Oscar Pistorius' slain girlfriend was left traumatised by similar kind of burglary two years ago
Published: Monday, Mar 18, 2013, 1

Oscar Pistorius' girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's family has revealed the 29-year old model was left traumatised by a burglary two years ago when she hid in a locked bedroom.

The incident echoes Steenkamp's Valentine's Day killing by boyfriend Pistorius, the Daily Mirror reports.

Steenkamp had received therapy after raiders smashed their way into her Johannesburg apartment and ransacked it while she hid, the paper said.

I wonder if Oscar was aware of this incident?

Pistorius brothers both have court dates next week
By By GERALD IMRAY, Associated Press

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Oscar Pistorius' appeal against his bail conditions will be heard on the same day his older brother Carl is due in another South African court to stand trial for culpable homicide.

The double-amputee Olympic athlete's legal team will challenge some of his bail conditions at the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday, the family lawyer told The Associated Press.

Carl's trial is set for Wednesday and Thursday next week in a court south of Johannesburg, the lawyer and prosecutors said.

The concurrent cases will thrust the family into another media frenzy, even if multiple Paralympic champion Oscar — charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last month — is not required to appear at his bail appeal.

Ryan Gosling and Charlize Theron lined up to play Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp
By BECI WOOD

HOLLYWOOD heartthrob Ryan Gosling and South African beauty Charlize Theron are being lined up to star as murder-charge athelete Oscar Pistorius and his late model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in a forthcoming biopic, reports claim.

The Drive star recently announced he was taking a break from acting but it's thought he could be tempted to play such a high-profile role.

The Daily Mail claim that a number of scripts are being developed in Hollywood which tell the tragic story of South Africa's one-time Paralympian hero and the fateful Valentine's Day morning in which his model girlfriend was shot and killed.

Oscar, who is currently on bail, denies murder and claims he mistook Reeva for an intruder.

Sources say two scripts are being currently being developed in Hollywood with an announcement expected soon from one of the major film studios.

Hmmm rather than wait for an outcome they're writing two scripts.

This case may not be a slam dunk.

Oscar Pistorius' brother Carl pleads not guilty in female motorcyclist road death trial
Wednesday 27 March 2013

Image

Carl Pistorius, the sharp suited brother of Paralympian double-amputee Oscar Pistorius, pleaded not guilty to a charge of culpable homicide for the death of a female motorcyclist in a 2008 road collision.

Chewing gum as he took copious notes during witness testimony on the first day of his trial, Carl looked confident, especially as his lawyer Kenny Oldwadge - who also represents his brother Oscar - subjected the state prosecution’s first witness to a thorough cross-examination.

The elder Pistorius brother is accused of driving an SUV recklessly in March 2008, when he collided with a female motorcyclist in Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg, resulting her death six days later, after she was hospitalised for her injuries. Prosecutors say Carl Pistorius swerved his vehicle into Marietjie Barnard, who was overtaking him on her motorcycle, and she had no way to avoid him.

Oscar Pistorius allowed to leave South Africa as bail conditions changed
AFP
March 28, 2013 9:42PM

A SOUTH African court has cleared Oscar Pistorius for international travel after the Paralympian challenged his stringent bail terms.

Pistorius' agent said that this year's world championships could be "on the radar."

Judge Bert Bam said Pistorius, who is charged with murder in the Valentine's Day shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, must travel under certain conditions. His passport will be held by a court while he is in South Africa, and he can only leave the country if he provides an itinerary of his travel plans at least a week before he is due to leave. Pistorius must also hand his travel documents back to the court within 24 hours of returning home.

The ruling in a North Gauteng High Court opens the way for the Paralympic champion, who is facing a life sentence if found guilty of murder, to run in international competitions again.

Pistorius' agent, Peet van Zyl, said soon after the ruling that Pistorius could even run at the world championships in Moscow in August - if he wanted to and if he qualified.

"Based on this (judge's decision), and if he is up for it and qualifies, the world championships will definitely be on the radar," Mr Van Zyl said by telephone.

The judge's decision was "fair," Mr Van Zyl said, but any return to competition would be up to Pistorius, who hasn't run competitively since September or trained for two months.

Oscar Pistorius faces athletics snub after bail conditions relaxed
Governing body believed to be planning talks with members to dissuade them from inviting murder accused to compete

Anna Kessel, and David Smith in Johannesburg
The Guardian, Thursday 28 March 2013 19.28 GMT

The sporting world seemed poised to give the cold shoulder to Oscar Pistorius after a court in South Africa allowed the Olympic and Paralympic star to return to international competition.

Organisers of major athletics meetings now face a dilemma over whether to invite the 26-year-old to race. Many privately admit that they are reluctant to welcome Pistorius, who is awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home last month.

