andrew C. McCarthy
June 13, 2018 12:16 PM

He clings to his role in the process despite being a central witness in Comey’s dismissal.

The House Intelligence Committee is investigating whether the government has used the Justice Department’s awesome investigative authorities as a weapon against political adversaries. We learned yesterday that, in response to this very investigation, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein . . . threatened to use the Justice Department’s awesome investigative authorities as a weapon against political adversaries.

That Rosenstein threatened to subpoena the committee’s records does not seem to be in serious dispute. There are differing accounts about why. House investigators say that Rosenstein was trying to bully his way out of compliance with oversight demands; the Justice Department offers the lawyerly counter that Rosenstein was merely foreshadowing his litigating position if the House were to try to hold him in contempt for obstructing its investigations. Either way, the best explanation for the outburst is that Rosenstein is beset by profound conflicts of interest, and he’s acting like it.

Senate intelligence committee aide pleads not guilty to lying to FBI in classified leaks probe
By Jeff Mordock - The Washington Times - Updated: 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018

James Wolfe, the former security director for the Senate Intelligence Committee, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal charges that he lied to FBI agents about his contacts with reporters in an investigation into the leak of classified information to the press.

The longtime Senate staffer faces three charges of perjury for making false statements to the FBI. He is not charged with leaking classified information.

Mr. Wolfe’s legal team said after the hearing, they would seek a gag order barring government employees, including President Trump, from speaking about the case. He called Mr. Trump’s comments, “improper and prejudicial.”

On Friday, Mr. Trump called Mr. Wolfe, “a very important leaker” and said his arrest “could be a terrific thing.”

“I believe strongly in the freedom of the press. I’m a big, big believer in freedom of the press,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “But I’m also a believer in classified information. It has to remain classified. And that includes [former FBI Director James] Comey and his band of thieves who leaked classified information all over the place. So I’m a big believer in freedom of the press, but I’m also a believer you cannot leak classified information.”

Mueller’s Attempt to Hide Evidence Just Got Torn Apart by Attorneys for Alleged Russian Troll Farm
by Colin Kalmbacher | 6:20 pm, June 14th, 2018

One of the Russian companies indicted by Robert Mueller in the troll farm case has responded to the special counsel’s recently-filed motion prevent discovery of evidence with a blistering (and somewhat trolling) court filing.

On Thursday, attorneys for Concord Management and Consulting LLC timely submitted their 13-page memorandum in opposition to Mueller’s requested order. And things started off interestingly atypical of most legal writing. The document begins:

"Having produced not one iota of discovery in this criminal case, the unlawfully appointed Special Counsel requests a special and unprecedented blanket protective order covering tens of millions of pages of unclassified discovery. Having made this special request based on a secret submission to the Court and a hysterical dithyramb about the future of American elections, one would think that the Special Counsel would cite to case holdings that support this remarkable request."

Whew. As an initial analytical point, referring to Mueller as unlawfully-appointed is an out-of-character own-goal here by Concord Management’s attorneys. Mueller’s appointment is certainly lawful in and of itself and that’s not really a serious point of contention.

The memo continues, “But no, instead, the Special Counsel seeks to equate this make-believe electioneering case to others involving international terrorism and major drug trafficking, and relies only on irrelevant dicta from inapposite, primarily out-of-circuit cases. In short, fake law, which is much more dangerous than fake news.”
