2015 Rugby World Cup

From Wikepedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Rugby_World_Cup

Quote:
The 2015 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to be the eighth Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial rugby union world championship. The tournament will be hosted by England from 18 September to 31 October 2015.Twickenham Stadium in London will host the final.

England was chosen to host the competition in July 2009, beating rival bids from Italy, Japan and South Africa. The competition's organisers, Rugby World Cup Limited, had recommended England to the International Rugby Board (IRB; now known as World Rugby)

Of the 20 teams competing at the 2015 World Cup, 12 of them qualified by finishing in the top three places in their pools in the 2011 World Cup. The other eight teams qualified through regional competition. Of the 20 countries that competed in the previous World Cup in 2011, there was only one change – Uruguay replaced Russia.

Venues

After England were appointed tournament hosts on 28 July 2009, the proposed stadia for the tournament were revealed. The final venues were confirmed, along with the tournament's schedule, on 2 May 2013.[21] Twelve of the stadia are located in England while the Millennium Stadium is in Wales. In 2011 the IRB approved the use of the Millennium Stadium, despite being outside of the host country, due to its capacity and strategic location. Out of the thirteen venues two are dedicated rugby union grounds (Kingsholm Stadium and Sandy Park); two are national rugby stadiums (Twickenham and the Millennium Stadium); two are multi-purpose (Wembley Stadium and Olympic Stadium) and the remainder are association football grounds.

Proposed venues that did not make the final selection were the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, Coventry's Ricoh Arena, St Mary's Stadium in Southampton, Pride Park Stadium in Derby, Anfield in Liverpool and Bristol's Ashton Gate.In April 2013 Old Trafford was withdrawn from consideration by its owners, Manchester United F.C., citing commitments to hosting rugby league and its Grand Final and concerns about pitch degradation. The RWCL then approached neighbouring Manchester City about leasing their home stadium as a replacement. City agreed to let their stadium be used for the tournament but only for one match due to footballing commitments - down from the original three which were to be played at Old Trafford. The Etihad Stadium, as it is known for football sponsorship purposes, will be called 'Manchester City Stadium' by organisers for the duration of the tournament.

As I commented..POOL A seems to be a "tough" pool.

Image

In fact unfair compared to the others.

It seems logical (and fair) that each pool has 2 teams likely to go through to next level (expected top 8 teams).
I know "upsets" are always possible, but Pool A has THREE teams who are in top 8 on current and historical form
viz
Australia (3rd)
England (4th)
Wales (6th)

ALL deserve to at least take part in quarter finals.

It looks to me like Samoa (11th) has been gifted a passage to quarter finals.
Promoted from 11th (formerly 9th) into the top 8, whereas WALES, 6th (and formerly 6th) has been DEMOTED out of the top 8!!! :59

Who do I contact about this? :doh

#WELSHLIVESMATTER

So... I repeat WE (Wales) gotta beat the English

PS
FIJI are not likely too go to far in the competition. (They traditionally favor "Rugby 7's" game and are WORLD LEADERS)
They can be a HARD physical team to beat on the day. INJURIES are always a worry when playing against Fiji.. so again a TOUGH Pool to get through

Molly ( The cricket groupie) :give

...has found a GREAT link for RWC Info.. charts to follow scores etc

Rugby World Cup 2015 digital wallchart
Fixtures, tables, pools, venues, teams and more. Follow the route to the Twickenham Rugby World Cup final with our in-running digital wallchart

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/ng-int ... -wallchart

Pool stage
The top two teams from each of the four pools go into the quarter-finals. Teams are awarded four points for a win and two for a draw. They earn another point for scoring four or more tries in a match or losing by fewer than seven points. Teams who are equal on points at the end of the stage will be ranked according to their head-to-head result, then by points difference, then by difference in tries scored and conceded. If all those are equal, it's down to points scored and then tries scored.

Points Tables

As pool play progresses the "Points Table" for each pool will become significant.

Not much to see at the moment with only 1 or 2 games played in each pool, but as a sample, here are current standings:

Half-Way Standings (9-29-15)
Image

Standings - End of Pool Play
Image

Only TOP TWO teams progress from each pool

TOP THREE teams qualify for next RWC (Japan 2019)

Quote:
1.1.3 Rankings at the completion of the pool phase

At the completion of the pool phase, the Teams in a pool are ranked one through five based on their cumulative Match points, and identified respectively as winner, runner-up, third, fourth and fifth.

If at the completion of the pool phase two or more Teams are level on Match points, then the following criteria shall be used in the following order until one of the Teams can be determined as the higher ranked:

  • The winner of the Match in which the two tied Teams have played each other shall be the higher ranked;
  • The Team which has the best difference between points scored for and points scored against in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;
  • The Team which has the best difference between tries scored for and tries scored against in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;
  • The Team which has scored most points in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;
  • The Team which has scored most tries in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;

Should the tie be unresolved at the conclusion of steps 1 through 5, the rankings as per the updated Official World Rugby World Rankings on October 12, 2015 will determine the higher ranked Team.

RWC - New Rules for Future RWC Qualification
By Allyn Freeman | 09.25.15

World Rugby has decided that those teams that finish third in each of this year’s four RWC pools will not have to qualify for the next World Cup in Japan 2019.

The reasoning is to reduce the lengthy elimination process, allowing four teams more training time to develop players. It will also cut down significantly on travel time and expenses for these qualifying nations.

In the past, 12-teams automatically advanced based upon their World Rugby rankings on a specific date. The process for pool placement for England 2015 occurred in October 2012, and resulted in much criticism when four of the top ten ranked fifteens (Australia, England, Wales, and Fiji) were slotted in Pool A.

This new pronouncement will have a profound effect on the ongoing RWC, as mid-placed teams seek to qualify at tournament’s end for a confirmed, future Japanese placement.
