House report backs claim that FBI agents did not think Flynn lied, despite guilty plea
By Judson Berger | Fox News

House Intelligence Committee Republicans, in their newly released report concluding their Russia investigation, seemed to back up reports that FBI agents did not think ex-White House national security adviser Michael Flynn lied to them – despite his eventual guilty plea for making false statements.

Among the 44 findings in the report was a line stating that “Federal Bureau of Investigation agents did not detect any deception during Flynn's interview.”

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York first reported earlier this year that fired FBI boss James Comey had briefed lawmakers amid allegations Flynn had lied to Vice President Pence about conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and speculation he may have misled FBI agents who questioned him in January 2017. Comey reportedly told lawmakers at the time that agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe he lied in that Jan. 24 meeting, and that any inaccuracies in his account were unintentional.

Michael Flynn’s sentencing has been postponed (again)
by Kelly Cohen. May 01, 2018 05:12 PM

Lawyers for both special counsel Robert Mueller and President Trump’s former national security adviser want two more months until Michael Flynn is sentenced.

In a court filing in Washington on Tuesday afternoon, Mueller’s office asks for a postponement "due to the status of the special counsel's investigation."

Lawyers for Flynn — who pleaded guilty in November to lying to the FBI about conversations with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December 2016 — agreed.
[....]
Flynn is cooperating with Mueller, according to documents released as part of his plea agreement.

The next update would be in two months, or no later than June 29.

'God damn you to hell,' Michael Caputo tells Senate intel panel
by Diana Stancy Correll. May 01, 2018 08:34 PM

Republican consultant and former Trump campaign aide Michael Caputo told the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday, "God damn you to hell," during an interview as part of the panel’s Russia investigation.

In Caputo’s closing statement obtained by the Washington Examiner, he said the panel's investigation “forced” his family out of their home and “crushed” his children due to mounting legal costs associated with the inquiry.

"Today, I can’t possibly pay the attendant legal costs and live near my aging father, raising my kids where I grew up,” Caputo said. “Your investigation and others into the allegations of Trump campaign collusion with Russia are costing my family a great deal of money — more than $125,000 — and making a visceral impact on my children."

Judge rejects Mueller's request for delay in Russian troll farm case
Russian firm linked to Putin's chef accuses special counsel of 'pettifoggery.'
By JOSH GERSTEIN, 05/04/2018 06:56 PM EDT
Updated 05/05/2018 06:37 PM EDT

A federal judge has rejected special counsel Robert Mueller’s request to delay the first court hearing in a criminal case charging three Russian companies and 13 Russian citizens with using social media and other means to foment strife among Americans in advance of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

In a brief order Saturday evening, U.S. District Court Judge Dabney Friedrich offered no explanation for her decision to deny a request prosecutors made Friday to put off the scheduled Wednesday arraignment for Concord Management and Consulting, one of the three firms charged in the case.

The 13 people charged in the high-profile indictment in February are considered unlikely to ever appear in a U.S. court. The three businesses accused of facilitating the alleged Russian troll farm operation — the Internet Research Agency, Concord Management, and Concord Catering — were also expected to simply ignore the American criminal proceedings.

Last month, however, a pair of Washington-area lawyers suddenly surfaced in the case, notifying the court that they represent Concord Management. POLITICO reported at the time that the move appeared to be a bid to force Mueller’s team to turn over relevant evidence to the Russian firm and perhaps even to bait prosecutors into an embarrassing dismissal in order to avoid disclosing sensitive information.

YET ANOTHER LETTER... from Congress demanding documents from FBI (or DoJ)

No doubt this will be ignored like all the others... :doh

Senator Chuck Grassley Requests FBI Reports etc in regards Flynn investigation.
Including Testimony From Special Agent Joe Pientk.. it would seem Grassly is "outing" the name of the second FBI agent who, along with Peter Strzok interviewed Mike Flynn.

Grassley is requesting:
  • The transcription of the phone call(s) intercepted by the FBI between Flynn and Russian Ambassador Kislyak
  • The FD 302’s written by the FBI in their interview with Michael Flynn
  • Testimony from Special Agent Joe Pientk, likely the second FBI agent who was partnered with Peter Strzok for the Flynn interview.

