Century - Warner

Warner on 99 was caught.. and ruled out.. initially... but it was a front foot no ball by bowler :)

Next ball Warner got a single to reach his century.

David Warner(lhb) 100 (130). SR 76.92

I'm enjoying this Day 1 but won't make it to the end.

Will watch as long as I can. The rest of the week, no problem.

Thx for the updates, Rumpole.

:)

I was enjoying it more at the start... with Warner off to a flying start.. but it's also good to see it's a bit hard for batsmen and some wickets fall.... advancing the Game.

As day 2 commences... England have an "almost new" ball... they took it late yesterday and bowled 3 overs with it.

In the press there have been criticisms of the pitch.... being too batsman friendly ... being "A road" (in cricket parlance).
As discussed previously.. Test Cricket is ideally a battle between bat and ball.... conditions best for batting on day one, but the pich deteriorating somewhat over 5 days. I would agree that A ROAD that lasts 5 days where it's flat and ideal for batting for the entire 5 days does not make for a good test match... it will likely end in a draw. Any test win requires that one side take 20 wickets.
I would say..
It's too early to judge yet. It did seem that way when Warner looked to score easily, but since then other batsmen have struggled (and 3 wickets did fall). It is early to blame the pitch... as I always say.. you dont KNOW what the exact nature of a pitch is until BOTH sides have had a turn on the same pitch :cool

It could well be that the English bowling attack is CRAP!!
They have not looked like bowling Australia out.. this series... on various pitches :roll

Nobody will blame the pitch if Australian bowlers manage to knock over English wickets with ease :)

I do have a personal "rule of thumb" that the first innings needs to be over well within 2 days. There needs to be at least 1, and ideally 2 sessions, on day 2 where the second team innings is played. So... I would expect Australia to be all out (or declare) by end of the second session today.... at the outside England put in to bat before last hour today.

AND....
Even if the pitch is over "batter friendly"... it is the pitch for this game!!
No point just whinging about it... both teams need to come up with a strategy to win on WHATEVER pitch (and weather) conditions they are given!!

It is notable that Pommy bowler, James Anderson wasn't too impressed with the pitch...

"Whinging Poms" are gonna WHINGE!! :doh

Steve Smith and M. Marsh wickets have both fallen... so I imagine the pitch complaints will be quietly forgotten now?

Australia 278/5 * (100.5 ov)

As you were... NOW the concern is the dryness of the pitch means it might not last 5 days. :doh

Thanks Molly... where would Cricket be without "The Ladies" making cucumber sandwiches for lunch :)

NOTE:
Minimum Ov. Rem 64.0
The Poms are BEHIND by 4 overs in a session... AGAIN!!! :wall
They really should be PUNISHED!!! :59

-----------
Aussie fans no doubt see 5 wickets falling in a session as a bit of a disaster, but.... I am always pleased to see a test match "progressing"... not likely to simply run out of time eventually. 326+ is an OK Innings score... happy to see the Aussie bowlers have a crack at the Poms now... ASAP :)

4th Test Day 2 - Innings Break

Australia 327 (119 ov)

NOTE
Australia have lost last 7 wickets for 83 runs!!
So to call this pitch a batter-friendly "Road" is ridiculous :roll

Rumpole's simple rule of Test cricket.

To win Australia still need to bowl England out.... TWICE

And so... Australia really need to bowl England out this innings before Tea break tomorrow. IMHO

Only 15 minutes in regular play for the day and the minimum overs remaining is 13.0.

They should play longer when they have the chance -- if there is enough light.

That's my tip. ;)

They usually only play half hour overtime... many places they struggle to do even that... bad light.

I has now become STANDARD to play the half hour.... just to catch up after slow over rate... That time is often NEEDED to make up for rain delays.
