Quote:
TUI CRICKET FORECAST: 21 FEB 2018
BLACKCAPS v AUSTRALIA

A small chance of showers, but it will be raining sixes.

Sounds good.... but vested interests always claim weather will be at least OK..ish

I do hope the cricket can manage 20 overs per side without interruption.
T20 cricket is already "a bit of a farce" BIG hitting to please the crowd.. which looks good if it comes off.
If the overs are reduced at all it becomes even more of a farce (can be as few as 5 overs) :roll
--------------
MY report is... hot humid "Tropical" weather. A "Tropical downpour" is predicted for today, but just showers (at most) tomorrow night. The downpour has NOT arrived yet. It would be better if it did, so that there is time for it to play out before tomorrow evening.

Weird. I just looked at your weather and was going to post. You are ALWAYS a step ahead of me. ;)

Looks to me that rain soon then only a 10% chance of rain at match time. I hear ya about, let's get the rain on now so time to dry up. Whew, it's hot and humid there. Woo.

:)

Yeah... glad to hear you are TRYING to keep up, Molly :cool

I expected the rain a bit earlier. Weather bringing back (happy) memories of Singapore. 32 deg C and humid.
About now a smart person in Singapore would be getting his ass to a "coffee shop" stall in a Hawkers Market... with a view to being "rained in" for 2 hours.. with Tiger Beer on hand :)

ETA
Drought has broken (3:00 PM Tuesday)

ETA
Not much of a "downpour"...
Lasted 20 minutes... wouldn't make a Monsoon's asshole :roll

Match Day 1:00 PM
(Kick-off is at 7:00 PM)

Some misty rain... but I guess they will play tonight?

New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Mark Chapman, 6 Colin de Grandhomme, 7 Tim Seifert (wk), 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Ish Sodhi, 11 Trent Boult

Australia (probable): 1 David Warner (capt), 2 D'Arcy Short, 3 Chris Lynn, 4 Glenn Maxwell, 5 Aaron Finch, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Alex Carey (wk), 8 Ashton Agar, 9 Andrew Tye, 10 Kane Richardson, 11 Billy Stanlake

The toss will be important..ish :roll
Usually the decision is based on pitch/maybe weather conditions... whether pitch is likely to get "easier" or harder to bat on, but all things being equal, the decision is often more just a team preference. Some teams prefer setting a target and defending it.... some teams prefer to chase a target, whatever it is.
My own view is that if you bat second ... you remain "in with a chance". Even if the target is HUGE.. it is always getable. As we saw when Australia chased down a WORLD RECORD target to win... at this very ground (Eden Park)and against same opposition. That previous game should be a "clue" :roll

ETA
Weather has been... SUNNY for the past 2 hours :)
I have assigned an operative (wife) to view Eden Park (from train on her way home) and will post an actual report from the Eden Park. :roll

Half an hour ago.... Eden Park under clear blue sky "looked perfect"

I just saw highlights of last game.. and note commentators saying that Guptill had a "great innings"

THAT is simply NOT TRUE!!!

It LOOKS impressive to hit a few 6's and 4's but... Guptill occupied the crease for MOST of the game (16.3 overs) and his SR was 131.91.

That is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.. since the target was 195, RR 9.95 ===> an average player SR of 165.83. The team can not make that average SR.. if one player falls way below it AND occupies almost half of the balls available. :cool

Guptill faced 47 balls and scored 62 He "Needed" to score 78!!!!

New Zealand win the toss and chose to bat

THAT seems nuts to me.... when I saw they won the toss, I assumed they would bowl.??

T20 is a BATTER'S GAME... the team batting second can (usually) still control the game... at least they remain in the "driver's seat"

When you think... NZ TRIED bowling first last time.....AND FAILED!!

Last game v Australia, at same venue, NZ set Australia a HUGE target (246), requiring a new WORLD RECORD to achieve.. and Australia did it!! (easily)
WTF do NZ think they are going to set Australia this time? 300+ :doh

Target for Australia 151
Req RR 7.55

I'd love to see Australia make the runs in about 10 overs... but that's just me :cool

Send the Trans Tasman Trophy to the engraver... "AUSTRALIA 2018" :cool

I waited until you did your wicket thingy to rant. :TF

OK, making fun of NZ is not funny. lol

You know you've played a bad game when Taylor is the lead scorer. :doh

You always want the team to make the target in 10 overs. It NEVER happens. Never. :83

I hope this isn't a blow-out early on.

Remember way back when adding 3 smileys I wanted would shut me up? That no longer works. ;)

Spoiler:
Got my hat-trick smiley ready. :Q24

The reason I say "do it in 10 overs" is that it's T20 and the required score is ONLY 150.

T20 is supposed to be a crowd-pleasing, bashing 6's game :cool

You expect a few overs of 15 runs, maybe 20 runs... especially on a small ground like Eden Park.

Just because NZ played a piss-poor innings, should not mean that Australia do the same :cool

AND..... there is the (outside) chance of Rain... so Australia need to be WELL ahead of any silly DL calculation.

As I type... RAIN!!!!
Seems like a long time if it's same shower that passed where I am? If it is same shower I experienced... it will be a short sharp shower

1st Wicket
DJM Short 50 (30) SR: 166.66
Australia 72/1 * (7.6/20 ov, target 151) RR 9.0 (Req RR 6.58)
---------------------------
2nd Wicket
DA Warner 25 (23) SR: 108.69
Australia78/2 * (9.2/20 ov, target 151) RR 8.35 (Req RR 6.84)
--------------------------
3rd Wicket
AC Agar 2 (5) SR: 40.00
Australia 84/3 * (10.3/20 ov, target 151) RR 8.0 (Req RR 7.05)
---------------------------
MORE TORRENTIAL RAIN - West Auck :doh
Australia well ahead on DL :)
--------------------------
Rain arrived at Eden Park
Australia 121/3 * (14.4/20 ov, target 151) RR 8.25 (Req RR 5.62)
DL Target after 14.4 ov = 95 runs (according to calc link)
----------------------------

CUT THE CRAP... Australia have WON :wall

IT'S OFFICIAL... FINALLY!!

New Zealand 150/9 (20/20 ov)
Australia 121/3 (14.4 ov, target 103)

Australia won by 19 runs (DL method)

IMO they got WRONG target score. 103 would be target for 15.4 overs game.. I guess they are saying that they considered bowling one more over, but they ran out of time? Australia had already past that target anyway? That is nuts, but it's correct outcome.
