Oscar Pistorius arrives at court

Pistorius has now arrived at court for day three of his hearing.

The court heard from a defence witness on Tuesday who said the 27-year-old would be "broken as a person" if he was jailed.

The hearing is expected to get underway at 8.30am UK time.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel continues his cross-examination of probation officer Annette Vergeer.

She has told the hearing already how she does not believe Pistorius should be sent to prison.

Oscar Pistorius will be back in court today for the third day of his sentencing hearing for the killing of Reeva Steenkamp.

The double amputee sprinter, 27, shot his former girlfriend through the bathroom door of his home last Valentine's Day.

He told a court it was a tragic accident after he mistook Reeva for an intruder.

Pistorius was cleared of murder but convicted of culpable homicide.

He faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

Earlier in the hearing, the Olympic athlete's defence team argued he "should not be destroyed".

Prison servic has duty to "ensure prisoners' human dignity"

Mr Modise said prisons had a duty to detain "inmates in safe custody while ensuring their human dignity" as well as promoting their social development.

He said there had been a department from the old prison system to a new way of working.

Nel: "There are facilities in the country that can cater for every type of person."

Modise: "That is correct."
