Several injured in explosions at Turkey's largest airport Multiple injuries confirmed by Turkish officials after two explosions and gunfire reported at Ataturk in Istanbul Turkey’s largest airport, Istanbul Ataturk, was hit by twin explosions on Tuesday evening, according to Turkish officials, who added that several people were injured in the blasts. State-run TRT television said an explosion hit a control point at the international arrival terminal of the airport. A witness told broadcaster CNN Turk that gunfire was also heard from the car park at the airport. Taxis were ferrying wounded people from the airport, the witness told CNN Turk. At least 11 people were killed earlier this month in a car bomb attack in central Istanbul, the latest in a series of terror attacks in Turkey. Vasip Sahin, the governor of Istanbul province told the NTV news channel that 28 people had died, and said that authorities believe three suicide bombers were involved, because there were three separate explosions. Guardian Live Blog https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/ ... rt-updates Death toll rises The Guardian has been told by the office of the Turkish justice minister that the number of confirmed dead has now risen to 31. 147 people have been wounded. Turkey’s state broadcaster TRT is reporting 38 people are dead, including 5 police, and at least 120 are injured. Figures of those killed and injured are notoriously difficult to ascertain in the hours after an attack of this nature. These numbers are likely to change again. |
