Weather Forecast

Moderate or heavy rain showers

https://www.worldweatheronline.com/cric ... er/nz.aspx

ETA
Weather is clear and so toss will be done at 10:30 as scheduled. :)

Apparently it's "windy".. and Wellington is known for very strong winds :eek

Pakistan win the toss and decide to bowl.

FYI
Wellington is famous for utilizing "heavy bails". Back in the day, when it got very windy, they had regular wooden bails.. drilled out and filled with lead.
I remember games disrupted by bails falling off in the wind :)
I have also seen the odd occasion around the world, where stumps hit by ball (just) and bails not falling off... so they can't be TOO heavy.

HEAVY BAILS called for. They do not readily fit the top of the fancy stumps :doh

At the moment they are playing with NO BAILS :eek
This could end in tears if a decision depends on "when bails dislodged"

"Caught by the wind"

Wicket

Munroe out.. but he did his bit.. great innings
C Munro c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Hasan Ali 58 (35b 6x4 2x6) SR: 165.71

A SR of a 100 is bare minimum required of ALL batsmen.. if they are not able to achieve that.. it is best they get out and make way for somebody who can. Guptil did ok ish supporting Munro.. but even he needs to get his RR up now.

Taylor! :Q43

New Zealand 96/1 * (15/50 ov)

Author:  Rumpole [ Fri Jan 05, 2018 7:35 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CRICKET: Pakistan in NZ 2018

At the moment...

Both Williamson and Guptil are... Hopeless!!

Kane Williamson(rhb) 24 (36) SR 66.66 (In effect 12 balls wasted)
Martin Guptill(rhb) 30 (56) SR 53.57 (26 balls wasted)

SOMEBODY has to eventually "make up" 38 balls not scored off.. just to get to a "par score" of 6/over (300)
That is ON TOP of scoring their own 6+ per over they have to score an extra 38 runs
They can "fix" this themselves.... but if they go out they put the burden on somebody else... and it gets WORSE he longer they bat at this rate.

And NZ RR last 5 overs is only 2.8

This is CRAP. :doh

Post subject:  Re: CRICKET: Pakistan in NZ 2018

The old 3x25 ov score rule....

END OF OVER:25 NZ: 137/1 ====> 411 final score!!

Nah........ that's NOT RIGHT!! :95

Wicket

See... told ya

MJ Guptill c Shoaib Malik b Fakhar Zaman 48 (72b 4x4 2x6) SR: 66.66 (24 balls not scored off) :doh

And now..... Taylor!! :roll

New Zealand 161/2 * (27.5/50 ov)

FYI
They are putting bails on....
"zinger" bails.. and so either they have added weight somehow or the wind has dropped?

Post subject:  Re: CRICKET: Pakistan in NZ 2018

The 2x30 over score rule...

END OF OVER 30: NZ 175/2 ====> 350 final score.

Possible?

Wickets

Things are looking up... Taylor is OUT!!
And he was only there long enough to WASTE 2 balls :)

LRPL Taylor b Hasan Ali 12 (14b 0x4 0x6) SR: 85.71

Williamson has upped his SR to 90+

Lets hope Latham has "got the memo" :roll

ETA
NOPE!!! Latham gives soft catching practice... out! :doh
The good news is... only there long enough to waste 4 deliveries!!

TWM Latham c Babar Azam b Faheem Ashraf 3 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 42.85

Note
A SR of 100% is a bare minimum contribution. Actually an innings score around 350 is a typical good ODI score these days, and so on average team members need to score
7 runs/over (SR 117%)

Century - Williamson

Well done, but.....

Getting a personal milestone does NOT necessarily help the team cause. In fact.... IF a player is occupying the crease for a large chunk of the innings then there is MORE reason do do so at a high SR... 120% minimum.. higher would be better.

Williamson 103 (106) SR 97.16

SR 97.16% is just NOT good enough!! :cool

Wicket

KS Williamson c Hasan Ali b Rumman Raees 115 (117b 8x4 1x6) SR: 98.29

Simply not good enough. A score of 350 was required... and Williamson rate was less than required to reach 300

New Zealand 288/5 * (47.2/50 ov) RR 6.08

Another wicket
HM Nicholls c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Hasan Ali 50 (43b 4x4 0x6) SR: 116.27

New Zealand 297/5 * (48/50 ov) RR 6.18

And another wicket penultimate delivery
HM Nicholls c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Hasan Ali 50 (43b 4x4 0x6) SR: 116.27

Lets Hope...

NZ batsmen get their act together :roll

Weather is good (for now). It might rain later... all the more reason to get a GOOD start ahead of any DL calculations.

Typical score on a good pitch these days is 300+ And so batsmen MUST score at a SR of 100% (minimum) or at least not occupy the crease at a lower rate...

"Piss or get off the pot"
       :Q43
    Taylor, Latham

Since Pakistan batting first... the same advice applies to them. :)

I always hope for a high scoring game. It would be nice to see Pakistan score 350+ and so set NZ a target (that they make) that forces them to bat well from the outset. I do accept that scoring can be increased towards the end of an innings, but even so the score rate foundation needs to be at least around 5/over early on.
If Pakistan set a low or mediocre target, then there is less chance of NZ batsmen performing at their best from the outset. The game may dribble on for 50 overs. It would be OK if NZ decided to bat like hell anyway and win in less than 40 overs.... but that is not what usually happens.
