I'm reading that South Africa's win today knocked out Japan who beat Samoa today. I don't understand how Japan can be ruled out in Pool B, when SA(1), Scotland(2) and Japan(3) all have another match to play before the quarter finals.

I now understand how the point system plays a huge part in ratings. All three teams have played 3 games each and won 2, but Japan has less points.

At least Japan knows they qualify to be in Japan (2019) ;)

I just saw highlights of those games... and MY TAKE on it is that Japan are in with a chance of qualifying to go to quarter finals. That would be an "upset" and quite amazing. Japan seems to enjoy Rugby but their lack of experience, and general small stature players has made them the brunt of some big defeats.

My assessment is that Scotland could well be defeated by Samoa, and so end with 10 (or 11) points total.

Japan COULD beat USA and end with 12 (or 13) points.

I have to say I would kinda like to see Japan get through... sorry USA :)

Thanks! Read the article this morning.

I looked at it AGAIN sober ;) and there are a lot of IFs.
They are saying exactly what you said.

South Africa and Scotland are favored to win, and even if Japan beats "lowly" USA, they are the losers.

And IF it is "game on" I agree the USA game will be one of the more exciting (for me).

BTW "my guys" are playing Tonga on Friday. Saturday at 8:00AM for you.

Pencil that in. :)

With that Predicted Draw, Wales could be eliminated at Quarter-final with loss to SA, or NZ to play Wales in the Semifinal.. and Wales will be GONE!! :(

but...

If WALES could just beat the Aussies in their pool A game, and end TOP of Poll A... WALES could well beat Scotland, beat France, make it to the Final :cool

(And then be beaten by The Allblacks) :roll

:DN4 "As long as we beat the Aussies..." :DN4

BTW

I do see Wales losing to the AB's if and when the two teams meet, but it would be nice if that was in the FINAL!! :cool

I would LOVE to see Wales beat the AB's in my lifetime (on merit) but it has never happened. Wales have had teams up to that task (eg in the 70's) but for the most part have not been the equal of the AB's and IMO they are not as good as the AB's now.

Well actually I just checked and Wales did beat the AB's in 1953,when I was 1, but I naturally don't remember THAT!!

Quote:
The All Blacks have played 30 matches against Wales, winning 27 of them. The first Test match between the two sides was played in 1905 at Cardiff Arms Park, with Wales winning 3 – 0 when the All Blacks were in Wales as part of their European and North America tour. The loss was said to be controversial wing Bob Deans claimed to have scored a try that would have brought them level. However, Wales were generally considered the better team with the All Blacks playing particularly poorly in the first half of the game. Two more Welsh victories in the next 50 years were balanced by a defeat by the 1924 All Black "Invincibles". Since 1963 New Zealand have won all 25 encounters.

I expected the US to go out fast, yet it seems they are still hanging on. Now that the NRL Premiership has been determined (Congrats North Queensland!) I can focus on the World Cup now.

A side note: So glad that AFL is over for now. That's one game I just do not get.

Hi Hoff

USA have done OK (IMO)

The days of defeats by 100+ points, for "2nd tier" sides are long gone at least. And its because standard of play has lifted. Coaches from major Rugby playing nations (like NZ) have spread the skills... which is a good thing for "Rugby"

USA could still effect the WC in a BIG way... by LOSING to Japan :)
(If Japan are still in contention at that stage)

Japan WERE the easy beats in early WC events.... they were defeated by 100+ points.. so it is GREAT to see that they have stuck with it and this time have a chance of making the Quarterfinals.

And... if BOTH my "wish list" results gel...

Wales would play Japan in Quarter-final

Gnomesayin? :cool

I just came across this Vid I did as part of the Ferguson Safari Park fun....

FERGUSON: Great arrest - Cop shows Rugby Skills

Actually THAT tackle at this year's RWC would probably have earned the tackler a yellow card and a penalty :roll

That WOULD have been seen as a great tackle (in NZ) just a few years ago, but....

The rules have been changed (at the behest of England and others on IRB) such that over the years the game has been "Pussified" :stamp

Wonder where the Japanese find guys big enough to be competitive....
