Francois Hollande has reaffirmed that *“France is at war”* in a speech before a gathering of the country’s mayors in Paris.

He defended the “temporary restrictions on freedom “but said it was vital they were eventually restored, adding: “France will remain a country of movement.”

And then wait for it……..

He also rejected suggestions of a link between the refugee crisis and Friday’s attacks, announcing that France will accept 30,000 refugees in the next two years.

”Some people have tried to draw a connection between the movement of refugees from the Middle East and the terrorist threat”.

”This link exists because people from Iraq and Syria live in areas controlled by Islamic State and are killed by those who attack us.”

Hollande basically said , “Give us your savages, your barbarians and your terrorists”.

What we know so far - Raid on St-Denis

  • Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the target of the raid was the suspected mastermind of the Paris attacks, Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud.

Two people have been killed
  • A woman, who blew herself up, was killed in the raid. Police sources told BFMTV they had placed a woman under surveillance several days ago, who they suspected might be sheltering Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud. She is reported to be his cousin.
  • Another unidentified man was killed by a grenade

Seven people have been arrested
  • Three men, whose identities are unknown, have been arrested inside the apartment.
  • A man and a woman have been arrested in the “immediate vicinity” of the apartment – the landlord and his female friend.
  • Two more people, found hiding in the rubble were also arrested

How the raid unfolded
  • The apartment that was the focus of the raid is on a small street, rue du Corbillon, about 2km from the Stade de France, one of the targets of Friday’s attacks.
  • Heavy shooting, including automatic gunfire, and explosions began at about 4.30am.
  • The seven-hour raid resulted in the injuries of five police officers and the death of a police dog

Abdeslam brothers were interrogated - then released
Julian Borger

Image

The Belgian prosecutor’s office said that two of the attackers, Brahim and Salah Abdeslam, brothers from the Brussels district of Molenbeek, had been interrogated earlier this year, but had not been detained because they were not seen as a threat.

Brahim, who blew himself up outside a Parisian bar on Friday night, was questioned in February, after Turkish authorities stopped him on suspicion of attempting to go to Syria to fight, and sent him back to Brussels.

“He denied to us that he wanted to go to Syria. When he was interrogated, he just said he had been trying to go on holiday to Turkey,” Eric Van der Sypt, spokesman for the federal prosecutor’s office, told the Guardian.

“There were no signs he was participating in terrorist activities. He was just a radicalised youngster, and there were no reasons to hold him.”

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins press conference

He says three vehicles rented by the Abdelslam brothers by a Belgian company reached the attack sites “virtually in convoy”.(10 minutes apart)

“The black Fiat found in Montreuil was used by three men who shot at the terraces of bars and restaurants as can be seen by studying GPS data of the car,” Molins continues.

“We also found three Kalashnikovs and fingerprints of Abdelslam. We also found five cartridges and a knife.”

Molins says that police found a cellphone in a trash bin behind the Bataclan that had sent the text message “We are off and we’re starting”. Investigators are trying to determine the recipient of the text.

Continuing down the timeline of the investigation, he repeats that police have not yet identified two of the terrorists responsible for Friday’s attacks. He moves on to today’s operation.

At St Denis
Total of 8 people arrested, 7 men one woman.
One person injured in the arm

“The terrorists fired 5,000 rounds,” Molins says of the morning firefight between police and militants in St-Denis.
“The raid managed to arrest three individuals, one wounded in the arm. They’ve been arrested and their identities are being checked. I can’t give you any details about them right now.

“Then there was another explosion by a suicide bomber, and because of the state of the body we haven’t identified this person yet. It leads us to think that the explosion was caused by the woman triggering her explosive vest, but this will have to be checked by forensic examination.”

“I cannot give you details about the identities of suspects yet,” Molins says.

There are two people dead but it will take a bit longer to get the additional details, because the building had to be propped up because it was threatening to collapse.
Police found in the rubble of the attack two men, one injured. They were immediately arrested.

Two other people were arrested outside, including person who let the militants use and a woman next to him. The search carried out in the apartment showed no explosive weapon.

Eight people, including one woman, have been arrested in all, he says.

