Father of Philando Castile wants a portion of settlement
By Associated Press | August 2, 2017, 12:50PM ET

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The father of Philando Castile, a motorist fatally shot by a suburban Minneapolis police officer last summer, wants a portion of the $3 million settlement reached in his son’s death.

Phelix Frazier Sr. is serving a life term in federal prison on drug trafficking charges. The Star Tribune reported that Frazier has asked a judge to give him $500,000, disputing claims that he was absent from his son’s life.
[...]
“It was not just Valerie’s [mom] loss,” he wrote. “On some level I believe I will miss Philando (more) than most because of what we ‘were not’ able to do together.”

Bennett [mom's atty] wrote in an affidavit that Frazier ran a heroin trafficking ring.

“Mr. Frazier is surely upset about what happened to Philando,” Bennett wrote. “But his meager relationship with Philando, hopes of running a successful modular home company, and desire to hire attorneys to help in additional appeals of his sentence do not entitle him to any portion of this judgment — let alone $500,000 — especially in light of what he was convicted of.”

FBI Raids Suspect in Philando Castile Revenge
By Joseph Cox | The Daily Beast | September 11, 2017

After the police officer who killed Philando Castile was acquitted, a hacker swore he’d strike back. Last week, the feds went after the man believed to be that hacker.

Last week the authorities searched the home of a hacker suspected of launching a digital protest against police violence. That’s according to the man raided, the local FBI field office, and a document reviewed by The Daily Beast.

The man says he is being investigated for his potential role in hacking Minnesota government and education websites back in June. At the time of the breach, a hacker going by the moniker ‘Vigilance’ said the move was in response to a not-guilty verdict against police officer Jeronimo Yanez, who faced manslaughter charges for shooting black motorist Philando Castile. Authorities have not yet pressed any charges around the hack, and the raid comes around three months since the intrusion.

This is in addition to the family getting a $3MIL payout (Yanez was acquitted). :doh

Diamond Reynolds to Receive $800K Settlement from St. Anthony, Others
By Ben Rodgers | KSTP.com | November 28, 2017

The city of St. Anthony approved a $675,000 settlement for emotional distress with Diamond Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile, at a meeting Tuesday night.

The city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities will also pay $125,000, bringing the total settlement to $800,000.
The vote was unanimous.

The settlement does not assume guilt on behalf of any of the parties involved, but it does put an end to any legal proceedings regarding the shooting in the future.

"If we don't approve this and we go ahead with litigation, it would just reopen the whole case again and bring heartache to everyone involved," St. Anthony Mayor Jerry Faust said.

St. Anthony City Manager Mark Casey says the $675,000 will come from internal borrowing.

I know Showpoodles, it is unbelievable to me.

I could maybe see a possible award of MUCH less had the officer been found guilty of doing "anything" wrong. But even at that, who doesn't have "emotional stress" just being alive in this day and time? I don't get it. :roll

Castile’s girlfriend gets probation for assaulting a woman
By Associated Press | May 30, 2018

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota judge has sentenced the girlfriend of Philando Castile to a year of probation for assaulting a woman last year.

Jurors acquitted 28-year-old Diamond Reynolds of felony assault but found her guilty of a lesser assault charge in March. The Star Tribune reports a Ramsey County judge also ordered Reynolds to perform community service and complete anger management counseling.

Judge Elena Ostby told Reynolds she hasn’t taken responsibility for her actions. Reynolds declined to make a statement at sentencing.
