FOX 32 NEWS - Chicago investigators are questioning four African-Americans after a Facebook Live video shows a group of people torturing a white mentally disabled man while someone yelled "F*** Trump!" and "F*** white people!"

Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. A young African American woman streamed the video live on Facebook showing at least four people holding the young white man hostage.

"The video is reprehensible," said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Hate crime charges filed against 4 in Facebook Live torture case
Laura Podesta
Updated 1 min ago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Four people were charged Thursday with committing a hate crime, in connection with the apparent torture of an 18-year-old man with special needs that was streamed live on Facebook. They each face several other charges.

Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago; were each charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and residential burglary. Hill was also charged with robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The video shows the victim, who police said has mental disabilities, was forced to drink toilet water, tied up, slashed, beaten and yelled at.

"Bro look. (Screaming). Get to the corner, put your hands against the wall, bro," one of the attackers said.

The victim, who is from northwest suburban Crystal Lake, was reported missing from nearby Streamwood by his parents on Monday. Police said they had not heard from him since Saturday, when they dropped him off at the McDonald's near Schaumburg and Barrington roads.

So... this was in Chicago. Why could these four not have been accidental shooting victims out of the thousands this past year?

Human behavior such as this tends to negate my belief in a benevolent God.

Chicago police describe chronology of alleged hate crime
By AP Top News | January 5, 2017

CHICAGO (AP) — The Latest on the beating of a white man in Chicago that was broadcast live on Facebook (all times local):

4 p.m.

Chicago police say they believe the white victim of an alleged hate crime broadcast live on Facebook was tied up in a corner for "about four or five hours."

Police on Thursday laid out a chronology of events that led to four black suspects facing hate crime and other charges. They say the victim, an 18-year-old suburban man with mental health problems, knew 18-year-old Jordan Hill, one of the alleged attackers, and willingly spent time with him starting on New Year's Eve.

The victim's parents dropped him off at a McDonald's that night and thought he was spending the night with friends.

Police in Streamwood, Illinois, say the parents reported their son missing Monday, and later the parents received text messages from people who claimed to be holding their son captive.

Chicago police say the victim got into "a play fight," which escalated and included racial slurs and references to the victim's mental capacity. The victim was able to escape after a downstairs neighbor threatened to call police and two of the attackers retaliated by kicking in the neighbor's door.

The Chicago 4 are due in court today for their bond hearings but there is not a time anywhere.
I've looked at all the Chicago newspapers, twitter and even watched WGN morning news.
Still looking. Image

The four were each charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to police. Hill also was charged with robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and residential burglary, while both Covingtons were charged with residential burglary, police said.

Police said all four have given statements admitting to their roles in the alleged attack. They're scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Friday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

I hope none of the savages are ever free to walk amongst civilized people ever again.

At least ones defense attorney has the Chicago 4 all on the path to Sainthood.

Someone needs to put a cigarette out on the head of the defense attorney just like the savages did to Justin.

http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2017/A-jud ... cd5a92b698

Defense attorneys portrayed the suspects as hardworking, responsible and religious. Cooper, for example, takes care of his twin brother, who is in a wheelchair. Tanishia Covington has two small children. Her sister attends college and has a job. Hill, the judge was told, goes to church with his grandmother.

All four have experienced brushes with the law, some for serious and violent crimes.

The victim Austin Hilbourn is schizophrenic. That is a little different than being mentally disabled or slow, these savages could have caused this poor kid to have a psychotic break. He went 4 days without his medication.

I haven’t watched the video of the abuse. Won't do it.

I hope all 4 of the savages are incarcerated for the rest of their natural lives.

Suspects accused of torturing mentally disabled Illinois teen, posting video online receive death threats
By AP | New York Daily News | January 28, 2017, 8:40 AM

CHICAGO — Defense attorneys for four people charged in an attack caught on cellphone video of a mentally disabled man said Friday the defendants have received death threats.

