EXCLUSIVE: Ex-British ambassador who is now a WikiLeaks operative claims Russia did NOT provide Clinton emails - they were handed over to him at a D.C. park by an intermediary for 'disgusted' Democratic whistleblowers

  • Craig Murray, former British ambassador to Uzbekistan and associate of Julian Assange, told the Dailymail.com he flew to Washington, D.C. for emails
  • He claims he had a clandestine hand-off in a wooded area near American University with one of the email sources
  • The leakers' motivation was 'disgust at the corruption of the Clinton Foundation and the 'tilting of the primary election playing field against Bernie Sanders'
  • Murray says: 'The source had legal access to the information. The documents came from inside leaks, not hacks'
  • 'Regardless of whether the Russians hacked into the DNC, the documents Wikileaks published did not come from that,' Murray insists
  • Murray is a controversial figure who was relieved of his post as British ambassador amid allegations of misconduct but is close to Wikileaks

A Wikileaks envoy today claims he personally received Clinton campaign emails in Washington D.C. after they were leaked by 'disgusted' whisteblowers - and not hacked by Russia.

Craig Murray, former British ambassador to Uzbekistan and a close associate of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, told Dailymail.com that he flew to Washington, D.C. for a clandestine hand-off with one of the email sources in September.

'Neither of [the leaks] came from the Russians,' said Murray in an interview with Dailymail.com on Tuesday. 'The source had legal access to the information. The documents came from inside leaks, not hacks.'

His account contradicts directly the version of how thousands of Democratic emails were published before the election being advanced by U.S. intelligence.

Tweets from Assange’s mum fuel conspiracy theory on Clinton email leaks
Published time: 22 Aug, 2018 14:57

Julian Assange’s mother caused excitement on Twitter, saying an ex-DNC worker leaked the Clinton emails. Christine Assange deleted her post after followers concluded that she meant Seth Rich, who was killed in 2016.

The story unfolded after Christine responded to a tweet claiming Julian Assange had given the then presidential candidate Donald Trump the “upper hand” by leaking the Clinton emails.

Christine replied in the now-removed tweet:

The public apparently deduced from her tweet that she was implying it was the ex-Democratic National Committee (DNC) digital campaigner, Seth Rich, who had been the WikiLeaks source when the party emails were leaked at the height of presidential campaigning in 2016.

As his isolation intensifies, WikiLeaks' Julian Assange faces possible threat of eviction, extradition
By James Gordon Meek, Ali Dukakis
Aug 29, 2018, 11:53 AM ET

LONDON — For Julian Assange, the world’s most famous whistleblower, freedom could be dangerous.

As his residency at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London enters its seventh year, the self-styled cyber revolutionary – WikiLeaks’ founder and controversial publisher of some of the world’s most closely guarded official secrets – is facing a pair of converging crises that have left his allies fearing for his wellbeing and his safety.

Inside the embassy, he is living an increasingly secluded existence, having been stripped of his phones, computers and visitor privileges after running afoul of the very government that gave him asylum. Outside the embassy, he is embroiled in the global political scandal surrounding Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election, with questions about his role in that drama being raised by friends and foes alike.

Julian Assange is in very poor health, needs treatment, says WikiLeaks lawyer

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange’s Australian lawyer has reportedly revealed more about his health as he remains in Ecuador.

News Corp Australia Network. September 8

WIKILEAKS publisher Julian Assange is in extremely poor health and unless he is released from the Ecuadorean embassy in London, his condition may deteriorate to the point where his life is in jeopardy.

Australian lawyer Greg Barns, who is a member of Assange’s legal team and also an adviser to WikiLeaks, told iTWire that Assange had not been able to access medical treatment for six years.

This was because the UK Government won’t let him leave the Ecuadorean Embassy to see a doctor, according to Mr Barns — in case he is arrested.

“This is a cruel and inhumane stance from a government professing to be a liberal democracy,” Barns said.

“What is remarkable is that Julian remains so mentally alert and is able to function physically given the inevitable impact of six years detention without natural light or access to fresh air on a constant basis

Exclusive: Ecuador attempted to give Assange diplomat post in Russia - document
Alexandra Valencia

The aborted effort suggests Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno had engaged Moscow to resolve the situation of Assange, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy for six years to avoid arrest by British authorities on charges of skipping bail.

The incident was revealed in a letter by Ecuador’s foreign ministry to a legislator who had asked for information about Ecuador’s decision last year to grant Assange citizenship.

Ecuador last Dec. 19 approved a “special designation in favor of Mr. Julian Assange so that he can carry out functions at the Ecuadorean Embassy in Russia,” according to the letter written to opposition legislator Paola Vintimilla.

“Special designation” refers to the Ecuadorean president’s right to name political allies to a fixed number of diplomatic posts even if they are not career diplomats.

