Gunman shot by police during Ferguson protest gets 15 years in prison
By Joel Currier | St. Louis Post-Dispatch | August 26, 2017

CLAYTON • A man shot by undercover police in Ferguson after he fired at them during an anniversary protest of Michael Brown's death was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison.

Tyrone Harris, 20, pleaded guilty Friday to four counts of assaulting police, five counts of armed criminal action and one count of shooting at or from a vehicle. St. Louis County Judge Joseph Dueker sentenced Harris to 15 years on all counts as part of a plea agreement between Harris and prosecutors.

Police said that the officers went after Harris in an unmarked car, with warning lights flashing, and that he fired at them. At least one shot hit their vehicle. Police returned fire and pursued him on foot. They shot him, they said, when he turned at them with a 9mm pistol that had been reported stolen in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

IDK how we missed these lovely losers, Rumpole. lol I do remember the incident. I am picturing LaLa as the female that picked them up in the MBMobile. ;) Shock time is not as bad as it sounds. It's just a short time in jail (usually 3 to 6 mos) in combination with probation after release.

St. Louis County man gets probation, 'shock time' for attempted assault on police during Ferguson protest
By Robert Patrick | St. Louis Post-Dispatch | October 17, 2017

CLAYTON • One of three men accused of throwing bricks and a tire iron at two St. Louis County police officers in Dellwood during the Ferguson protests in 2014 was sentenced Friday to 120 days of “shock time” in jail, followed by five years on probation.

Police and prosecutors say that Cedric L. James, 24, was one of three men who threw bricks and a tire iron at St. Louis County police on Nov. 25, 2014, just hours after the announcement that a St. Louis County grand jury had declined to indict a Ferguson police officer for killing Michael Brown. Officers John Wilson and Carson MacInnis were hit but not injured.

After the incident at Chambers Road and Floridale Avenue, the men jumped in a car, but police surrounded it before it could get away, charging documents say. The men jumped out and ran, leaving the driver. They were caught when police let the driver go and followed her until she picked up the three men, documents say.

Korey L. Haulcy, 22, and Andrew L. Brady, 27, have pleaded not guilty. Warrants have been issued for both men for failing to show up in court.

Ferguson protester blames son’s death on lynching
By The Associated Press | October 31, 2018, 7:15PM ET

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a Ferguson protester’s son as a suicide, although a message on social media posted by his mother has sparked assertions that it was a lynching.

Melissa McKinnies, who was active in the St. Louis suburb after the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in 2014, posted the Facebook message, saying “They lynched my baby.”

The message, which Facebook later removed, began trending on social media sites such as Twitter and Reddit, causing people online and in the community to press officials for more answers about the death of 24-year-old Danye Jones. His body was found Oct. 17 near the north St. Louis County home he and his mother shared.

St. Louis County police spokesman Shawn McGuire said Wednesday that Jones’ body was found in a wooded area behind the home. A police report lists “suicide” as the nature of the investigation.

The medical examiner’s determination of the cause of death could take several weeks. Administrator Suzanne McCune said the office doesn’t issue preliminary findings.

The posting showed pictures of McKinnies’ son hanging from what appeared to be a bedsheet. It read, “They lynched my baby.”

A rally in support of Jones is scheduled for Thursday outside the St. Louis County Justice Center in Clayton, Missouri.

Police continue to investigate the deaths of two prominent Ferguson protesters, both of whom were found killed inside of torched vehicles — DeAndre Joshua in November 2014 and Darren Seals in September 2016.

Umar Lee's mother. Two past murders in this family. :eek

Woman, 64, killed at Kirkwood apartment complex
By Erin Heffernan, Denise Hollinshed | St. Louis Post-Dispatch | December 5, 2018

KIRKWOOD -- Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 64-year-old woman at a Kirkwood apartment complex Wednesday morning.

The woman was found dead in the front room of her apartment in the 1200 block of Rockridge Place about 8:30 a.m., police said. The apartment is in the Townhomes at Stonecrest complex near Interstate 44 in the city’s Meacham Park neighborhood.

Police had not named the victim or released any details of the case, but family members identified her as Karen Arnold, a mother of five who was helping raise several grandchildren.

“She was a true character and lived an adventurous life,” said her son Umar Lee, a former St. Louis cabdriver and writer who gained notoriety during the 2014 Ferguson protests. He also launched a brief run for St. Louis mayor.

Arnold’s body was found by her boyfriend in the apartment Wednesday morning, said Lee, who now lives in Texas.

He said Arnold’s death may be connected to the killing of another family member last year in St. Louis.
