Second man arrested: police
Police have just released another statement. They say a second man has been arrested. Here’s their statement in full:

Police have saturated the CBD area following an incident where a car has collided with a number of pedestrians on Flinders Street.
The incident occurred when the vehicle struck a number of pedestrians in front of Flinders Street Station just after 4.30pm.
The driver of the vehicle and a second man have been arrested and are in police custody.
A number of people were treated at the scene for a range of injuries and have been transported to hospital.
A crime scene has been established and all vehicular and pedestrian traffic are advised to avoid the area.

ETA: Sounds intentional even though the headline makes it sound like "an accident".

Another witness, David, told ABC radio:

I heard the engine rev and I heard the first thump, and I turned around ... I just saw it [the vehicle] ploughing through pedestrians as everyone was crossing the road, and then crashing into the tram stop.

ETA2: Picture of incident and two men arrested.

Car rams Melbourne crowd in 'deliberate act'
The car hit pedestrians - some of whom have been seriously injured - outside a busy train station at around 5pm local time.
By SkyNews | 8:09 UK, December 21, 2017

As many as 19 people have been injured after a car deliberately drove into a crowd in central Melbourne, police have said.

Several of those hurt have been critically injured. The area is now in lock-down and police have warned people to stay away.

Pictures from the scene show a white Suzuki SUV crashed at a cable car stop.

Victoria state police say they have arrested the driver of the vehicle after it "collided with a number of pedestrians" in the city centre.

A second man has also been arrested.

Paramedics have taken 12 people to hospital and say that some of those people are seriously hurt.

One young child who has a head injury is said to be in a serious condition, Sky News Australia has reported.

Powers that be say "Not Terrorism"

But.... I will need to be convinced of that :roll

Latest on the investigation
Victoria Police Acting Commissioner Shane Patton and Premier Daniel Andrews earlier held a press conference and revealed significant information about the ongoing investigation, including:

  • Police do not believe the driver was motivated by terrorism. The 32-year-old had mental health issues and was known to police in regards to minor traffic offences and a minor assault in 2010
  • 19 people were injured, four are in a critical condition
  • Police believe the driver intentionally drove into the pedestrians
  • A second man, 25, was detained at the scene but police believe it is unlikely he was involved. The driver was in the car alone
  • An off-duty police officer arrested the driver and was injured during a fight with him. The policeman's actions were described as 'heroic' and deserving of special praise
  • The driver and the off-duty police officer received hospital treatment. The driver has not yet been interviewed by police

Yeah, this is all I can find on him too. :roll

People do all kinds of crazy shit having mental issues, but when you mow people down on the sidewalk, as suggested in an ISIS magazine two years ago, I call him a terrorist WITH mental and drug problems. They need to call it like it is and STOP with justifying the motive.

The other man arrested while filming it all had a bag of knives with him.

Melbourne car crash: Victoria Police to bolster presence as investigators wait to interview injured Flinders Street driver
By ABC News AU | December 21, 2017, 2:30PM ET

[...]
The New Zealand High Commission in Canberra confirmed that one of those injured was a New Zealand citizen.

"The motivations are unknown."

Acting Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said last night there was "no evidence" the incident was related to terror.

However, he said there would be "hundreds more police … out and about" in coming days, with the city preparing to host big-ticket events like Christmas carols and the Boxing Day Test.

"We have no increased threat for any of those events … at this stage we believe and understand this is a quarantined incident," he said.

All roads in Melbourne's CBD were re-opened about 2:00am, and trams are now operating as usual.

Police are expected to provide another update today.

This "Mental issues" excuse is a CROCK!!

The average IQ for Afghanistan 84 (Retarded level).. no doubt MOST people from Afghanistan would qualify as "mentally challenged" in a proper civilized country. They just have to find an Australian bleeding heart Social Worker, and a government welfare scam... and they are set up for life.
And of course if 84 is the average... there are likely many who are less... in sub-human moron category.
Throw in drug use.. and you have a terrorist attack waiting to happen.

THAT is part of the problem... these imbeciles are prone to "radicalization"... as a group.

WHY import them into civilized countries?

Just the very nature of EVERY Terrorist attack shows the perps to be insane... so what?

ALL radicalized Islamic Terrorists have "Mental Issues"
