I do see your point now.

I did my own calculation. I can't see NZ getting more than 164, if that. That's my final prediction.

RAIN!!! :wall

-----------------------------

Wow, I'm devastated. This is pitiful. lol

You know it's a bad match when you are counting on Southee to give the crowd something to cheer about.

GAME OVER

NZ all out!!
At least we didn't need the DL calculation :roll (NZ would have lost if rain stopped play at any stage)

South Africa 185/6 (20/20 ov)
New Zealand 107/10 (14.5/20 ov)

South Africa won by 78 runs

Tahir got a 5-for (5/24)

It's currently raining in Hamilton and has been for the majority of the morning.

The rain has gotten heavier. We won't be starting on time. :wall

Just when you think things couldn't be worse.... The cricket commentary opens with Rigor Richardson :wall

The weather looks dreary.... the heavy covers are still on.. and it's STILL raining (lightly)

EVEN IF they get covers off.. AND rain stays away.. it will take "Two to three hours" before play starts :wall

Ferget Abart it! :roll

ETA
Covers are coming off (but for how long?)

Thanks for the update, sort of. ;)
It was 80 here today. Cricket needs to move to Texas during our winters, and in the meantime, build some stadiums with tops. :63

Cricket traditionally is played outdoors.. the overhead conditions etc are all part of it. Sadly rain too.

T-20 could be played in covered stadiums... but it would need huge investment.

Also... as you have seen, cricket is most often played on small "family friendly" grounds. It simply does NOT attract huge crowds for say a 3 hour event. People come and go.. sit on grassed banks etc for Test cricket. A big stadium would be largely empty most of the time, and It would limit cricket to one or two cities, not the provincial grounds.

Yeah, you and your logic always shoots down my fantasy ideas. ;) Playing Cricket on AstroTurf, not good. lol

From the little I've watched, it looks like lying out in the sun with a cool drink and big flag is a major part of the fun. Either that or the covered clubhouses where there's a waiter and appetizers at the bar. I'm not picky. :)

Yeah... I have not watched much cricket at the ground... but I know it is more of a day out and a picnic.. not like going to say a Rugby game.

Outside RAIN stuffing things up totally. for the game itself.. an outdoor pitch subject to the elements is actually and important part of it.

The way the pitch is prepared, how they roll it, cut the grass. How they prepare the outfield.. how those things change over a day.. and certainly over 5 days is all part of the game.

It is annoying when rain causes loss of play time, but that too can be part of the strategy of how to play the game.

NAPIER was an exception.. where it was NOT still raining but the field never dried out enough to start play. I heard Napier have LOST their right to host International games... I guess they will need to invest in drainage to get another chance :cool

ETA
Just heard Rigor Richardson say we have to get game started by 7:15 (4 hours away) (will be a 20 over game I assume)..

If they get out earlier they can squeeze in more overs

Great news! This is much better than starting at 7:00. :Q25

I have figured out with 34 ov at which point to figure the ending score.
But I don't want to upstage you, so I'll let you tell me what the commentators say. I often miss details like that if I am distracted.

;)

So... what is your rule, Molly?

TOSS
South Africa win the toss and expectedly choose to bowl

Hard to predict anything before play starts, but.....

Off the top of my head I think RR 7 - 8 runs/ov needed in setting a target?

240 - 270

And perhaps get some idea by 2x 15 ov score

What you say. ;)

I had not even thought about RR or a prediction/target.
The only thing I thought about was what over to double the score. I was thinking 14 (40% into the game) but I like 15.

For the sake of an exciting game... I hope NZ set a good target.

The SA side has a GREAT batting line-up, but to see them at their best they need to be set target that will take some getting :)

At the moment .. NZ are looking a bit limp... like they have been coached by Rigor Richardson.

LOL! at your last sentence. :)

Yeah, Latham needs to act like he's been there before. :roll

At least no ducks (yet) to start it off. Agree, high target for SA and need good bowling from the get-go for early wickets.
