Quite right Mike.

I was naturally following the news as it broke.. on FOX mainly. They had live reports/reporters at key locations etc.... but I soon found that to get details I had to look elsewhere... the Daily Mail being by far the best source.

I agree. I read The Daily Mail a few times a day. Seems they're not afraid to do some actual reporting..

EXCLUSIVE: Did 'controlling' mother of Boston 'bombers' lead them on the path to radicalization? Uncle claims she allowed hardline cleric to preach to boys at their kitchen table

[*]Accused bombers introduced to hardline Islamic views by their mother, an uncle tells MailOnline
[*]Firebrand cleric was able to preach at the family's kitchen table
[*]Their mother, Zubeidat, described as the 'boss' of the family
[*]'One of the biggest causes is her,' the uncle says of the brothers' beliefs in radical Islam

The two men who allegedly carried out the Boston Marathon bombing were ‘failed’ by their parents, especially their ‘controlling’ mother who encouraged their move towards Islamic radicalization, relatives told MailOnline today.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaeva looked up to mother Zubeidat as an ‘angel’ but, according to one of their uncles, she was the one who allowed them to be introduced to hardline Islamic views.

Ruslan Tsarni claimed that Zubeidat allowed a firebrand cleric into their house to give one-on-one sermons to Tamerlan over the kitchen table during which he claimed he could talk to demons and perform exorcisms.

Family friends also told MailOnline that the boys’ father Anzor never stood up to his wife and revealed that she was the ‘boss’ of their house.

Until now Tamerlan has been blamed for leading his ‘sweet, innocent’ younger brother down the path to radicalism that allegedly ended with them killing three people and injuring 170 at the Boston Marathon last Monday.

MailOnline’s extensive interviews with Ruslan and the boys’ other uncle Alvi paint the clearest picture so far of life in the family home in Cambridge, Massachusetts that should have been the cradle for two intelligent, handsome young men.

Instead Tamerlan is dead at the age of 26 after being shot dead by police as he tried to avoid capture.

Dzhokhar, 19, is fighting for his life in hospital due to injuries sustained during their attempt to flee.

Suspect in marathon bombings is officially charged in the hospital

By Hayley Peterson
PUBLISHED: 17:53 GMT, 22 April 2013 | UPDATED: 18:06 GMT, 22 April 2013

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been formally charged in the Boston Marathon bombings and he will be tried in the U.S. criminal justice system, the officials announced on Monday.

Tsarnaev, 19, was arraigned in his hospital bed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Monday by a magistrate judge, court officials said.

He is specifically charged with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction - namely, an improvised explosive device or IED - against persons and property within the United States resulting in death, and one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death, according to the criminal complaint.

If he is convicted, he faces a penalty of death or imprisonment for life.

'Although our investigation is ongoing, today’s charges bring a successful end to a tragic week for the city of Boston, and for our country,' U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.

Tsarnaev will not be tried as an enemy combatant because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen and under federal law, citizens cannot be tried in military commissions, the White House said Monday.

Boston bomber brothers told hostage car driver they planned to go to New York next

  • The Tsarnaev brothers told driver of SUV that they hijacked on Thursday night that they were planning on going to New York
  • Police believe brothers had planned on carrying out other attacks after finding cache of bombs and weapons after their capture

By Daily Mail Reporter
PUBLISHED: 13:02 GMT, 22 April 2013 | UPDATED: 13:40 GMT, 22 April 2013

The two brothers suspected of planting deadly bombs at the Boston marathon told a man whose car they hijacked that they planned to go to New York, it has emerged.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his younger brother Dzhokhar, 19, seized a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle and held the driver hostage as they sought to flee from police late on Thursday.

They told the driver that they planned to head to New York, a senior official revealed, but it is not clear if they told the man what they intended to do there, the New York Times reported.

The latest detail emerged as police confirmed the brothers likely planned more attacks, and suggests they could have wrought even greater devastation on the U.S. after being undetected by the FBI.

Boston police commissioner, Edward Davis, said on Sunday that police believed they had planned more attacks beyond the bombings at the finish line.

The men were armed with a small arsenal of guns, ammunition and explosives when they faced police on Friday morning.

'We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene - the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had - that they were going to attack other individuals,' Davis told Face the Nation on CBS News.

Authorities said the men made at least five pipe bombs and used four firearms. Among them were two handguns and a BB gun that they are believed to have used in a shootout with police on Friday.