British Athletics declined to comment on the issue, but sources close to the governing body say Pistorius is unlikely to receive an invitation to run at the London Anniversary Games, to be held in the Olympic Stadium on 27 July, or at the Birmingham Grand Prix on 30 June.

Pistorius was a headline act at two prominent Diamond League meetings in the United States last year – New York and Eugene – but he is unlikely to be welcomed back to either this year. Organisers for the two events refused to comment publicly, but one source said: "My gut feeling is that it would be completely unrealistic."

The official line from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the sport's governing body, is that it will not dictate to meeting organisers which athletes they invite to their events. But it is believed that any organisers who do invite Pistorius will risk incurring the wrath of the authorities, who fear an onslaught of negative publicity for the sport.

An IAAF spokesperson said: "All invitations are at the discretion of the meeting organisers, and not the IAAF."

I'm surprised that he'd want to compete considering his girl friend is dead and he's accused of murdering her.

Oscar Pistorius won't be snubbed by athletics organisers because of murder trial, insists Paralympian's agent

Oscar Pistorius would be welcomed back to certain athletics meetings when he decides to return to competition, his agent Peet van Zyl has claimed.

By Telegraph Sport
10:54AM BST 31 Mar 2013

Pistorius, known as "the Blade Runner", could attempt to qualify for this year's World Championships in Moscow.

Although van Zyl has said any return will be the sole decision of Pistorius he does not believe event organisers will be put off with the pending court case.

Oscar Pistorius keen to resume training despite facing murder trial

    • Case over girlfriend's death set for end of the year
    • Last competitive race was at the London Paralympics

Associated Press
The Guardian, Wednesday 3 April 2013 18.41 BST

Oscar Pistorius wants to train again and recently went back to visit his regular track in South Africa's capital, according to the double-amputee athlete's agent.

There was still no decision on an exact timeframe for the multiple Paralympic champion's return to regular running, but Pistorius told his agent Peet van Zyl and longtime coach Ampie Louw at a meeting on Tuesday that he was "definitely keen to get back on track to resume training," the agent said.

"When, exactly, is his choice," Van Zyl said. Pistorius, who is facing a murder trial at the end of the year following the shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, had also revisited his practice track in Pretoria on 24 March, although he did not train.

Pistorius last trained on a track over two months ago, and his last competitive race was his victory in the 400m final at the London Paralympics in September last year.

Oscar Pistorius' agent confirms athlete is running again

Oscar Pistorius' agent says the paralympian's return to competitive training is imminent and that he is considering several upcoming international running events.

3:09PM BST 06 Apr 2013

Peet van Zyl revealed the plans after a grainy mobile phone photograph was published in Pretoria local media purporting to show the Oscar Pistorius wearing his running blades on a track at the University of Pretoria.

He said Pistorius had chosen to have a jog around the track of his own accord, after which he requested a meeting with his coaching team to discuss a resumption of training.

Van Zyl said it was "just to have a bit of a run, to feel what it would feel like if he put the blades on again."

It's the first time it has been confirmed that the athlete has run since he was charged with the Valentine's Day shooting of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Oscar Pistorius pictured on a running track for first time since girlfriend's death

Oscar Pistorius has been pictured on a running track for the first time since his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead inside his home.

By Telegraph Sport
11:57AM BST 04 Apr 2013

The two-time 2012 Paralympic gold medallist was photographed running round a track in his home town of Pretoria while on bail charged with murdering Steenkamp.

The photograph, which appeared in South African newspaper The Witness, shows Pistorius wearing his blades in a deserted stadium.

Pistorius' agent Peet Van Zyl confirmed Pistorius went for "a jog" but denies he has returned to training following the relaxation of his bail conditions.

However, he said the 26-year-old is ready to return to training as a way of dealing with his grief.

He said: "He was just having a jog around his track on his own accord. He wasn't back at training.

"That picture was taken by a schoolkid on March 24. Myself, Oscar and his coach had a meeting on Tuesday to discuss him getting him back to training.

"Based on that he told us he would like to get back in training and we can now look at formulating his training schedule.

Oscar Pistorius: family hits out at attacks on relatives of Reeva Steenkamp

The family of Oscar Pistorius have spoken out against attacks on the family of his murdered girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on social media websites, saying they are "deeply disturbed" by such treatment.

By Aislinn Laing, Johannesburg
3:22PM BST 11 Apr 2013

"The disregard that is being shown by some - specifically those commenting via social media - for the profound pain that Reeva's family and friends are going through is very troubling," the family of the Paralympian, who is accused of shooting Miss Steenkamp dead on Valentine's Day, said in a statement.

"There is not a moment in the day that Oscar does not mourn for his girlfriend and Reeva's family, and all those who were close to her, are in his thoughts constantly," they continued.

