ORLANDO -- Jeff Ashton, the prosecutor best known for his work in the Casey Anthony trial, defeated his former boss, longtime state attorney Lawson Lamar, in the heated race for the head of the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's race.

Lamar and Ashton have both made headlines since the Casey Anthony case and have since become bitter rivals.

And the Casey Anthony connection to this election continued Tuesday night, when George Anthony showed up at Ashton's victory party to congratulate him.

Casey Anthony’s probation almost over

Casey Anthony will officially be a free woman Thursday night at midnight, when her probation ends.

Anthony’s attorney Cheney Mason told In Session correspondent Jean Casarez that he will ask Judge Belvin Perry to sign an order before the end of Anthony’s probation, saying that she has officially satisfied all conditions of her probationary term and that the probation cannot be reinstated.

Mason also says the probation department within the Department of Corrections has determined that Anthony has met all of the conditions and satisfied the requirements of her probation.

I am reading Bozo's book - a gift! He is loving the chance to explain why he did poorly in school, and all of his other weakneses. Really puffing!! Trying hard to do a major clean up!

Must have learned many lessons from Cindy A. She has a PhD. in cleaning up!! Now there's a book she could write! Sub title: From a nurse and former cop. :29

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Casey Anthony's release from the Orange County Jail last year was a public spectacle, to say the least. Casey's attorney, Cheney Mason, tells FOX 35 that his client's release from probation late Thursday won't be quite the "Kodak moment."

In an abundance of caution, Mason says he will go to Chief Judge Belvin Perry first thing Friday morning and ask him to sign an order confirming and declaring that her probation is over.

Asked if Casey was aware that her father went to congratulate Jeff Ashton last week, after his defeating incumbent State Attorney Lawson Lamar, Mason said, "Well of course. She saw it. Can you imagine a father going to Mr. Ashton's victory campaign party and congratulating the guy who tried to kill his daughter? That's one of the sickest things. To say, 'shame on George is not enough.' It's despicable."

Casey Anthony's probation for writing bad checks, which required her to remain in Florida for one year, ends on Thursday at midnight, and RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the notorious 'Tot Mom' recently got a United States passport.

"Casey recently got a United States passport. She wants to be able to leave the country as she pleases and plans to leave Florida immediately. Casey has been counting down the days for this day, and she feels like she has been in jail for this past year because of safety concerns. Casey just wants to get on with her life, and it may just be that doing so in a foreign country is the best thing for her," a source close to the situation tells us.
