DAY 2 - 2nd Test New Zealand V England

Livescorecard
http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1088 ... z-2017-18/

Start 11:00 AM (5:00 PM Texas Time)

NZ change clocks Sunday 2:00 AM

Day 3 cricket will be different, but not a whole hour because they will start half hour early at 10:30 AM (5:30 PM Texas Time)

------------------------
CENTURY - Bairstow
England 306/8 * (94.5 ov)

--------------
300+ is a respectable 1st Innings Test score. Exactly how good this innings is, will not really be known until the teams reverse roles and the other team have a turn at batting (or bowling) :)

---------------
Four wickets for Boult, to go along with six for Southee

That is a lovely photo, thank you. :89

3rd session ... I really wanted NZ to at least get to 200 by the end of day, but didn't think there was a chance in hell of them doing it. Happy at this point that it will be reached, even though Watling/deGrandhomme partnership was a lot of playing it safe. The 6th wicket is a game changer, imo. Southee seems to being doing well, I hope he continues tomorrow, if he gets through today.

DAY 3 - 2nd Test New Zealand V England

Livescorecard
http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1088 ... z-2017-18/

NZ changed clocks Sunday 2:00 AM.
Texas Time is now (NZ + 7 hours) (but date 1 day behind) :roll

Day 3 cricket will be different, but not a whole hour because they will start half hour early at Sunday 10:30 AM (Saturday 5:30 PM Texas Time)

Hours of play (local time)
10:30 start, Lunch 12.30-13.10, Tea 15:10-15:30, Stumps 17:30

After 2 days play:
Eng innings...... 96.5 overs
Innings break.....2.0 overs
NZ innings ... ...74.5 overs
TOTAL.............174 (aprox)

According to my Math... we have "lost" 6 overs... due to SLOW over rate, compounded by loss of available "overtime" last night due to "bad light". IMO they SHOULD start half hour early today to make that up? (start at 10:00 am rather than new scheduled start time 10:30 am) It seems likely that with clock change they will struggle to get in many overs at the end of scheduled day's play, for next 3 days. "Darkness" will from now on be an hour sooner than it was when "bad light" stopped play at the end of day 2.

ETA
Who listened to me?...... Nobody!
They are scheduled to start 10:30 am

----------------------------------
Initial pending "milestones":
Century Watling 77* (failed)
2nd new ball after 5 more overs
New Zealand all out :roll
-----------------------------------

INNINGS BREAK - 2nd Test New Zealand V England

England 307 (96.5)
New Zealand 278 (93.3 ov)

New Zealand trail by 29 runs on the 1st innings

Sides even, after 1st innings completed (near as dammit)....
So it's all down to which team scores more in a 2nd innings.. with plenty of time remaining

Minimum overs remaining (day 3) 69

NZ did a hell of a lot better than I thought they would do today, with four wickets on the table.

When they finally bat in the 2nd innings, NZ's top batters need to show up and PLAY.
Most the NZ bowlers are now tired from taking one for the team. Good grief. :roll

This is my amateur analysis. :D

England NEED to win this game. A draw is no good... they still lose the series 1-0
So it is down to them to "force the pace". As I always recommend.. they need to get on with scoring some runs... reasonably quickly (without being too stupid) and DECLARE with plenty of time to bowl NZ out. I would say declare by lunch time tomorrow... with a lead of 400+ (maybe 350+).

Cricket teams have a habit of NOT getting on with things :roll
So.... Alternatively... the game may be moved along with English wickets falling.... and so taking the DECLARE option out of their hands :cool
If New Zealand are set a target that they think they can make... they may play more aggressively, and so give England a chance of bowling them out.

----------------
England lead exceeds 100 (47 overs remaining)

England 307 & 72/1 * (22 ov)
New Zealand 278
England lead by 101 runs with 9 wickets remaining
--------------------
Time for England to SCORE at an increased RR (IMO) (current RR 3.3)
Two established batsmen, the ball is 33 overs old (will be replaced in 47 overs). The bowlers/pitch not offering much trouble.
IMO England should be scoring at 4... maybe 5 per over.. at least up to the new ball.

---------------------------------
