4:34 p.m. ET: Nakasone is explaining how voice identification technology can compare voices and eliminate voices during the analysis.

4:29 p.m. ET: Mantei is asking Nakasone about how the scientific group he works with is trying to come up with standard guidelines for using voice identification technology.

Nakasome not aware of any system that could give a reliable answer of the voice sample given. Wishes he had one.

"Disturbing" - word used by Nakasome to describe a system that is able to distinguish someone's voice based on the sample, based on claims made about the system.

State trying to argue methodology their witness used is the same as the FBI. Not sure how that works considering the nature of the system used.

Recessed until tomorrow.

Great witness for the defense IMO. The state tried to downplay the expertise and tried to suggest the methodologies between their expert and the FBI are identical, but in the end I don't see that argument standing.

4:47 p.m. ET: Mantei said someone may have a different opinion about the capabilities of the voice identification technology. Nakasone agreed with Mantei saying he had a problem with the opinion, but not the technology. Judge Nelson has recessed court until Friday at 9:00 a.m. ET.

4:42 p.m. ET: Nakasone does not believe any technology available today that could reliably identify the screams on the 911 call. He called it "disturbing" to think some thinks it is possible to identify those screams. He said it would be a breakthrough in the field.

4:39 p.m. ET: Nakasone is explaining how someone can train their ear to identify voices.

He was a very good witness, and the judge basically now has to choose between two things:

Sober, restrained estimation of what the science is currently capable of doing by someone who's been in the field for decades and is prominent enough to be one of the FBI's top analysts, and who, despite this field being his entire life... is still able to be professional enough to acknowledge it's limitations particularly when comparing a scream to speech.

OR

A gaggle of money-grubbing idiots who have violated even their OWN supposed standards about 10 comparable words, are releasing expensive software days from issuing a paid opinion to the media, talk about "in my mind's eye I can see it all playing out like you in the media erroneously described!" and EVP quackery about "these shall be" and such. Basically a continuation of the "coons" debacle earlier in this case. Letting emotion and a bogus narrative influence a shaky science in a realm it isn't equipped to tackle.

In other words, a really really clear decision for any judge with an ounce of sense.

Which is why I predict Nelson denies the defense motion.

BTW The tape sounds like George to me... clear as anything.... no question, based on KNOWING his voice having heard lots of long samples.
The ONLY way it could be TM is if TM had a similar "high pitched" voice to George and a similar "accent" (not ebonics-a-sised)
To check.... anybody would need a lengthy sample of TM's normal speech

I think a HUMAN analysis is necessary... machines do require a sample not "stepped on" but I think a human can compensate for (hear around) the overlaid voices.

IMHO the ONLY way to do an analysis of such a brief sample as the 911 scream is to use TRAINED experts... not just one... but 5 or 6 listening "blind" then comparing those opinions. I would expect a UNANIMOUS result... in fact I would only accept a unanimous result as proof for purposes in court.

I suspect the gate keeper here will lock the thread soon until tomorrow. If we get access to video to replay todays testimony, please post it, maybe in the 1st post in this thread. TIA!

Back to that anon/confidential issue... while MOM was pointing out the danger involved, I wish he mentioned the $10,000 DEAD or ALIVE reward the state did nothing about.