“Abu Oud is not amongst those arrested. Investigations are underway to identify the dead terrorists and those who were arrested, as well as into anyone who is behind these attacks, whether in France or Syria.”

Summary

  • Molins said he could not yet identify the two dead nor the eight people arrested by police after a firefight in St-Denis, pending a forensic investigation.
  • The prosecutor could say that neither Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud, the suspected organizer, nor Saleh Abdelsalam, one of Friday’s attackers, are among the arrested people, who number seven men and one woman.
  • Terrorists fired more than 5,000 rounds at elite police forces on Wednesday morning, Molins said, repeating that the after five days of investigation police had found “a total war arsenal” of Kalashnikovs, ammunition and explosives.
  • The people arrested during the St-Denis raid include two people found in the rubble, four men arrested in the immediate aftermath, and a man and a woman arrested on the street, one believed to have let the militants use the apartment.
  • Molins said that police were led to the St-Denis apartment thanks to testimony from someone who said that Abu Oud was on French territory, and that they had surveilled the area thoroughly before launching the raid.

Three people claiming to support Isis have stabbed a teacher at a Jewish school in Marseilles, prosecutors there have told Reuters and the AFP.

The history teacher’s life is not in danger, prosecutor Brice Robin said. The agency reports:

Three people on two scooters, one of them wearing an Islamic State t-shirt, approached the teacher in the street, Robin said
Another of the attackers showed a picture on his mobile telephone of Mohamed Merah, a homegrown Islamist militant who killed seven people in a series of attacks in southern France in 2012.
“The three people insulted, threatened and then stabbed their victim in the arm and leg. They were interrupted by the arrival of a car and fled,” Robin added.

The three assailants “shouted antisemitic obscenities” before striking the teacher, police chief Laurent Nunez told the AFP. Nunez said police are searching for the attackers.

Suspected architect of Paris attacks is dead, according to two senior European officials

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2- ... story.html

PARIS — The suspected ringleader of the Paris attacks was killed Wednesday in a massive predawn raid by French police commandos, two senior European officials said, after investigators followed leads that the fugitive militant was holed up north of the French capital and could be plotting another wave of violence.

But two senior European officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, said they received confirmation from the French that Abaaoud was slain in the raid

Let's hope it is true.

EXCLUSIVE: First footage of Paris attacks shows diners diving for cover as jihadist sprays café with bullets... and women he tried to kill at point-blank range but who escaped because his gun jammed

  • The images show the merciless savagery of an Islamic State assassin and the extraordinary bravery of the victims
  • They also show the incredible luck of a young woman who would have died had the terrorist not misfired
  • Police believe her to be the luckiest person to escape with their life during Friday’s psychopathic rampage
  • The Daily Mail can today reveal the horrifying footage with second-by-second commentary from inside the cafe
  • See more of the latest news and updates on the Paris terror attacks

The Daily Mail can reveal that the gunman responsible for the attack on the restaurant, which is not being named for security reasons, is believed to be 26-year-old Belgian born Salah Abdeslam.

The terrorist seen in the footage bears a striking resemblance to Abdeslam, who fled Paris after the attacks and evaded capture after a shocking blunder by police near Franco-Belgian border. He remains at large.

Sources said it was possible a second, as yet unidentified gunman, might have involved in the restaurant attack. He may still be on the run, too.

The pictures come from a chilling collection of CCTV footage, obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail.

Miraculously, none of the diners or staff inside the restaurant died during the attack, which lasted less than a minute, before the gunman is seen climbing into the terrorists’ black Seat getaway car.

A man who had just arrived outside the restaurant to collect a pizza was shot in the back and died in the street.

Police are examining the video in their hunt for clues about the identities of the murder gang and to analyse the increasingly violent methods used by Islamic State to carry out mass attacks on innocent civilians.

What is particularly horrifying is the calmness of one of the Islamic State gunmen seen in the film as he stalks the street looking for victims and quits trying to murder a woman cowering under a table outside after his assault rifle malfunctioned.

Two diners suffered minor bullet wounds but nearby another five people, including the man collecting his Pizza, perished in the gun attack. A further eight individuals in the vicinity were seriously injured.

