Two charged after brawl over Michael Brown merchandise sales in October
36 minutes ago • By Valerie Schremp Hahn

FERGUSON • Two people face felony assault charges after a fight that broke out last October in a Ferguson parking lot over the sale of commemorative Michael Brown shirts.

Latonya R. Ewings, 35, of the 3500 block of Illinois Avenue in St. Louis, and Calvin Carter, 36, of the 2400 block of Petrova Avenue in Jennings, were each charged Tuesday with one count of second-degree assault.

Court documents say Tony Petty was helping Pearlie Gordon sell “Justice for Mike Brown” merchandise under a tent at Red’s BBQ, a restaurant at 9300 West Florissant Avenue, on Oct. 18. Michael Brown Jr. was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer on Aug. 9, 2014, prompting civil unrest here and nationwide.

Gordon is the mother of Michael Brown Sr.’s wife, Calvina. Gordon said at the time that she was selling the shirts with Petty and another man that afternoon when a group of about 20 to 30 people rushed them. One of them was Lesley McSpadden, Michael Brown’s mother, who told Gordon she couldn’t sell the shirts. Gordon replied that McSpadden didn’t have a patent on the name and that she was going to keep selling the items.

Court documents say that Petty identified the defendants as those who punched him. He said they hit him in the head and face with their fists and a stick, and he suffered facial fractures and vision problems. He was taken away from the scene in an ambulance. Ewing was also seen taking T-shirts from the tent, court documents say.

Gordon said she was attacked by several people, including McSpadden. She said she also went to a hospital for her injuries, including loose teeth, a broken finger and bumps on her head.

She was unaware of the charges in the case before being contacted by a reporter Tuesday. “I want everybody charged for it, because it was totally uncalled for,” she said. “I want everybody who was involved charged.”

McSpadden’s attorney said at the time that McSpadden had not assaulted anyone. She has not been charged. Edward Magee, a spokesman for the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney’s office, said Tuesday night that prosecutors had two videos of the incident but these are the only two people the office has been able to charge.

New Ferguson report offers lessons on handling protests

ChicagoTribute.com
September 2, 2015, 8:54PM

The police response to unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, last summer offers lessons in how not to handle mass demonstrations, according to a Justice Department report that warns such problems could happen in other places roiled by mistrust between law enforcement and the community.

The report fleshes out a draft version made public in June, creating a portrait of poor community-police relations, ineffective communication among the more than 50 law enforcement agencies that responded, police orders that infringed on First Amendment rights, and military-style tactics that antagonized demonstrators.

The final version, which is to be released on Thursday, was obtained in advance by The Associated Press.

Mike Brown Family Members Brawling Over Swag

Video reveals fight over “Justice for Mike Brown” shirts, two face assault charges
Posted 6:55 pm, September 2, 2015, by Chris Hayes, Updated at 06:53pm, September 2, 2015

(KTVI) - It happened October 18th, 2014 in the middle of the day.

Three different fights erupted on the parking lot of Reds BBQ at the corner of West Florissant and Canfield. It lasted such a long time that someone driving by had time to record it. It's now resulted in assault charges that identify two of the people you can see in the fray.

When you slow down the video you can see a woman with a stick, now identified in court records as Latonya Ewings. She appears to swing at a man held on the ground. Court documents also identify Calvin Carter pinning down the victim.

I thought the blur was the poor victim's bloody head, but it's "pants down". :Gslap

I think the gray "stick" is a pipe. And the guy stealing "merchandise" as the three fights are going on?

You can't get much classier than this! #Ferguson

Two in Ferguson-related bomb plot sentenced to 7 years in prison

STLToday.com

ST. LOUIS • Two men who met during the Ferguson protests and aspired to blow up a police station, the top St. Louis County prosecutor and the Ferguson police chief were sentenced in federal court here Thursday to seven years in prison.

Olajuwon Ali Davis, 23, and Brandon Orlando Baldwin, 24, pleaded guilty in June to four explosives and gun charges in exchange for the agreed-upon prison term.

In court, Davis said his actions were "reckless, irresponsible and just stupid." He apologized to this family and asked U.S. District Judge Henry Autrey to give him an opportunity "to redeem myself."
[...]
Investigators have previously identified both defendants as members of the St. Louis Chapter of the New Black Panther Party. Baldwin also is known as Brandon Muhammad and Brother Brandon, and Davis also uses the last name Ali and goes by Brother Ali. Baldwin described himself as a field marshal for the party, his plea says. Davis said that he once carried a gun as part of a security detail for the party.

