Boring so far. :doh

I don't think I've ever said this for a NZ match. I'm still optimistic though.

Yeah a bit boring... no wickets... no runs :roll

NZ playing the old... score at 2/over game... and "catch up later" :doh

As I have said before... you cant properly assess the game until you have seen how the other team bat on same pitch..... but... I'll "go out on a limb" and say NZ batting is CRAP!!!

And a wicket falls as I type :wall

-----------
I just spotted a WASP 273.
That is possible, but if NZ keep playing as they are... even that will be unlikely.
-------------
Even commentators seem to suffer from daft thinking. Batsmen are going out with SR around 50.
I concede that they can "make up for it later"... if they dont get out.... but that rarely happens.
SOMEBODY has to strike at over 100% AND.. occupy the crease for a few overs.... or else NZ will struggle to reach 200
-----------
The problem with "catching up later" is that the slow scoring "uses up" available overs. NZ already need 6/over (SR 100%) from this point to reach 250.. which is a poor score anyway. They already need to score 7 - 8 per over (SR 130) to post a competitive total. If Guptill remains he will need a huge SR to get his AVERAGE up to 130.

----------
Commentators lamenting the fact that de Grandhomme has got out (3 times)... caught while going for the "big hit".
(They are also mentioning what an "asset" Taylor is) :doh
They miss the point in both player cases.
De Grandhomme's "style" is to be a big hitter...he bats at No. 7...his roll is to bash some quick runs after the 6 "star batsmen" above him have set a foundation...... he has won games for NZ by doing that. It simply does not always work...
de Grandhomme would be criticized if he just batted "slow but sure". He does not have that luxury because the top batting order has FAILED to score.. AND those batsmen have used up too many overs.. leaving de Grandhomme with a more difficult task.

Taylor..... :Q43

NZ need to be given a demonstration of how to play ODI properly. They have forgotten :cool

So we are waiting on England to make the target in ... 38 overs?

This is my guess. :roll

You probably have a way of figuring it out exactly. ;)

I'm listening to Safari Live from this morning while watching Cricket on mute.

ETA: Okay, I didn't see it because you added it. I forget to go back and look for additional comments. :roll

I posted my "wish" for England to do it in 25 overs :)

I'll settle for 30 overs (RR 7.5)

England are NOT going nuts...but both batsmen are managing SR 100.

THAT is what you need to do (at a minimum) at the start of a ODI innings. Occupying the crease at that rate, even when a player gets out eventually, sets up a foundation for subsequent batsmen.

Rather than "catch up later" ...... it needs to be score at an OK rate FROM THE OUTSET.. and then it can be a push to INCREASE the rate later. :cool

ETA
Just like Bairstow is doing now SR 140
----------------
Hales needs to get on with it now... SR 74 :doh

------------------------
Commentators opining that NZ are "chokers".. as in they lose when its a game deciding a series/tournament.

It may have worked out that way... but this series NZ were outplayed by England in most of the games... NZ were LUCKY to have scraped through with 2 wins and still be in with a chance today.

NZ do not DESERVE to win Cricket games the way they are playing :cool

England won in just over 30 overs... that is a fitting result after NZ innings was hopeless.

LIVE... weather update from our man on the scene in Auckland.

Weather Ok... ish :cool

It was SUNNY this morning. It is cloudy now, but no rain and I am sure game will the start on time in an hour!!

The bad news is..... I would guess it will rain this evening... and be crap weather in subsequent days!!

--------------------
New Zealand have won the toss and they will bowl

Weather... SUNNY again.. clouds have passed.... as the live broadcast pictures show.
Still... my local "gut feeling" is rain is on the way.... trust me, I wouldn't put ya crook, mate! :roll

------------
I THINK the game is headed for a washed out DRAW....
But FWIW... I would have batted... great conditions right now... get on and score some runs.

--------------
With time already likely lost with rain... all the more reason to PENALIZE slow over rates :stamp

I saw a tweet earlier that the white ferns' game abandoned because of rain.
But that was in New Plymouth. I am hoping they can get this day 1 complete without rain.

I guess the Poms better start a rain-dance?
------
NZ opting to bowl first... worked out OK :roll

-----------
NZ hold the "record" lowest Test innings score 26. :doh

They would love to lose that :roll
(Especially to England.. who bowled them out for 26)

-----------------
Commentator Mike Atherton would probably "like" England out for less than 46.
That is England's (2nd) lowest test innings.. and Atherton was Captain :)
(The actual England lowest innings is 45 in 1887)

-------------
It's not even like T20 (or baseball).. because they are going out AND not scoring.
9 wickets down in 15th over is a bit like T20 wickets falling... but for 127 runs, not 27 :roll

-----------------

I know, right?

Thought for a minute I am watching a T20, but white sweaters and pink ball gave it away.

Uh oh ... getting worse. :roll
----------------
I'm trying to explain to my husband... the difference in Test batting (like versus T20), and how ODD this is to be out so quickly, and he says "oh like baseball". :doh

It's kinda like when he stands behind me watching cricket and sees a boundary/6, he goes "another homerun".

He knows better and doesn't get to stand behind me too often. ;)
----------------
Interesting. Too bad NZ couldn't lose that record, so close.
That last catch was amazing.