Naturalized Citizen Terrorist Flunked 'Intro to American Politics'
April 20, 2013
By Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) - Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the ethnic Chechen Russian immigrant who conspired with his brother to bomb the Boston Marathon, was naturalized as a U.S. citizen on Sept. 11, 2012, but flunked "Intro to American Politics"--along with six other classes--at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, according to the New York Times.

Despite flunking seven classes, Tsarnaev was reportedly in his sophomore year at the taxpayer-funded university when he and his brother plotted to murder masses of innocent people at the Boston Marathon.

"According to a university transcript reviewed by The New York Times, he was failing many of his classes," the Times reported in a story posted on Friday. "The transcript shows him receiving seven failing grades over three semesters, including F's in Principles of Modern Chemistry, Intro to American Politics and Chemistry and the Environment."

The Boston Globe said on Saturday that both Dzhokhar and his brother were hard workers and had a "keen" intelligence. Dzhokhar, the paper said, was in his sophomore year at the university studying marine biology.

New pictures show dozens of bullet holes in boat where police cornered 'bomber' as it's revealed he was shot in the neck, head, legs and hands

By Hayley Peterson

Damage: Revere Police Chief Joseph Cafarelli, clears the boat moments after the subject was placed into custody

The boat where Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was discovered has likely seen its last sail for some time, according to a newly released photo of the vessel that shows a bloodied, bullet-ridden port side.

The damage has undoubtedly devastated the boat's owner, 66-year-old David Henneberry, whose adoration for the rare 21-foot Seahawk boat is widely known among family and friends.

Tsarnaev, who was pulled from the boat after a two-hour standoff with police, was shot in his head, neck, legs and hands, according to federal authorities.

Henneberry has been deemed a hero by local and national authorities after he inadvertently discovered Tsarnaev Friday evening. The Massachusetts governor's order for residents to stay inside during a manhunt for the suspect had just been lifted and Henneberry stepped outside for a smoke.

As he walked around the backyard of his Watertown, Mass., home with his dog, he noticed something awry: Part of the tarp covering his beloved boat was flapping in the wind.

Stepping closer, he noticed that a strap to the tarp had been cut.

Henneberry used a stepladder to peer inside the boat - and that's when he spotted a pool of blood.

Without uttering a word, Henneberry ran back inside his house and called police.

The authorities arrived within minutes and Henneberry's backyard then became the center of the massive manhunt for the surviving bombing suspect.

During the standoff, Henneberry and his wife fled to the home of his neighbor, George Pizzuto, while officers fired on his beloved boat.

Several hours later, following a brief exchange of fire and some negotiating, Tsarnaev, 19, was taken into custody.

It is unknown whether Tsarnaev sustained all of his injuries Friday night or during the running gun battle with police on Friday morning.

The neck wound is reportedly self-inflicted. Tsarnaev is believed to have put his pistol in his mouth and fire. Instead of passing through his brain, the bullet tore through his throat.

Officers believe he sustained at least one of the leg wounds on Friday morning.

Henneberry has since tried to stay out of the media spotlight. He stayed with relatives over the weekend to avoid reporters swarming outside his home and he declined Watertown officials' invitation to be honored at Saturday’s Boston Bruins hockey game.

But Henneberry's stepson, Robert Duffy, has gladly shared the story of his step-father's courage and quick thinking with a number of television networks and newspapers.

'I heard they put a couple rounds through his boat,' Duffy told The New York Daily News. 'He’s not going to like that.'

'Did you hear about the Boston Marathon explosion? I did that': Chilling words of bomber to carjacking victim who said he was spared because he 'wasn't American'

  • Unidentified victim claims brothers demanded cash and his ATM card
  • Showed him the bullets in their gun so he'd know they were serious
  • Victim escaped when they stopped at a gas station

By Paul Thompson In Boston

Court records reveal the chilling moment police believe the Tsarnaev brothers revealed themselves as the Boston Marathon bombers to a terrified carjacking victim.

The driver, unidentified in court records, told police a man approached and tapped on his passenger-side window. When he rolled down the window, the man reached in, opened the door, and entered the victim's vehicle.

The man pointed a gun at him and said: 'Did you hear about the Boston explosion?' and 'I did that.'

He then removed the magazine from his gun to show the victim the bullets.

'I am serious,' he said.

He then directed him to pick up a second man at another location.

Court records do not specify the identity of the initial carjacker, but after reviewing surveillance video authorities believe the men were Tamerlan and Dzkhoar Tsarnaev,

In his first comments since the night of violence, the driver said he was spared because he 'wasn't American.