The Grassley letter May 11th 2018 (pdf 2 pages)

Russian firm accused of funding U.S. election trolling disputes Mueller charge
Company tied to Putin's chef says prosecutors invented 'make-believe crime.'
By JOSH GERSTEIN
05/14/2018

A Russian firm with ties to an ally of President Vladimir Putin is challenging the legal basis of special counsel Robert Mueller's charge that the company funded Moscow's effort to disrupt the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Lawyers for Concord Management and Consulting — a Saint Petersburg-based business said to be controlled by a Russian oligarch known as Putin's chef — are accusing Mueller of inventing a "make-believe crime" in order to achieve a "political" goal of prosecuting someone for interfering in the U.S. presidential race.

Mueller may have a conflict — and it leads directly to a Russian oligarch
By John Solomon, opinion contributor — 05/14/18 03:30 PM EDT

Image

Special counsel Robert Mueller has withstood relentless political attacks, many distorting his record of distinguished government service.

But there’s one episode even Mueller’s former law enforcement comrades — and independent ethicists — acknowledge raises legitimate legal issues and a possible conflict of interest in his overseeing the Russia election probe.

In 2009, when Mueller ran the FBI, the bureau asked Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska to spend millions of his own dollars funding an FBI-supervised operation to rescue a retired FBI agent, Robert Levinson, captured in Iran while working for the CIA in 2007.

Yes, that’s the same Deripaska who has surfaced in Mueller’s current investigation and who was recently sanctioned by the Trump administration.

[.....]
“Deripaska’s efforts came very close to success,” said David McGee, a former federal prosecutor who represents Levinson’s family. “We were told at one point that the terms of Levinson’s release had been agreed to by Iran and the U.S. and included a statement by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pointing a finger away from Iran. At the last minute, Secretary Clinton decided not to make the agreed-on statement.”

The State Department declined comment, and a spokesman for Clinton did not offer comment. Mueller’s spokesman, Peter Carr, declined to answer questions. As did McCabe.

[.....]
Deripaska once hired Manafort as a political adviser and invested money with him in a business venture that went bad. Deripaska sued Manafort, alleging he stole money.

Mueller’s indictment of Manafort makes no mention of Deripaska, even though prosecutors have evidence that Manafort contemplated inviting his old Russian client for a 2016 Trump campaign briefing. Deripaska said he never got the invite and investigators have found no evidence it occurred. There’s no public evidence Deripaska had anything to do with election meddling.

Deripaska also appears to be one of the first Russians the FBI asked for help when it began investigating the now-infamous Fusion GPS “Steele Dossier.” Waldman, his American lawyer until the sanctions hit, gave me a detailed account, some of which U.S. officials confirm separately.

Two months before Trump was elected president, Deripaska was in New York as part of Russia’s United Nations delegation when three FBI agents awakened him in his home; at least one agent had worked with Deripaska on the aborted effort to rescue Levinson. During an hour-long visit, the agents posited a theory that Trump’s campaign was secretly colluding with Russia to hijack the U.S. election.

Deripaska laughed but realized, despite the joviality, that they were serious,” the lawyer said. “So he told them in his informed opinion the idea they were proposing was false. ‘You are trying to create something out of nothing,’ he told them.” The agents left though the FBI sought more information in 2017 from the Russian, sources tell me. Waldman declined to say if Deripaska has been in contact with the FBI since Sept, 2016.

So why care about some banished Russian oligarch’s account now?

Two reasons.

First, as the FBI prepared to get authority to surveil figures on Trump’s campaign team, did it disclose to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that one of its past Russian sources waived them off the notion of Trump-Russia collusion?

Second, the U.S. government in April imposed sanctions on Deripaska, one of several prominent Russians targeted to punish Vladimir Putin — using the same sort of allegations that State used from 2006 to 2009. Yet, between those two episodes, Deripaska seemed good enough for the FBI to ask him to fund that multimillion-dollar rescue mission. And to seek his help on a sensitive political investigation. And to allow him into the country eight times.

Poor Robert Levinson and his family. :(

I don't know what to believe anymore.
It's unreal that Mueller and ALL his staff/attorneys are getting paid so much and have shown nothing for it up to this point.
I'm really disappointed the charade continues and President Trump has not directed his people to end it.

Melanie Sloan, a former Clinton Justice Department lawyer and longtime ethics watchdog, told me a “far more significant issue” is whether the earlier FBI operation was even legal: “It’s possible the bureau’s arrangement with Mr. Deripaska violated the Antideficiency Act, which prohibits the government from accepting voluntary services.”

Voluntary services? Who spends millions of their own dollars without getting something in return?

Thanks for the article, Rumpole, but I doubt anything will become of this "conflict of interest". It's like they are all immune from being held accountable of any wrongdoing.
