At least 3 cops killed, 3 more wounded in Baton Rouge
Last Updated Jul 17, 2016 2:39 PM EDT

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A deadly shooting in already-tense Baton Rouge killed three police officers and wounded three more early Sunday morning, as tensions over policing remain high in cities across the nation.

The three wounded officers are in "very critical" condition, police tell CBS News.

A suspect described by police as a black male has been killed, and two other suspects may be at large, according to officials. Police involved in the shooting included officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department and deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office.

Police responded to a report of officers shot at a location on Airline Highway near Old Hammond Highway around 9 a.m., reports CBS affiliate WAFB.

Baton Rouge police are still processing the situation, which has apparently ended. Few details have been released.

In a statement Sunday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards called the shooting "unspeakable and unjustified."

Dead Baton Rouge shooter attacked police on his birthday
July 17, 2016, 4:28 PM

BATON ROUGE, La. --
The deceased suspect in the deadly shooting of Baton Rouge law enforcement officers appeared to have attacked police on his 29th birthday, CBS News has learned.

The suspect has been identified as a black male named Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Missouri, sources tell CBS News. He was born on July 17, 1987.

One suspect was killed and two others might still be at large, Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, previously said. However, Louisiana state police said Sunday afternoon there is "no active shooter" in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reported that two other men were picked up across the Mississippi River in Addis and were being questioned by police as "persons of interest."

Three Baton Rouge law enforcement officers were killed and three others wounded Sunday, less than two weeks after a black man was shot and killed by police here in a confrontation that sparked nightly protests across the city that reverberated nationwide.

FUCKING ENOUGH! I have no words. WOW just WOW!

I own 2 homes, so my two Officer friends have shuffled their 2 older teen age kids the hell out of BR. Along with two dogs and a cat. I guess the Police Officers nor their families lives matter.

You see it going on around the country. You say, it's sad, glad it will never happen here. And then it does.

The Baton Rouge cop killer was identified this afternoon as Gavin Eugene Long, 29-years-old.

The Daily Caller has an extensive and comprehensive of his back story

Subsequently, a reporter went to his home in Kansas City Missouri where they were met by an armed man carrying an AK47.

WDSU Local News Reported – Kansas City police said a standoff ensued Sunday at the home of the gunman who shot and killed three law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge. Officials told KMBC-TV a standoff took place at the home of Gavin Long, who was identified as the gunman in the Baton Rouge police shooting. Long, who was killed in Baton Rouge, was a resident of Kansas City.

It’s unclear who was inside the home during the standoff. KMBC, WDSU’s sister station, said reporters knocked on the door of the home and the person who answered was carrying a high-powered rifle.

You are good SP :)

Obviously you are more closely involved than those of us just watching on the news from far away.

Road to recovery: Baton Rouge Deputy Nick Tullier says ‘hello’
By WGNO | June 5, 2017

Image

HOUSTON — It’s been almost a year since East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier was shot along with several other officers in an ambush in Baton Rouge, and this week, his family is celebrating a huge milestone in his long road to recovery.

Nick Tullier’s fiancee, Danielle Mcnicoll, posted a video of Nick speaking the word “hello” from his rehabilitation center in Houston.

“Our miracle today!” Mcnicoll said about the video.

Nick Tullier has undergone countless surgeries and extensive rehabilitation since he was shot the morning of July 17.

Nick Tullier was shot three times – in the stomach, head and upper arm. Doctors told the family that Nick Tullier wasn’t expected to live longer than a day.

I wanted to check on Nick Tullier's progress and this is the latest. I am so happy he looks MUCH better than in the last post. There is more detail information at the Nick Tullier Strong facebook page, kept current by his father who now lives in a trailer house outside Houston.

Hospital where wounded deputy Nick Tullier is recovering in Houston has remained dry amid floods, Tullier's father says
By Andrea Gallo, Bryn Stole| The Advocate | Updated: August 27, 2017

The Houston hospital where wounded East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Deputy Nick Tullier is being treated is dry and Tullier is fine even though the area around the facility has flooded, his father said Sunday.

The Advocate is reporting, Tullier has spent the past several months at TIRR Memorial Hospital in Houston after a gunman ambushed Baton Rouge law enforcement officers last summer and shot and critically injured him. As Tropical Storm Harvey bore down Sunday on Houston and caused widespread flooding, TIRR closed its floodgates and started running pumps, said James Tullier.

Nick Tullier and his fiancee, Danielle McNicoll, are safe inside the hospital, his father said. The hospital building still has power and cable.

Posted right after the July 2016 police killings. Worth the two and a half minutes to watch. I wish more states had police leaders like this.

Hi Molly,
This is actually my Congressman, Capt. Clay Higgins. He was just elected last year.
WE love him. He is nicknamed the Cajun John Wayne.

This video is from a few years back. There was a very large and nasty group here
known as the Gremlins. They were car jackers, murderers, drug and gun runners,
home invaders and anything else you could imagine. Capt. Clay was instrumental
in their capture. They had run amuck terrorizing our community for over a decade.

This video and other videos actually caused Capt. to resign from the force. The ACLU put pressure
on the department on behalf of the family of these vile creatures. The families
were upset about the way Capt. Clay would talk about them . . . . yada yada
yada. The Sheriff was weak willed and didn't have Capt.'s back. Capt. resigned
and ran for Congress.

He is a great gift to us and backs President Trump.

Thank you for posting the video Molly! One of the few politicians we can be
proud of here.
We all love him. It was his first run for office.
US Representative for the 3rd Congressional District.

As you can tell from the video he isn't SCARED!
