9 Required off last over.......

1st ODI - New Zealand v England - RESULT

England 284/8
New Zealand 287/7 (49.2/50 ov, target 285)

New Zealand won by 3 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)

Taylor awarded "Man of The Match" :doh
Cricket watching is a funny old game... IMO Taylor was a liability!!
He did score 100+ runs... but rather than being a "star batsman".. he just scored a run/ball. (Other "Top batsmen" did not do even that)... and so it left "lesser batsmen" to make up for dot balls from the top batsmen.

5 Game ODI series New Zealand 1 v England 0

Shame about Munro :roll
As I have said before.... I give him a pass since his role is to go hard from the outset.. and getting out (sometimes) is "an occupational hazard"

Guptill? Seems to have lost the plot lately... I expect him to bat more like Munro :roll
He might buck his ideas up?

Chapman? No comment
(Baby Taylor) :roll

And now we have Taylor... :doh

With RAIN likely... more reason (IMO) to get on with scoring... and NZ are NOT doing that.

BTW - After 20 overs.... NZ score just 65 runs!!

New Zealand 65/3 * (20/50 ov) RR 3.25

In a T20I game, teams regularly score 165+..... even 250

I KNOW ODI is different... but really WTF are NZ doing?

It's almost as if NZ have taken on Rigor Richardson as batting coach :doh

IDK what to think they are doing.

IMO, it sure isn't in the absence of Williamson.

I can't see where the fielding has been "outstanding" like the commentator said.

It's sorta sad NZ are playing this poorly, getting boring, but I'm still gonna watch to the end.

:)

eta: Makes sense what you say.
I am battling internet problems so it better NOT rain. I can't handle it. ;)
Maybe my guy Santner and de Grandhomme can pull NZ out of this craphole they are in.

The comments about England good fielding I think are more to do with improving just a bit.... but I dont think anybody is suggesting that counts for more than a few runs.

NZ are simply batting HOPELESSLY :)

Yeah... cricket is a funny old game.... somebody for NZ might start hitting a million 6's and or when England bat they will bat like hell and reach the target in 40 overs? :cool

RAIN could still change things... I think any DL calculation will favor England though.

Guess what?

I think England should bat like hell and get the target in 40 overs (RR 5.6) :cool

Better still...... 30 overs!! (RR 7.47)

Yeah, what a shocker! lol

Well... I don't want Eng to make the target. :roll

I hope they play an exciting innings but lose in the end. ;)

By the time they play the last ODI, I will be so sick of these Poms.

Please tell me they won't be playing a Test series. :)

ETA: I can hope and dream. ;) I'm loyal to teams, always have been. I can remember you pulling for Pakistan to beat NZ.

IF it's a funny old game, anything can happen. :)

ETA2:
ROTFL! Oh my gosh, Chapman DOES look like a young Taylor. LOL
Too funny, Rumpole.

ETA:3
Yeah, you are loyal to Australia. I am too except when they play NZ. I wasn't too keen on them during the World Cup, but they have grown on me.
I'm just butthurt at NZ's pathetic playing. LOL
NOW, I'm ready for it to get over ... I don't see NZ having a chance at this point.
:)

IF England don't make the target... it means BOTH teams played a CRAP innings.

I really do hope England entertain with a good batting display... and so do make the target (in 40 overs)

They are playing a Test series.. just 2 Tests... one is a Day/Night at Eden Park.
-----
I am loyal to AUSTRALIA (as far as Cricket goes)

I get frustrated with CRAP play... from people with talent to do better. NZ dont deserve to win after their batting display.
And... once again... Santner "rescued" the rest of NZ team.. without Santner they would have been all out <200
----
Morgan is playing PROPER ODI cricket... I kinow he is Irish... but Morgan is a Welsh name... must be his Welsh ancestry showing :cool

NZ opt to Bowl.

The GOOD news is.... NO ROSS TAYLOR!! :87

(Kane Williamson replaces Taylor)

The pitch...
Same one that was noted previously as LOOKING horrible. Apparently some grass disease has meant patching and filling in. :roll

And today...(to paraphrase Rigor Richardson).... is smells like "Cattle's Business" :slap

The pitch report showed different patches, long, short grass as well as bare patches. How it plays is anybody's guess?

As always I EXPECT a score of 300+ :cool

ETA
On this ONE occasion... I MIGHT lower my expectations... if the pitch shows to play like it smells......cow shit! :eek

IF it is a "bad pitch"... then it will likely get worse (to bat on)

Gotta REPEAT.... Taylor :roll

Commentators all "get it wrong" in their praise of Taylor.. and laments at his absence.

Taylor's century earned him "man of the match" in the 1st ODI... it is GOOD to score a 100 runs for the team, but..... to do it at a slow SR (95) is to the teams detriment. Taylor's innings used up a large share of balls available for NZ to score off. Several people (getting out for a quick 20 or so... but at a SR 150) would have been better. In fact, even WITH Taylor's century NZ would have LOST.. but for Santner's batting spurt at the end. I put it to you that SANTNER deserved man of the match!!! If not for Santner, NZ would have lost the game... then Taylor, even with a century, would NOT have been given MOTM award :cool

I could go on....... but suffice to say.... I am GLAD Taylor is not playing!! :cool

--------------------------
BTW...
I DO NOT like the daft fern motif mowed into the ground!!!! :doh

It is just an annoying distraction!! :stamp

It's a continuation of field patterning... which was Ok... but a step too far :cool
