Australia were well short of scoring enough.

But hope springs eternal..... they will NEED to bowl England out (and or limit their scoring)

1st wicket In first over :)
JJ Roy c Finch b Starc 2 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Australia opt to Field, let England set a target, and chase.

Worth a CRACK.... since Australia FAILED to set a big enough target last 2 games. :)

Setting aside the obvious reasons to choose to bat or field (many I can think of) ...

I often wonder about the team batting first ... the other players sitting around waiting for hours "to do something". When the entire team finally gets on the field, is their energy still at 100% or fizzled? (I can get very tired from doing nothing.)

BUT the team fielding first, does good on the field and still has the momentum going when they get in to bat?

Or is all this nonsense and it doesn't make a lick of difference?

It can make a BIG difference depending on the state of the wicket, the weather etc
But... generally an ODI pitch is engineered to be "good for batting" throughout the game.
Some teams simply prefer to "chase"... some prefer to "set a target" (and defend it)... it is a team preference.

As far as cricketers waiting... they do it a LOT... they play many international games. They are used to hanging about...

The only thing we need is WICKETS... and maidens......

The TWO things we need are wickets, and Maidens... and low SR by English batters.....

AMONGST the things we need are wickets, maidens, low SR and low RR by England.

The other thing we need is low scoring overs. :)

A GOOD over for Australia is one that goes for only 3 or 4 runs :cool

The other, other thing we need is "dot balls"

Root, whew that is a biggie. Look at his SR among those who are out. Was hoping he would be the next wicket. ;)

Looking good. :Q11

Consider the fact that Australia have bowled 12 "wides" and so have gifted 12 runs AND bowled 2 extra overs for England to score off.. just sayin' :doh

ETA
Not a bad guess at the time, Molly.... but there has been an end-spurt :doh
