Kick Off

Moeen Ali coming out to bat in place of Root.

A left hand batsman.... fodder for Lyon :)

ETA
3 maiden overs in a row. RUNS do not matter to either side. This is a battle to take (or retain) wickets :)

(I think they are WRONG about Eng reviews... they used both yesterday? I guess 1 could have been "umpire's call" thing?? but I would expect that to show in the stats?)

I found a commentator worse (IMO) than Rigor.

Graeme Swann :eek

He is on BT Sport channel and not taking this series loss very well.

;)

ETA: Evidently, he's a bit of controversial commentator going back to November. Aussies don't care for him even under the best circumstances.

Hearing the Barmy Army, went back in the thread to re-read what you said about them. :)

Not heard him commentate... but I seem to recall I didn't like him when he was playing?

Mind you.. I dont like most English players :)

NZ's "Peter Sharp" might have been worse than Rigor? He was from a different (older) era. He got taken off TV.. but carried on as radio commentator. He was LITERALLY.. a school teacher type.... high school teacher who thought he knew all about cricket. He's dead now :)

Interesting point..... 5 runs "hit equipment"

A ball just hit the helmet that the wicket keeper has near him. That is automatic 5 runs .... whether it rolls on to the boundary or not.

It is a rule that if the ball hits fielding teams equipment it's 5 runs. I'd like to see that rule put to the test if fielder loses his hat, or sunglasses etc... and ball hits them :)

Lets hope this game is better than all the CRAP games played in NZ.

A 350+ score would be nice..... players batting with SR above 100% from the start.

OF COURSE I want Australia the "Beat the English"

Game started well... Finch hitting boundaries :)

Weather in Melbourne looks Glorious :)

Thinking about my notion that payers (on average) need to score at SR 100% and so each individual needs to attain that, or at least NOT occupy the crease for a long time at a low rate....

Of course, players may go through periods of not scoring.... and I am not suggesting a "slog" at every ball. What is required is to NOT fall more than a boundary (or 2) behind a run/ball faced. In practice players can tick along scoring ones or twos off most balls... but in practice there will be periods of dot balls and so each player needs to score a boundary.. say every second over that they face most of.

Eg At the moment Finch has fallen behind... but he is only 2 boundaries away from catching up :)

Aaron Finch(rhb) 22 (32) SR 68.75

But.... Finch DOES need to pull finger about NOW!! :cool

I hold my breath when Ali is bowling, and I don't miss one toss when he is batting.

I am enjoying the match so far, the RR is a rollercoaster. I won't get to see much of England batting tonight.

Waiting for a partnership to settle in and start working.

:)

ETA:
Looking at the stats again so far, Cricket is a funny old game, isn't it? ;)

Michael Clarke (who should know better) just said it is OK for Marsh to be batting slow for 30 or 40 balls faced.."he can always catch up later"..... Yeah right... sounds like a plan except.... it often happens that a batsman who is behind in SR then goes OUT and so puts all that "catching up" on the shoulders of later batsmen. And.... whoever ends up doing the "catching up" has to score his own "run a ball" as well as the "catching up" runs.... and the extra runs used to catch up would be much more use if they were in fact BONUS runs on top of the run a ball... setting a large target beyond 300+

Key phrase here "who should know better"...

Even I understand what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. Does he think he's watching a Test match? ;)

Of course I never saw him play, but I like him a lot (as commentator).