At a a New Black Panther rally last year, Davis was identified as the Missouri chapter’s “minister of law.”

Child, 11, kills home invasion suspect in north St. Louis County

KMOV.com
By Dan Greenwald | Sept 03, 2015, 7:47 PM CDT

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY - An 11-year-old child shot and killed a suspect who tried to break into the child’s home, police said.

Authorities said an 11-year-old child and his 4-year-old sister were home on Hallwood Drive, near Castle Point, when two men attempted to break in. The suspects attempted to get into the home twice, but failed. They made their way inside through the front door on the third attempt around 2:30 p.m.

The 11-year-old picked up a gun and fatally shot a 16-year-old suspect. The second alleged intruder was arrested shortly after the incident. The children's mother purchased the gun for protection. She was not home at the time of the shooting. Police said she is cooperating with authorities.

Ferguson police say they don't have video from protester's arrest

By Stephen Deere | STLToday.com | September 4, 2015

FERGUSON • She navigated her motorized wheelchair as close as possible to the judge, but the elevated platform where he sat lacked a ramp. So Heather De Mian, 45, watched the hearing from several feet away and strained to hear an exchange between her lawyer and the prosecutor.

They were arguing about evidence, specifically the video from a police officer’s body camera recorded during De Mian’s February arrest.

“If we have it, I’m going to get it to you,” Ferguson Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Karr told De Mian’s lawyer last week. “I just don’t know if we have it.”

On Thursday, in response to a records request for video from the body camera worn by the officer who arrested De Mian, the city released a statement from police saying the department has no video from that night.

City officials have declined to explain what may have happened to the recording.

Michael Brown family's wrongful-death suit against Ferguson and ex-officer Darren Wilson will go to trial in October next year

  • Teenager was killed during confrontation with Darren Wilson last August
  • Death led to widespread unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the U.S.
  • Case is against Ferguson, its former police chief and ex-officer Wilson
  • St. Louis County grand jury opted against indicting Wilson last November
  • The U.S. Department of Justice also later cleared Wilson, who resigned

A federal wrongful-death lawsuit brought by Michael Brown's parents over his fatal shooting by a white Ferguson police officer will not go to trial for at least another year.

U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber in St. Louis has scheduled a trial in the case of Michael Brown Sr. and Lesley McSpadden against the city of Ferguson, its former police chief and ex-officer Darren Wilson, who killed Brown, for October 2016.

His name is Lavell Boyd. FB Page https://www.facebook.com/citystylez/

His mother Wanda Merrill@Coach4life4007 is a Peacekeeper for the demonstrators.

There are no news stories with his info as of yet, so I don't know his age.

A Lavell Boyd, age 22, was charged with "Unlawful Use of Weapon" on 9/2/15. (Too young IMO)

There is another Lavell Boyd III, 27, who has a few cases that are mixed in with Lavell Boyd, Jr. 50 -- eight pages of cases.
I can find out more with a DOB and/or address.

According to a Father's Day pic on his Facebook, he has 5 children.

Palestinians have become obsessive “tragedy tourists”
Posted by: Ryan Bellerose

Dear Palestinians,

Lets get a few things straight. You do not get to claim a genocide when your population has exploded. As someone whose family has gone through one, I am telling you to cut that s*** out, it’s offensive and it’s annoying.

You did not “go through what Native Americans went through.” Nobody forced you to speak an alien language, worship God in an alien manner and steal your sacred places. As a matter of fact THAT’S WHAT YOU DID. You stole sacred places, forced indigenous people to speak Arabic and worship god as Muslims. So seriously cut that out too.

You did not in fact have a civil rights struggle like black people in America. Black people in America didn’t blow up school buses or pizzerias filled with school kids in order to achieve equal rights, and they damn sure didn’t talk endlessly about pushing white people into the sea.

You are not persecuted like gay people, for something that is beyond your control. Nobody throws you off buildings because you love someone you shouldn’t. So again, cut that out, it’s getting old, especially when some of us are well aware that your society not only hates gay people but actively persecutes them. You are the guys throwing them from buildings.

You do not get to keep stealing stories. You stole the identity of what was known as ‘Palestinian’. Before World War II the term meant Jews. But that’s OK, it’s a colonialist term, and I am sure that my Jewish friends don’t want it. They prefer to be called Jews, Hebrews, Israelites or Israelis, so you can take your colonialist garbage and get lost.