The statement came in response to the establishment of a group on Twitter who tweet their support for Oscar Pistorius and belief in his innocence under the hashtag #Pistorians.

The group posts shirtless pictures of Pistorius under the hashtag #OscarPorn and, during his bail hearing, cheered on his lawyers.

The group, which has supporters in South Africa, Germany, Ireland, England, Australia, Brazil and even the island of Borneo, recently featured on the front page of South Africa's Heat magazine, in which they were described as "crazed" Oscar fans attacking Miss Steenkamp's family.

Family of Oscar Pistorius says he has spent time with people who knew slain girlfriend
Published April 11, 2013
Associated Press

JOHANNESBURG – The family of athlete Oscar Pistorius says the South African runner has been spending time with people who were close to the girlfriend he shot and killed in February.

A statement from the family of the double-amputee Olympian also said Thursday that Pistorius has spent that time in "surroundings where shared memories were created."

The statement indicates Pistorius is interacting more with people outside his uncle Arnold's home in Pretoria, where he has been staying since he was released on bail in February. Pistorius has been charged with murder in the Valentine's Day killing of Reeva Steenkamp. He called the killing an accident, saying he thought he was firing at an intruder through a bathroom door.

His next scheduled court appearance is June 4.

Pistorius family hits out at Oscar's 'disturbing' Twitter fan club for attacking Reeva Steenkamp's memory and 'disregarding' pain felt by her relatives

  • The group defends reputation of their hero, who is charged with murder
  • Pistorius family said group's disregard for pain felt by Reeva's family and friends is 'very troubling'

By Sean O'hare
PUBLISHED: 20:27 GMT, 11 April 2013 | UPDATED: 13:44 GMT, 12 April 2013

The family of Oscar Pistorius has said it is 'deeply disturbed' by their son's Twitter support group attacking the memory of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp who he shot and killed on Valentine's Day.

The statement issued today said: 'The disregard that is being shown by some - specifically those commenting via social media - for the profound pain that Reeva's family and friends are going through is very troubling'

The statement came in response to the establishment of a group on Twitter who tweet their support for Oscar Pistorius and believe in his innocence under the hashtag #Pistorians.

The group - which is reportedly unofficially led by a woman from the UK called Laura Lambden - includes supporters in South Africa, Germany, and the island of Borneo.

One tweet read: 'If you want to label me a #Pistorian because I say 'why are there so many tributes to Reeva when many women have died since her' so be it!'

Another, which was later removed, appeared to criticise Miss Steenkamp for posing in a bikini: 'Errr like she was a bikini model. 'Sex sells'!!! I would be really upset if my daughter posed like that.'

Oscar Pistorius 'strenuously' denies 'downing drinks and flirting'

Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympic athlete accused of murdering his girlfriend, has "strenuously and vigorously" denied a report that he was "partying it up" in a Johannesburg restaurant last weekend, downing drinks and flirting with women.

By Aislinn Laing, Johannesburg
3:24PM BST 14 Apr 2013

A spokesman for Pistorius dismissed as "sensationalist" the report in South Africa's Sunday Times that quoted several witnesses as seeing a "relaxed-looking and talkative" Oscar at the Kitchen Bar in northern Johannesburg last Saturday.

The paper said many of the restaurant's guests were shocked to see Pistorius, 26, who is out on bail while he awaits trial for shooting Reeva Steenkamp, walk into the private area at around 9pm, accompanied by a male friend and several bodyguards.

"He was drinking shooters and he was flirtatious. He didn't seem like someone [who had] lost the love of his life," one unnamed woman was quoted as saying.

"He's the last person we expected to see," another guest reportedly said.

"I can't believe he showed his face in public, carrying on as if nothing's happened." The same witness claimed Pistorius flirted with several women. "He was greeting a couple and then gave the woman a little pat on her backside. It was just so inappropriate," the guest told the paper.

Oscar Pistorius 'has no plans' to compete abroad

Oscar Pistorius does not plan to return to international athletics in the immediate future, his agent said after a snub from the organisers of London's Anniversary Games

By AFP
3:17PM BST 17 Apr 2013

"Oscar has no plans to compete internationally at this point," said Peet van Zyl, dismissing suggestions Pistorius had planned to compete at the July 26-28 Anniversary Games, but was not invited.

"There never were any plans for Oscar to participate in London," said Van Zyl. "He is not training officially and there are no plans, at this point, for him to resume his international career."

The comments come after organisers of the three-day Anniversary Games at London's Olympic Park said the South African Paralympian, who has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, would not be welcome.

"I don't want to see the Sunday of the Anniversary Games turning into a media circus," UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner said.

Last month the double amputee, who is known as the "Blade Runner", successfully challenged his strict bail conditions, opening the door for him to travel abroad and fuelling speculation about a return to the track.
