Yeah Pakistan "recovered" from a crap start, but.... I'd like to see NZ bat a lot better than the Pakis.... they should STILL aim to get off to a flying start.. maybe reach the target within 40 overs Beware the dreaded Duckworth Lewis.... it could still RAIN!! |

I knew you were going to say they need to "get off to a flying start' Bat like hell is what you usually say. I just want Munro and Williamson to show up, like they've been there before. I see you added the bit about RAIN! NOOOOOO |

Munro doing his bit (and more). Colin Munro(lhb) 36 (26) SR 138.46 Guptill needs to pull finger (he does look to be trying).. he needs 3 or 4 boundaries. Martin Guptill(rhb) 21 (34) SR 61.76 Pakistan 262/8 New Zealand 60/0 * (10.2/50 ov, target 263) (RR 5.8) New Zealand require another 203 runs with 10 wickets and 39.4 overs remaining |

Damn, I blinked and missed Taylor up to bat. Good grief. I'm still upset that bowler Shadab Khan knocked into Munro with his shoulder right before the next toss for a wicket. I don't think players should be able to do that. You could tell it was intentional. And the other bowler, earlier than that was saying something to Munro and gave him the stare when they walked by each other, I bet in Pakistanese and Munro couldn't understand him. |

Well... banter.. also known as "sledging".. is part of the game. But I agree the physical contact is crossing a line. It MAY be looked at if somebody wants to make an issue of it BTW NZ are BEHIND the DL target (127/4 after 23 overs)..... they do still need to pull finger... a bit! NOT that it looks like rain at the moment, but the DL calculation is an indication of which side is ahead. New Zealand 110/4 * (23/50 ov, target 263) |

Thanks, didn't realize it was part of the game. I know I have asked this before but can't remember your explanation. Why do some players put their bat in front of the ball and just let it bounce off or barely hitting it forward, instead of swinging at the ball like Guptill and Munro were doing? Looking at the last five overs, no big shots. fyi - snow tonight is causing our internet to go out often, for a few minutes at a time, so I've missed some of the NZ batting. |

K... Sounds like Trump has fixed Global Warming in Texas The "strokes" batsmen chose to play is the whole point of batting... picking the line of the ball, the spin, bounce etc... Eg...You cant "swing" at a ball that is coming at you dead center.. so you might "dab" it and let it bounce over the wicket keeper... or you might use some fancy footwork and get into a position to swing at it .. if you have time etc. |

How the batsman plays a ball also depends on where the fielders are.... the fielding side puts fielders in all the places that a batsman would naturally hit with a "swing"... so batsmen improvise to hit the ball to places where there are gaps in the field... especially if they are hitting the ball in the air... they need a spot where there is no fielder to catch it ----------------- IF rain halted play right now.... Pakistan win!!! (on DL target) NZ are around 8 runs behind. In a sense NZ have the chance (that they would lament not having if rain did come) to "catch up" with just 2 or 3 boundaries. |