Opening summary
Claire Phipps

  • The identity of the man who died in the St-Denis raid has not been confirmed, but the Washington Post reports that he is Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud, the target of the Wednesday morning operation and the alleged coordinator of the Paris attacks. The Guardian is not able to confirm this report. Molins said identifying the remains would require forensic tests.
  • A woman who blew herself up inside the apartment was named in reports as Abu Oud’s cousin Hasna Aitboulahcen, a French-Moroccan national known to the intelligence services.
  • Police arrested eight people – seven men and one woman – but confirmed that neither Abu Oud nor Saleh Abdeslam, one of the men who carried out the attacks, were among them.
  • Salah Abdeslam is still at large, but French police have distributed the number plate of a Citroen Xsara they believe he may be driving.
  • One of those arrested was the tenant of the apartment at the heart of the police raid, Jawad Bendaoud, who told journalists he had been asked by a friend to put up “two of his mates for a few days”.
  • French president François Hollande has defended “temporary restrictions on freedom”, as Paris banned public marches planned for the UN’s climate change summit later this month, citing security concerns.
  • Hollande confirmed that France will accept 30,000 refugees in the next two years, ahead of a trip next week to Washington, where he intends to urge Barack Obama to intensify the war against Isis.
  • Hundreds of Belgians, including the brother of Salah Abdeslam and Brahim Abdeslam, one of the suicide bombers who died on Friday, held a candlelight vigil in Brussels to mourn Paris victims.
  • Airstrikes carried out by French jets and other forces have killed at least 33 Islamic State militants in the group’s Raqqa stronghold in Syria over the past three days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said on Wednesday.
  • Telegram, a mobile messaging service used by Islamic State to claim responsibility for the Paris attacks, said it had this week blocked 78 channels used by the group.

The woman who died when her suicide vest detonated was named by sources as as Hasna Aitboulahcen, born in 1989 and a cousin of Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud.

This detailed report from St-Denis says police officers spoke to the woman before the explosion:

The police shouted twice: “Where’s your friend?” Each time she replied, her tone frantic: “It’s not my friend.” A second later there was a dramatic explosion.

One eyewitness, Christian, 20, gave an account to Le Parisien newspaper. He said: “During a 10- or 15-minute lull in the shooting I heard a woman shouting: ‘Help, help, help me!’ The police asked her to identify herself and to show herself. She showed her hands, but she didn’t reveal her face. She withdrew them and then put them up again several times. They shouted at her: ‘Keep your hands in the air!’ They told her: ‘We’re going to shoot.’
“The shooting resumed. The police were firing from the roof of the building opposite. Suddenly there was an enormous explosion [from inside the flat]. It was probably the woman who blew herself up. The windows shattered.”

This video is unreal. You can see the terrorist pointing the gun (so close) directly at the woman laying down. :eek
I didn't realize the cafe was so small. It IS a miracle no one inside was killed.

I don't see how they identify any of these people. I can't tell one from the other looking at the few videos I've seen. Especially identifying this particular shooter as Salah.

Good stuff, Rumpole. :)

I've watched this vid several times today. Even though it looks exactly like him, I am doubting it IS Salah. His two friends picked him up EARLY Saturday morning and drove him back to Belguim. I think he is long gone, not sticking around the Paris area.

But, I would like to hear that he is one of the ones captured last night in the raid.

(Thanks for posting the Diesel photos, Rumpole) :)

Abdelhamid Abaaoud, suspected Paris attacks ringleader, was killed in raid
Thursday 19 November 2015 08.41 EST

Image

The body of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected ringleader of the deadly suicide bombings and shootings that left 129 people dead in Paris last week, has been formally identified.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said in brief statement that Abaaoud, who left for Syria in 2014 but was known to have returned to Europe at least once since, was one of two people killed in a ferocious firefight with police at a terrorist hideout north of Paris on Wednesday.

The mutilated body of the 27-year-old Belgian extremist, linked with several terrorist attacks in Europe, was found in the rubble of the badly damaged apartment in rue du Corbillon, St-Denis, the prosecutor’s office said, and identified from skin samples.
