With NZ batting first it is up to them to set the scoring level.

These days I expect a ODI to involve scores 300+ (unless there is some problem with the pitch/weather) and so IMHO NZ need to average a run a ball (or more) Individual players NEED to look to achieve a SR of 100% (or more). As discussed last game... any player who scores and gets out below that (eg Taylor) puts a burden on his team mates to "make up" for the lack of scoring.. in effect balls faced and not scored off.

Munro 30 (25), SR 120.0 .... good innings :)

Broom 6 (13), SR 46.15.... not so good. In effect 7 balls faced and not scored off :roll

Now we have Taylor :wall

More NZ wickets have fallen...

Taylor did a little better than last game, but... he is in the team as a STAR batsman.. and so his JOB is to provide batting attack.. perhaps at a better rate than lesser batsmen.. Instead he again did "just enough".... and then went out with SR less than 100%.. and so his batting relies on other players "making up" for him.

Taylor 57 (66), SR 86.36 In effect 9 balls not scored off... that's 1 and a half overs :roll
The team would score just 259 if that was the average SR over all players

I know Taylor is not the worse SR today, but... he does similar in most games and... as I say.. he is the STAR batsman whose JOB is to be leading the batting attack, scoring above the average to help the lesser batsmen.

Latham... even worse... and his wicket keeping is crap. I would not pick Latham (or Taylor)
Latham 20 (34), SR 58.82 (14 balls not scored off)

Looking back at 2x30 over score...

END OF OVER 30: NZ: 169/3

NZ was on track to make 340 or more... Taylor and Latham stuffed that up :doh

Nicolls and Astle both SR around 75%.... they NEED to buck up their ideas... NOW!!.... certainly increase SR before they get out!!

If NZ get 300+ they may well win... because WI are not a GREAT batting side... Time will tell.

I would still like to see NZ do better. They will certainly have to "Buck up their ideas" when they play Australia and England

I was thinking the same thing earlier, about hoping NZ can be competitive against both ENG and AUS. :roll

ETA: Wow, a strong end of the session for NZ! You called it (over 300), R!

IMHO
WI NEED a flying start... lots of runs and no wickets falling.

They need to at least maintain Req RR at 6.5 but really they need to bat above that, and so lower the Req. RR

100 runs in first 10 overs would be nice :)

WI can not afford to carry "passengers" (like Ross Taylor)

DANG!!
WI lose wicket :doh

But... the good news is... no balls wasted... the guy went out with SR>100

KA Hope b Boult 4 (3b 1X4 0X6) SR: 133.33

FWIW
If the team average SR over 50 overs was 133.33% they would score 400 :cool

Yeah... stick a fork in WI

Might be exciting if NZ bowl them all out in less than 30 overs?

Oh I forgot all about hat tricks in cricket.

Only hat trick in the US is three goals in hockey.

I'll remember from now on. ;)

Rain delay, which persists. If the game continues it will be a reduced over (DL) calculation

New Zealand 83/3 * (19/50 ov) RR 4.36

A HOPELESS start by NZ. This is same pitch as last game. A 300+ maybe 350+ run pitch. NZ not only lost 3 wickets early, but were batting at a pathetically low RR

Officials did at least declare an early "lunch/tea break" at 2:00 pm while they are off for rain anyway. Which is now done. so presumably there will only be a short break between innings (10 minutes?)

When play resumes, NZ have Taylor and Latham at the wicket ... both plonkers IMHO
Taylor 32 (46). SR 69.56
Latham 23 (35) SR 65.71

We'll have a resumption in around 20 minutes, at 3.50pm, with 33 overs a side.

So that's 14 overs for New Zealand to do what they can and then there will be a revised DLS score (a slightly lesser target, I'd think because of the wickets they lost).

ETA
NOPE... Rain Back!! :wall