But Britain’s Foreign Office in a Dec. 21 note said it did not accept Assange as a diplomat and that it did not “consider that Mr. Assange enjoys any type of privileges and immunities under the Vienna Convention,” reads the letter, citing a British diplomatic note.

Ecuador abandoned its decision shortly after, according to the letter.

With his internet cut off, Julian Assange steps down as editor of WikiLeaks
Taylor Hatmake

WikiLeaks has a new top dog. Its contentious figurehead and founder, Julian Assange, will step aside, letting former WikiLeaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson take the reins due to what WikiLeaks calls “extraordinary circumstances” that have seen Assange “held incommunicado.”

Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry Reaffirms Asylum for WikiLeaks Founder Assange

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Jose Valencia Amores on Friday reaffirmed the country’s decision to grant asylum to the WikiLeaks whistleblowing website’s founder, Julian Assange.

"His status of the person who is seeking asylum still remains in force," the foreign minister told the Universo newspaper.

Valencia added that the issue of Assange must be settled through the direct dialogue between the whistleblower’s lawyers and the authorities of the United Kingdom, where he is currently residing in the Ecuadorian embassy.

Ecuador tells Assange to avoid political activity online – and feed the cat

WikiLeaks founder told by Ecuadorian embassy to respect rules or lose diplomatic asylum

Image

Ecuador has laid out a stringent new set of house rules for Julian Assange, warning the whistleblower to avoid online comments about political issues – and ordering him to clean his bathroom and take better care of his cat, or risk losing his pet.

Assange, who has been living in Ecuador’s UK embassy since June 2012, must obtain approval for all visitors from diplomatic staff three days in advance. He is expressly banned from activities which could be “considered as political or interfering with the internal affairs of other states,” according to the memo seen by the Guardian.

The Ecuadorian government partially lifted restrictions Assange’s internet access at the weekend, but the document stipulates that the WikiLeaks founder will only be allowed to use the embassy wifi for his personal computer and phone.

Julian Assange fights asylum terms dictating he has to pay for food, cat care
The new terms say that because of budget cuts, the embassy is no longer able to pay medical, laundry or food costs associated with Assange's stay.
by Reuters / Oct. 22, 2018

QUITO, Ecuador — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has filed a lawsuit in Ecuador against new terms of asylum in the Andean country's London embassy that require him to pay for medical bills and phone calls and to clean up after his pet cat, his lawyer said Friday.

Ecuador created the new protocol governing his stay at the embassy this month. Assange's attorney, Baltasar Garzón, said at a news conference in Quito that the rules were drawn up without consulting Assange, an Australian national, who sued Foreign Minister Jose Valencia in a Quito court to have them changed.

Assange has not had access to the internet since it was cut off in March, Garzón added, contradicting a WikiLeaks statement last week saying it had been restored.

Ecuador: Enough UK guarantees for Assange to leave embassy
By GONZALO SOLANO and JOSHUA GOODMAN

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Ecuador’s president has ramped up pressure on Julian Assange to leave his country’s embassy in London, saying that Britain had provided sufficient guarantees that the WikiLeaks founder won’t be extradited to face the death penalty abroad.

Lenin Moreno’s comments in a radio interview Thursday suggest that months of quiet diplomacy between the U.K. and Ecuador to resolve Assange’s situation is bearing fruit at a time when questions are swirling about the former Australian hacker’s legal fate in the U.S.

Ecuador: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can leave London embassy

Conditions have been met for Julian Assange to leave Ecuador's embassy in London. Britain has guaranteed that the WikiLeaks founder would not be extradited to any country where his life would be in danger.

Ecuador's president, Lenin Moreno, said on Thursday that "the way has been cleared" for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to leave the country's embassy in London.

Assange, 47, has spent the last six years in Ecuador's embassy to avoid arrest and extradition to Sweden on allegations of sexual assault. Sweden has since dropped the case, and Ecuador says there are no pending extradition requests against him.

Julian Assange expected to be expelled from Ecuadorean embassy within ‘hours to days’

In “hours to days” the Ecuadorean embassy will reportedly expel Julian Assange, after more than six years of sanctuary there.
Charis Chang and AFP
news.com.au April 5

Julian Assange’s stay at the Ecuadorean embassy will reportedly end within “hours to days”.

WikiLeaks tweeted today that its founder would be turfed out of the embassy in London where he has lived for more than six years.

“A high level source within the Ecuadorian state has told @WikiLeaks that Julian Assange will be expelled within “hours to days” using the #INAPapers offshore scandal as a pretext — and that it already has an agreement with the UK for his arrest,” the tweet said.

The news comes after the INA Papers website published allegations of corruption involving Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno.

WikiLeaks has told AP: “If President Moreno wants to illegally terminate a refugee publisher’s asylum to cover up an offshore corruption scandal, history will not be kind”.

In an interview broadcast by several Ecuadorean radio stations on Tuesday, Mr Moreno said Mr Assange had “repeatedly violated” the conditions of his asylum at the country’s embassy in London.