The man described Tamerlan and Dzkhoar Tsarnaev as 'brutal and cautious' during the terrifying time he was their hostage.

He said the two spoke to each other in a foreign language and demanded money from him.

After he handed over $45, they asked for his ATM card and password as well.

They then tried to withdraw money from his account.

The driver said he was able to escape from the clutches of the bombers after they became distracted.

He ran to a gas station where he told the night clerk to all police.

Speaking to NBC News the motorist, who did not want to be identified, said the brothers told him they would not kill him because he wasn't American.

The nationality of the driver, who has not been identified, is not known.

A portion of the police report into the incident obtained by the Wall St Journal reads: 'The victim told police he was driven to a Shell Gas Station on Memorial Drive in Watertown. Inside the car, the brothers 'declared to [the victim] that they were the Boston Marathon bombers and would not kill him because he wasn't American.

'When the victim saw an opportunity to flee, he ran to a nearby gas station where he asked the owner to call 911.'

The driver's comments about being spared reinforce investigators views that the attack masterminded by 26 year old Tamerlan was aimed at killing as many American's as possible.

He is believed to have been radicalized over the last two and carried out the attack after becoming disillusioned about his life in America.

Family and friends are convinced he brainwashed his younger brother into taking part in the terror plot.

Prior to the car-jacking the brothers had shot dead a MIT campus police officer Sean Collier as he sat in his patrol car.

The terrified motorist had little choice but to surrender his car to the brothers at gunpoint.

While being held hostage in the vehicle the brothers told him that they planned to go New York.

FBI agents investigating the bombing belive further attacks were planned as they had other pressure cooker bombs and grenades.

The motorist was able to escape into a 24 hour Shell garage on Memorial Drive,Cambridge, where he was able to alert authorities.

The brothers made no attempt to shoot at the fleeing driver.

His cell phone was still in the car and police were able to determine its location by pinging signal to it.

The car was tracked to Watertown where after a fierce gun=battle Tamberland was captured.

He was killed after his younger brother ran over him after aiming the stolen SUV at a small group of officers who were handcuffing the alleged bomber.

Dzhojar later abandoned the police car and fled on foot, taking refuge in the boat where he was later discovered.

Police sources said the driver of the Mercedes knows he is lucky to be alive.

'Considering they were killing people at will, he know he is lucky they did not shoot him,' said the source.

'They had just killed a police officer so had no worries about killing again. He is very lucky.'

'It was a good feeling and no time to be afraid': Cops who cuffed Boston Marathon 'bomber' in boat reveal how they took America's most wanted man into custody

  • SWAT officers from MBTA speak out for the first time during press conference
  • They had approached Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on Friday as he hid in a boat in Watertown, not knowing if he was armed or had rigged the boat to blow

The Boston SWAT team who slapped handcuffs on Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev say that they didn't 'have time to be afraid' as they inched toward his hiding spot on Friday.

The SWAT officers from the MBTA held a press conference on Monday, as they were officially recognized for their efforts in taking down the suspect after an all-day manhunt in Watertown.

The Boston suburb was gripped with fear as the sun went down on Friday, when pops of gunfire and the booms of flash grenades were heard - all focused on a boat parked in a Franklin Street driveway.

The well-trained team then approached the boat, not knowing whether Tsarnaev was armed or had rigged the vessel with the same bombs he allegedly used in the attack at the marathon days prior.

SWAT Officer Jeff Campbell - who pulled Tsarnaev off the boat - noted how the officers had proceeded carefully, saying: 'We had no idea if the boat was rigged with explosives. He could have done anything.'

Officer Campbell told former FBI assistant director John Miller in a CBS interview airing on Tuesday: 'As we're approaching what we call the danger zone, we broke final cover from the house and we’re out in the yard.'

'That’s the danger zone because there’s no cover for us except that ballistic shield.'

Officer Campbell noted that the suspect 'looked weak' and was 'shaky.'

He told Miller: '[Tsarnaev] appeared to be losing consciousness and did have some wounds to his body. You could see the blood on his body.'

Once he was off the boat, Officer Saro Thompson said: 'Officer [Kenny] Tran helped me secure the suspect along with other people from different teams that we do not know the names of.'

Sgt Sean Reynolds, who is also part of the team, told reporters: 'You don't really have time to be afraid.'

Thompson added: 'At a time like that, training kicks in. We don't have emotion going into something like that.'