Cook County Public Defender Amy Campanelli said after a brief Friday hearing in the case that “sensationalized, pervasive media coverage” threatens to poison the jury pool. Neil Toppel, a public defender for one of the defendants, cited an online post calling for the “public execution” of the defendants and their supporters.

Judge Peggy Chiampas has barred cameras and sketch artists from the court during preliminary hearings for the four defendants.

The four were indicted Friday and their arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 10. Defense attorneys said they would try to have bail reduced for the four. Among the charges the four face are aggravated kidnapping and two counts of committing a hate crime — one because of the victim’s race and the other because of his mental disabilities.

Threats? I am sure there are plenty of people out there that those four 'kids' are damn lucky cannot get their hands on them.

Frankly they are not safe anywhere. Poor them. They are all cowards.

They should have picked on someone that was able to fight back fairly.

EDIT: Well they should NOT have picked anyone at all. Just saying that if they had to... then pick someone like... ME.

Judge bars cameras in Facebook torture case
By Rummana Hussain | Chicago Suntimes | February 26, 2017

A Cook County judge on Thursday said she will not allow cameras at upcoming court hearings for the four people charged in the infamous Facebook Live attack against a schizophrenic man.

Judge Peggy Chiampas cited “safety and security concerns” when issuing her ruling that pertains solely to proceedings in the preliminary hearing process.

Chiampas also barred sketch artists from drawing the defendants in jail garb at the court hearings.
[...]
Assistant public defenders representing Tanishia Covington, her sister Brittany Covington, Jordan Hill and Tesfaye Cooper said cameras in the courtrooms would only sensationalize the matter that resulted in hate-crime charges against the four. Their right to a fair trial would be compromised, they argued, partly because their clients would be shown in jail uniforms.
[...]
Cameras have been allowed at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse as part of a pilot program that started in 2015. Lawyers may object to the cameras and the presiding judge ultimately decides whether cameras will be allowed in court during hearings and at trial.

Judge Questions Using Public Defender In Facebook Live Torture Case
By Mike Krauser | CBS Chicago | March 2, 2017

CHICAGO (CBS) — The judge in the case of four people charged with attacking and kidnapping a Crystal Lake teen with special needs told their public defender on Wednesday to consider whether it would be a conflict to represent all four.

The Cook County public defender’s office is representing Tesfaye Cooper, 18, Jordan Hill, 18, Tanishia Covington, 24, and her sister Brittany Covington, 19. Officials arrested the group in January after they allegedly attacked the 18-year-old victim. The four were charged with a hate crime, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and unlawful restraint. They pleaded not guilty and are being held without bail.

Each defendant told Judge William Hooks that they did not have enough money for private lawyers. Hooks suggested there could be a conflict down the road if they all used the same public attorney, since the four adults may not have participated equally in the alleged torture.

Public Defender Amy Campanelli said her office will file a motion to withdraw if any conflicts exist among her defendants.

Private attorneys to represent 2 charged in Facebook torture case
By Barbara Vitello | Daily Herald | March 13, 2017, 12:40PM

Two of the four people charged with kidnapping and torturing a Crystal Lake teen whose attack was streamed live on Facebook were assigned new lawyers after a judge on Monday allowed two assistant Cook County public defenders to withdraw from the case.

Last month, attorneys from the office of the Cook County Public Defender expressed concern that having the office represent all four defendants could pose a conflict of interest.

Private attorneys Robert Willis and April Preyor were appointed by Cook County Judge William H. Hooks to represent Tesfaye Cooper, 18, and Brittany Covington, 19.
[...]
Hill, Cooper and Brittany Covington appear in court on Friday, March 17. Tanishia Covington next appears in court on April 10.

If convicted of the most serious charges, each defendant faces up to 30 years in prison.

By Barbara Vitello | Daily Herald | April 10, 2017

One of four people charged in January with kidnapping and torturing a Crystal Lake man received a bail reduction.

According to court records, Brittany Covington's bail was reduced from no bail to $500,000, requiring she post 10 percent, or $50,000, to be released from custody. Covington has not done so and remains in custody, according to the Cook County jail website.
