Nasser Hussain made the point that an OCCASIONAL low scoring game is OK.

I will go along with that. This game might still be exciting if NZ have the same problems scoring when they bat :)
It does make a change to see a game where bowlers are dominant.. batsmen have to try harder.

However... Nassar suggested that 20% of games would be ok :roll

I would say VERY RARE... maybe 1% of games... and the Groundsman should be FIRED!! :doh
However... until we see NZ bat... we dont KNOW if this pitch is as bad as England are making it look

LOL @ you Rumpole re the groundskeepers! It's grown on me but I still don't like it.

I heard commentator talking about a low score game (didn't know who it was). Glad you explained.

I am REALLY enjoying the commentating for this match (so far) and learning a bit tonight. Not too much arguing like when Rigor is at the mic. :roll

Innings Break - 3rd ODI - New Zealand v England

England 234/10 (50/50 ov) RR 4.68

Target for New Zealand 235
Req RR 4.7

IF NZ get off to a flying start with Munro hitting 6's then it will make a mockery of England's innings. The game should be over in 30 overs with NZ making the target :cool

IF a few quick wickets fall... then this could be an exciting game...for 50 overs... either side could win.

Note to achieve such a low target.. players only require a SR of 78%
But having said that then FAILING to achieve even that is a big sin.

Of course that is the average SR required, but a player failing to achieve it and going out,
AND occupying the crease, puts onus on team mates to make up for that failure to make
the average, as well as make the average themselves.

It seems to me.... this pitch is not the best ever.... but it's NOT as bad as England made it look.

(Guptill is a worry....AGAIN.....but the current two batsmen are doing this easily)

NZ should win this easy... The Poms were malingering when they batted :roll

de Grandhomme and Santner is our ONLY hope now.

The fern in the grass looks much better under the lights.
I kinda like it now. :)

Cricket IS a funny old game.

NZ can pull this out... amazing was a few boundaries would do.

But the pitch must really be bad with the lack of boundaries for these two.

What a shame. I'm still hoping. :)

Psssst. NZ won the toss and elected to field. Game on. :)

IDK how they can figure WASP so early in the match, but it is at 260.

They likely base WASP at this stage on previous games on this ground

I am picking 300+.... because that is what teams SHOULD do these days :cool

A bit of a collapse by England.... or a come-back by New Zealand?
The last over was a bonus for England.... and they do have "the runs in the bank" :)

NZ can of course win by playing properly from the outset (and with a bit of luck) :roll

Lady Luck is a no show.

This is going to be a LONG innings... maybe, unless they get NZ completely out soon.

Luckily.... NZ have no option but to get on with it.... maybe die in the attempt. :)

At the moment... NZ relying on Taylor... so they are stuffed :)

I hear commentators again singing Taylor's praises.... yet from here NZ need an average SR from batsmen of 144.

Taylor as a "STAR" batsman called on to occupy the crease for most of the innings, needs to be close to that... yet he is barely scoring 100%

I guess as usual he will be said to have had a "good innings" even though NZ lose :roll

Well, I was just thinking.

At least NZ aren't relying on Guptill, Monro or skipper Williamson. :doh

Those are the players that lost the match for NZ, NOT Taylor. What IF Taylor gives up the crease? The only batter I see with a chance is Santner, on a good day. Nicholls and de Grandhomme were horrible in game 3.

Yeah... but... Taylor has been there from almost the start.. and NZ now needs 9/over.... and the longer he is there the higher that will be. Occupying the crease does not come with a prize. :)
SOMEBODY now needs to score 9-10 runs per over... It would be good if Taylor did that... otherwise he is leaving that task to a "lesser batsman"

Latham and Taylor are getting on with it now... my issue is that usually this "getting on with it later" ends with player getting out and somebody else having to "make up" the runs.

Taylor has pulled a muscle (maybe his willy-string).... commentators are saying he will miss future games... That is another thing about Taylor.... he seems to OFTEN miss games injured.. and so the team needs to do with out his "talents" :)

Taylor is doing BETTER while injured.... which actually proves my point :roll
He has the talent to hit the ball (and score).. and yet he choses to "play safe" (not get out) mostly.... which is NOT always what is best for the team.

NZ likely winners now. :)
I think I have a solution for the Taylor problem... after he has scored 20 or so... get his batting partner to smash one of his knees.