Thompson added: 'We ended up putting him in cuffs and we turned him over to the medics after we moved him away from the boat.

'I don’t think he had the energy to say anything. Once we got him on the ground, he was compliant and was going in and out of consciousness.'

One of their colleagues, transit police officer Richard H. Donahue, 33, was seriously injured during a shootout with the suspects early on Friday morning.

EXCLUSIVE: Chinese carjack victim spared by Boston bombers only escaped when the killers stopped for Red Bull

  • Man carjacked by Boston bombing suspects says he was able to escape after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev went into a store for Red Bull and chocolate bars
  • The victim, a Chinese man in his early 20s, ran to a gas station nearby, where he was told a cashier that his captors had a bomb and guns

A man taken hostage by the alleged Boston bombers after he was car jacked was able to escape after they stopped to buy cans of Red Bull at a gas station, MailOnline can reveal.

The carjacking victim, whose name has not been revealed, has told authorities that being Chinese almost certainly saved his life, saying that the brothers told him they would not kill him because he was 'not American.'

The victim was able to jump out of the car and flee while Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, looked to buy cans of the energy drink and chocolate bars.

From interviews with the staff at both gas stations and court records, MailOnline has been able to piece together the frantic events of the early hours of last Friday.

The terrifying sequence of events began when Tamerland carjacked a Mercedes SUV car at gun point barely 40 minutes after MIT campus police officer Sean Collier was killed as he sat in his patrol car.

Tamerlan jumped into the passenger seat of the Mercedes and told the driver: 'Did you hear about the Boston explosion... I did that.'

Dzhokhar was caught on a CCTV camera entering an all night garage with his face partially hidden by a grey hooded sweatshirt.

But he left empty handed after his brother Tamerlan hammered on the glass front door of the gas station kiosk saying: 'We've got to go.'

His intervention came after the victim of the car jacking managed to escape and run across to another all night gas station where he pleaded for help.

The victim, who is Chinese and his early 20s, was paralyzed with fear after bursting into the Mobil station where cashier Tarek Ahmed was working.

The terrified victim said: 'Some men are trying to shoot me. They have a bomb and guns.'

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline Egyptian born Ahmed, 44, said the victim was so scared he could barely stand and collapsed on the floor.

Ahmed said that when the man went behind the counter to hide, he knew he was telling the truth.

Ahmed dialed 911 and within minutes the area was flooded with police.

The dramatic escape of the carjacking victim was the beginning of the end for the alleged bombers as they were found by police and involved in a fierce gun battle.

Boston bombers' last stand: Incredible new pictures emerge of the dramatic street shootout with police that left one brother dead

  • Watertown resident took photographs of the dramatic scene unfolding in front of his home in the early hours of Friday
  • Images show Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev taking aim at officers
  • They detonate pressure cooker bomb before Dzhokhar jumps in an SUV
  • As he barrels towards officers, his brother is taken down by police
  • Further images show the damage inflicted on the street by gun battle

Incredible new photographs have revealed the dramatic gun battle which broke out between police and the suspected Boston bombers in a residential street, leaving one brother dead.

The images, taken by a resident of the Watertown street in the early hours of Friday, show the Tsarnaev brothers sheltering behind a vehicle and clearly taking aim at police officers.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, and his brother Tamerlan, 26, are seen running to a car for more supplies before hauling out a pressure cooker bomb they then detonated, filling the street with smoke.

The photographs, taken on the eyewitness' phone from a third-floor bedroom overlooking the harrowing scene, are the first images giving insight into the fraught battle that left one brother dead.

Andrew Kitzenberg, who snapped the photographs as he sought refuge in his home, shared the dramatic images and details on his blog.

'I was in my living room working on my computer when I heard multiple "pops" coming from outside,' he recalled. 'At that point, I had no idea that I was about to become an eye witness to the biggest news story in the country.

'When I looked outside my window, I could clearly see two people (the Tsarnaev brothers) taking cover behind an SUV and engaging in gunfire.'

He ran to the third floor of the home to seek shelter from the gunfire.

'As I ran into my room, overwhelmed by shock, adrenaline, and curiosity, I jumped onto my bed to stay below the windows but also have a clear view at the shooters and photograph the event,' he said.

He described seeing the men jump out of a green sedan, which they returned to for supplies - 'assumingly, more ammunition and explosives'.

In another picture, he highlights a dark object that he identifies as a pressure cooker bomb.

