DEVELOPING: At least two people are dead and dozens injured – including up to 10 with amputated limbs – after at least two bombs tore through the finish line of the Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Police Department.

The simultaneous explosions, and reports of two other unexploded devices found near the scene raised suspicions that the blasts, just before 3 p.m., could be part of a terrorist attack. Intelligence officials told The Associated Press two unexploded devices were being dismantled, and reports of a third "controlled" explosion may have been an intentional detonation supervised by authorities. Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the bloody chaos, while some witnesses reported seeing victims with lost limbs.

"Somebody's leg flew by my head," a spectator, who gave his name as John Ross, told the Boston Herald. “I gave my belt to stop the blood.”

Witnesses heard booms that sounded like two claps of thunder near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel, according to multiple local reports.

Reports on Fox.... returning to reports that JFK Library event WAS a fire.... so less likely to be involved with the Marathon Bombs.

There were TWO Marathon bombs less than a minute apart... that much you can see for yourself on video footage.

Confirmed one casualty was an 8 yr old. Argg!

Just heard 2 dead. One an 8 year old boy. Also heard there is a person of interest in custody at the hospital. A Saudi. Anyone heard any more?

Boston Marathon bomb devices were made from pressure cookers filled with sharp metal, nails and ball bearings: report
The devices were similar to improvised explosive devices — IEDs — used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The bombs that turned the finish line of the Boston Marathon into a war zone were made of 6-liter pressure cookers filled with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings, a source said.



Investigators have some of the bomb components but do not yet know how they were set off, a source told the Associated Press.

The bomb that exploded at the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon sent shock waves across the country. Crime scene photos obtained exclusively by FOX 5 Atlanta are the first look at what is left of the first deadly device.

The investigation into the explosion is already well underway, as agents sift through the remaining pieces of the bomb-- hoping to draw a clear picture of how it was built, where it was built, and ultimately, who built it.

The Associated Press has reported that the device was a pressure cooker bomb-- common cookware throughout the world. The crime scene pictures obtained by the FOX 5 I-Team show pieces of a stainless steel pressure cooker with an Underwriters Laboratory number. One picture shows the imprint: Gas and Electric.

Another picture shows what appears to be a black, padded knapsack or duffel bag. Various news outlets have reported that the bomb was carried in a black bag.

Massachusetts General Hospital doctors described removing pellets and headless nails from the bodies of bombing victims. Both doctors and federal agents believe the shrapnel was included to make the bomb deadlier. One of the crime scene picture obtained by the FOX 5 I-Team shows what appear to be ball bearings or small metal pellets.

The FBI had no comment about the crime scene photos.

The FOX 5 I-Team's sources say these and more pictures have been distributed to key investigators involved in the bomb investigation. Now, agents will identify where all the various components were manufactured, and then sold, hoping the trail leads them to the killer or killers.
