Oscar Pistorius has now arrived at court.

He arrived just a few minutes before the trial is scheduled to start.

Wearing a grey suit and a dark tie, he didn't acknowledge people as he arrived.

He sipped on a bottle of water as he entered the dock.

As he sat down he glanced towards his family, but did not look at the Steenkamps.

After sitting down he chatted to a junior member of his legal team in front of the dock.

The court artist hugged him - it is believed she is an athletics trainer.

Some expert witnesses have been seen in court, suggesting we may hear evidence beyond the prosecution opening.

Pathologist Professor Gert Saayman is there.

So too is Captain Francois Moller, a mobile phone analyst, and Gerard Labuschange, head of the Investigative Psychology Unit.

Looks like Judge Thokozile Masipa will be entering court shortly.

June Steenkamp looks exhausted.

Oscar is now standing talking to his defence team

Oscar takes his seat again.

Media in overflow court have been told that the same court rules apply to them. No photographs to be taken.

Files have arrived at court and the judge will be fetch from her chambers.

Pistorius and the Steenkamp family are all sharing a court bench.

Court already 30 minutes late - every-one looks restless.

The woman known as Annamarie tried to intervene in previous case proceedings.

She tried to have him committed to a mental hospital for observation.

She has been handing out papers to the legal teams.

A picture has emerged from inside court showing June Steenkamp looking at Oscar Pistorius as he entered the dock.

The paralympian continued to his seat without looking at her or the rest of Reeva's family.

Instead he sat down and has been making copious notes before the trial begins.

Pistorius will first be asked to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty to the charges he faces.

Although he's already made it quite clear during his bail application last year that he denies murder - claiming the death of Ms Steenkamp to be a tragic case of mistaken identity - he must still enter a plea which in all likelihood will be not guilty.

He also faces three other charges relating to firearms and ammunition to which he will also have to enter a plea