'The use of this explosive created an enormous cloud of smoke that covered the entire street,' he wrote. 'While the street was still cloudy with smoke one of the brothers started running down the street towards the officers, while still engaging them in gunshots.

'As he got closer to the officers, within 10 -15 yards of them he was taken down.'

Kitzenberg added he had been unable to see whether police knocked him to the ground or shot him

His brother then jumped in their car and barreled towards the police cars barricading the end of the street. Authorities said he ran over his brother, who was later pronounced dead.

The images reveal the moment Dzhokhar headed for the police cars - dodging between two.

'The SUV side swiped both cars taking out doors and windows and ultimately broke through the vehicle barricade and continued driving west on Laurel St.,' Kitzenberg wrote on his blog. 'This was the last I saw of the black SUV.'

'My brother made me do it': Boston 'bomber' reveals in scrawled note that older sibling 'wanted to defend Islam from attack' - but that they acted ALONE

  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, has claimed he and his brother were not linked to any Islamic terrorist groups
  • He has also told interrogators that his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, was the ring leader in last Monday's attacks
  • Suspect is scrawling handwritten responses to questions in his hospital bed
  • Was formally charged Monday with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction
  • Judge described Dzhokhar as 'alert, mentally competent and lucid' at hospital court hearing

The surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect has told investigators that his brother orchestrated the attacks because he 'wanted to defend Islam from attack', it emerged today.

But in scrawled notes made from his hospital bed, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, told Guantanamo Bay interrogators that he and his brother were not linked to any Islamic terrorist groups.

According to CNN, Dzhokhar said his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, was the ringleader in the attacks that shook the nation a week ago, but that the pair were working alone.

In preliminary interviews with Dzhokhar, the terror suspect said his brother 'wanted to defend Islam from attack', a source told CNN.

Two U.S. officials said last night the evidence from the bedside interrogation suggests the terror suspects did not have any accomplices, despite previous fears they were part of a 12-man terror 'sleeper cell.'

I take the point... residents in Watertown unlikely to have weapons. (I don't know details of gun laws in Mass. Are guns banned totally?)

However.... even if armed... would a civilian take to joining in and shooting out their window? In the dark and confusion... there could be doubt about who was the "bad guys"? You could attract return fire.

It would be a ballsy call to join in from your bedroom window.

Guess those pictures totally blow Freddy Leatherhead's "police had him in custody, naked and in the back seat of the car before he was killed" theory out the window. Is this guy every right about anything?

The guy who was naked in a patrol car... was a different guy... it was at a different time (later)... it was at a different place... and that guy is still alive.

One of the groups in the 60's UK pop music surge was "Freddie and the dreamers"... may not be so well known in USA?

The name of the group, as well as the title of their best known hit is very appropriate....

If you gotta make a fool of somebody

These are the chilling images of suspected Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as he uses a stolen ATM card to withdraw $800.

The card is believed to belong to a man taken hostage by the alleged terrorists after he was
car-jacked last Thursday during the bombers' desperate but futile plan to escape.

A young man believed to be 19-year-old Dzhokhar approaches the ATM machine at a gas station in Cambridge, Massachusetts, wearing a gray hoodie and with a beige flat cap pulled low.

The images were released today as Dzhokhar told investigators that his brother orchestrated the attacks because he 'wanted to defend Islam from attack'.

In scrawled notes from his hospital bed, the 19-year-old told Guantanamo Bay interrogators that he and his brother were not linked to any Islamic terrorist groups.

According to CNN, Dzhokhar said his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, was the ringleader in the attacks that shook the nation a week ago, but that the pair were working alone.

Such crappy security cameras. Why even bother if you can't ID them from the security video? You can get decent megapixel IP network cameras for fairly reasonable prices these days.

The guy who was naked in a patrol car... was a different guy... it was at a different time (later)... it was at a different place... and that guy is still alive.

Don't know what you know about the naked guy but the older brother aunt says that's her nephew alive and in custody it was at the same time in the same area. There are pics of them side by side my opinion is it's him.

I only know what I have seen in news stories..... and we all know they can be wrong.

Do you have a link to this info and the pic you refer to?

The aunt is nuts. her nephew is the dead #1... that is why we are calling her "the aunt"????

Is the woman claiming he was alive and naked.. at at the same time fleeing from cops and being shot and run over by #2????

It does not seem it would be a cousin? Son of the Uncle we have seen.. he would have mentioned it.

I'd like to see what you are referencing

Who is side by side? in a photo????
