Day 2 ended with WI 215/8 (64 overs) ....Nz innings was 102.2 overs, so we have had a total of 166.2 overs in 2 days.

Even allowing for about 2 overs lost for an innings break....I would say the game is behind in overs by 21-22 overs?

Play is due to start on DAY 3 half hour early.

Thanks for the math and note that tomorrow will start early.

Watching IND-SL ... lol.

But not for long. Going to watch until Dhoni is out. He just started batting after two wickets. Wish these ODI matches would start earlier on my end. I guess the important ones will later in 2018. :)

You are an asset, Molly. I get to keep my mansplaining skills active :cool

Day 3
Scheduled 98 overs (8 allowed for early start)
I assume they will also try and make up more the end of the day?

As I type.
2 Wickets fall.. WI are toast (all out) 221 (66.5 ov)
NZ lead by 152 runs on the 1st Innings.

Innings break
Reporting 92 overs remaining now scheduled. so 3 were "lost" for innings break.
They could still add more at the end of today. To make up for yesterday's rain (and slow WI over rate on day 1)

IMHO
NZ need to GET ON WITH IT.. not drag things out.
Bat like "Warrior Poets" then declare late today, setting WI a target of say... 400+

NATURALLY... Rigor Richardson does NOT quite agree :roll
He is talking about "personal score" being important.. which is testimony to his career and style of batting. IF he was the opener for NZ in current circumstances.. I am sure he would bat for hours, scoring next to nothing, and simply waste everybody's time... especially the NZ team... and bore the viewing public witless :cool

Thanks for all the info. I am beginning to understand "declaring" ... finally! ;)

OMG what you described about Mark Richardson is SO FUNNY because I know it's true in your mind.
Made me laugh out loud.

They dont call him RIGOR for nothing!! :cool

I lived through watching NZ cricket when he was playing/ boring the cricket viewing public.

WHO KNEW? He is just as friggin annoying as a commentator....
..and NZ public cant escape him.. he "stars" in sports shows and even a reality type show about home renovations... the bastard saturates the NZ airwaves :wall
Just as well I dont watch much TV (outside sport and US news) :cool

ETA
Even if NZ are not of a mind to declare today, or at all... that is OKish with 2 more days after today....they STILL need to get on with it... build up a good lead.. They will have a good lead by early tomorrow anyway.. and be left the task of bowling WI out for a win.

Bear in mind... cricket is a funny old game..... and.... the "Rain" predicted to "not come to much" could actually set in and destroy some playing time... so as always .."Make hay while thye sun shines" because it could piss down with rain!! :cool

It looks to me like WI are ALREADY falling behind in over rate :doh

We'll see but there should be only 60 remaining scheduled at lunch :roll

Jason Holder, WI Capt suspended for this game, as punishment for slow over rate has joined this commentary session.

He commented that "the boys are doing Ok now with over rate"... me thinks I see the problem... the WI players are DELUSIONAL... the over rate now is already crap. If they can't SEE that... they will never fix it :doh

2nd Test, Day 3 - LUNCH

New Zealand 373 & 96/2 * (27 ov)
West Indies 221
Day 3 Session 1: New Zealand lead by 248 runs with 8 wickets remaining

Minimum Ov. Rem 66

IMHO
WI are behind in over rate, by 6 overs in one session...... again!!

Williamson and Nicolls out.

At least the game is progressing. Even if NZ are not inclined to "get on with it" :)

My point is that NOW is not the time that NZ needs batsmen "building" a personal innings (a la Rigor Richardson).
Not panic stations (bash and hope), but even so not a time for a long innings, scoring slowly (and eventually getting out)

NZ already has a "defendable lead"... not enough to declare yet... but would not be the end of the world if they were all out now... and they have 6 more wickets and so can not help but score far more from here.... so why not get on with it :)

If they bat and bat and bat.. and amass an impossible lead for WI to even try and get... WI may well "play safe" from the ouset and so resist NZ's attempts to get them out. Plus, although time is NOT an issue at the moment... it could well be if NZ dribble on all of today and into tomorrow.... and heaven forbid.... rain interrupts!

2nd Test, Day 3 - TEA

New Zealand 373 & 190/5 * (54 ov)
West Indies 221

Day 3 Session 2: New Zealand lead by 342 runs with 5 wickets remaining

39 overs remaining (should be 30) :doh

WI are clearly behind over rate. And extra annoyance with that is that any "overtime" is used up compensating for the crap over rate. We should have been able to make up at least 16 overs lost to rain... instead play will go late just to get in a normal day's overs

3rd Umpire gone NUTS... Agreed that bat did not hit ball.. so LBW was in play.. yet did not look at ball tracking.. so declared batsman not out (LBW)??? as umpire had called. Made no sense...

.... but it's fixed now :roll

De Grandhomme is OUT!!

I noticed no ball tracking and wondered why? It would have shown wickets hit.

I missed de Grandhomme out. Taylor's going for a Century at all costs. Rigor probably suggested it. ;)

If this is "scoring slowly" then please point out a match (in the coming months) where they bat like "Warrior Poets" so I know the difference. ;) They seem to dilly-dally around in any game I've watched. Thanks!

With the way it's going today, do you think NZ will declare?

The woman commentator sounds guyish again today, and a little daft. :roll

GORGEOUS!

Well.. I guess we can let Taylor get a century... then declare.. for sure :cool

Also like to see Blundell score a few... this might be his last test for a while (with Wattling due back)

BTW
The previous RECORD run chase to win a Test in NZ was 348 (by WI)

West Indies 348/5 Eden Park, 1969

NZ lead is beyond that already.

My guess is NZ wont declare while Taylor on way to century.. after that.. maybe last half hour?
They still show 30 overs left in the day... but I have no idea what time for end of day they have agreed to? 6:00, 6:30, 7:00?

The "psychological" milestone of more than 400 lead is a factor now since we are so close.

But they might be all out soon anyway

Doullie is saying "No Declaration"... "Keep the WI out there until LUNCH tomorrow"????

I think Doullie is nuts :cool

The all time, all nations RECORD run chase to win is 418

NZ Lead past 400
New Zealand 373 & 249/7 * (66.3 ov)
West Indies 221
Day 3 Session 3: New Zealand lead by 401 runs with 3 wickets remaining

WE are all WAITING for Ross Taylor 92 (166 balls) :doh

Excluding the silly "Timeless test" in 1939, the highest EVER 4th innings (losing) score is 451.

England 654/5, 1939
New Zealand 451, 2002
South Africa 450/7, 2013

IMHO it is DAFT to strive for more runs. Putting WI in tonight when they are tired is a GREAT idea :cool

SANITY has prevailed... despite what all the commentators thought.. Kane Williams has declared

Rumpole was right :cool

New Zealand 373 & 291/8d * (77.4 ov)
West Indies 221
Day 3: New Zealand lead by 443 runs

BTW
I am keeping track of overs
NZ 1st Ininings 102.2
WI 1st Innings 66.5
NZ 2nd Innings 78
TOTAL 247.1

12 overs scheduled remaining tonight.. but TIME will limit that to 8 overs
So by end of tonight, even playing overtime, morning and night.... only 255.1 overs

There have been 3 innings breaks, so 9 overs "lost"
After 3 days should have bowled 3x90 - 9 overs = 261 :)
